They should have let Sandusky do the fireworks - they would have went on for years and years and no one would have ever said anything.

I live within viewing distance of Tokyo Disneyland's fireworks show.

It is pretty impressive.

But we close the curtains now because it's just a bother. These things lose their sheen after the first 30 times.

I know what happened..... someone pressed the 'turbo' button on the computer running the show

We were sitting on the living room and heard about 20 seconds of boom and crackle. My gf looks at me and says "Was that it?" I said "If it was there is going to be a lot of pissed off people." Sure enough about 20 minutes later on the news a bunch off pissed off people.

So the U-T has become a pay site now? I guess it's back to hearsay and gossip for my news.

Oh, yeah, it was that before.

Surprised I didn't see a single person on the news say "well, it wasn't what we wanted, but it was pretty farking awesome." Too many people being dramatic and whining about how their fourth of July was ruined. I'd pay money to have been close to that show when it went off.

OMG, I haven't thought about that show in 20 years. I wonder if it's on youtube somehwere.

I wonder what party, in a case like this, has to eat the cost of the fail? Does the city still have to pay (maybe a reduced rate) for the show? These displays are expensive (this one was probably in the area of 50 grand or more). What does the contract state?

The fireworks company is still out the cost of all the fireworks and manpower, just as if the full 20 minute show had taken place. But the city never got a "fireworks show" as promised.

I bet the fireworks company has to eat the whole thing. Aren't there farkers with experience in the industry? Do tell!

Would you rather see 30 minutes worth of fireworks that you've seen dozens of times before, or twenty seconds where all hell breaks loose? I'd say last night's show is the most memorable one that San Diego has ever had.

Absolutely true. And if I had been watching - I'd have no problem with it. It seems pretty unique and badass actually. But legalities are legalities, and someone at the city will be looking for a backdoor on this. I guarantee a lawyer is studying the contract this morning to see what options they have.

Those firework controller systems need an "UNDO" button.

The swelling crowd ,moving restlessly against the bay in fervent anticipation, caused premature detonation. It is not an uncommon problem.

the undo button is easy to implement once we figure out this whole time/space conundrum. and master time travel

It'll likely be the insurance company for the fireworks company. They'll have professional liability insurance which will reimburse the city for their costs.

looks like 15 minutes of fireworks launched in about 15 secs

It's going to take a math wiz to figure out how to that happened.
