Producers, bypassed the need to negotiate for his songs ...

But they went ahead and got Beatles songs? WTF?

Had a 45 of a young jimi as "Jimmy James and the blue flames" doing a crazy fast version of "fire". Came as an insert with "the essential Jimi Hendrix" double LP. Anyone recall this?

My favorite Jimi Hendrix album is one recorded in a NYC Club, that was released in holland. Jim Morrison shows up drunk as shiat and him and Jimi play some of the RAUNCHIEST blues songs ever. Hilarious

It is like in the Monkees movie. There was a scene where Hendrix is opening for them. They are watching his show and want to meet him after he is done, but he blows them off. During the scene where they were watching him play he wasn't playing a Hendrix song, he was playing "Hendrix type" music because getting permission to use one of his songs would have cost too much.

Ahhh, Morrison's lament, where he screams "fark her in the ass" and then jimi asking an engineer if the tape is rolling. Classic, but not my favorite Hendrix music by a damn sight.

I just love the gratuitous vulgarity. I also love my single, one-sided 33 1/3 of Gloria.

The album is "Woke up This Morning and Found Myself Dead" and was recorded at the Scene Club

Producers, bypassed the need to negotiate for his songs by focusing the movie on his pre-fame years; the soundtrack will instead feature star Andre Benjamin's new recording of classic songs by the Beatles, Muddy Waters and others.

How much baseball did you see being played in Moneyball?

This will be a MUCH better movie without his music.

There's a lincoln movie coming out in december that stars daniel day-lewis as lincoln and is directed by speilberg. I'm sure it will be awesome and I'm sure it will not feature the gettysburg adress. It only focuses on the last few months of lincolns life/presidency and is based on doris kearns goodwins book "team of rivals"

Debbie Does Dallas would have been better without Debbie doing Dallas.

Behind the Green Door would have been better without ever seeing what was behind the green door.

Sylvia Plath's daughter wouldn't let the makers of the Paltrow movie in 2003 about the poet use any of the actual poetry. She thought they were exploiting her mom's death and said so.

He himself said that he couldn't sing but there was no one else around to do it. And of course the lyrics to songs like "Purple Haze" were bullshiat but there's no denying his talent as a guitarist.

I love the axis album, and his later soul stuff with band of gypsys was good.
To each their own I guess. For example, I really dislike Rush, but they seem to be quite popular with the nerds on fark.

That Hendrix movie on Showtime some years back wasn't really that bad. The guy that played Hendrix was good. They only used the covers Hendrix did.

I'm not interested in the Janie Hendrix approved Spike Lee or whoever directed Jimi Hendrix Story starring 50 Cent or whoever as Hendrix anyway. I'll just watch the real thing on my dvds and bootlegs.

Considering Jimi's family's history of allowing his music in nearly every movie and TV show that had a scene taking place in the late 60s, I don't think they're too worried about exploiting him.

It's still a horrible idea.

2012-07-05 12:58:56 AM
It's worse than making a movie about Lincoln and leaving out the Gettysburg Address. The speech was basically a footnote, if he hadn't made it nothing about him or his legacy would be any different. Jimi Hendrix was a musician. This is like if you made a movie about Lincoln and you didn't mention politics or the Civil War. What makes them think anyone will bother to see this movie?
