We need a bucket of warm water and the key to the door of the office where Ted Kennedy is sleeping.

Damn those filters? and yes, I have the boobies, two, as a matter of fact!

"These people deserve an up or down vote on the Senate floor," Bush told reporters. "And yet a few senators are playing politics and it's wrong and it's shameful. ... I will stand with them to the bitter end."

Yeah, come on, meanieheads, just give Georgie what he wants already! Why do you hate America so much?

Damn Democrats! To quote the world famous LilyConnor:
"You people are mean. I hope someday someone shoots at your loved ones on a regular basis."

"And yet a few senators are playing politics and it's wrong and it's shameful. ... I will stand with them to the bitter end."

Wait, a senator playing "politics"? I was under the assumption we elected them to play basketball. huh.

Ripley27,

Hahaahah! You have invoked her.
Someone ought to come up with a card like the Bevets card for this type of situation.

*ears perk up*

did someone say lilyconor??

*resists urge to post the 10 commandments again*

yeah...uh...dumb politicians. And never mind that the Republicans held up no less than 60 of Clinton's nominees. When the democratic party turns tables and holds up a whopping four, THAT'S being partisan and unproductive.

2003-11-13 10:30:24 AM
I INVOKE THE SPIRIT OF LILYCONNOR!

DON'T MAKE ME GO LC ON YO ASSES!

2003-11-13 10:30:26 AM
Waaaaah!
Give Bush what he wants. Now now now!
You have no right to oppose the neocons!

That's right Jeebus_Frist. I totally agree with you...wait, you were being sarcastic, weren't you? DAMN!

Religious flamewar down in the "scientific hoax" thread.

Political flamewar here.

Mmmmmmmmm. Smells like Fark.

-/grabs popcorn as the hate flows like sweet sweet honey

2003-11-13 10:32:49 AM
A tyranny of the minority of the Senate, apparently.

2003-11-13 10:33:20 AM
Gotta go check out the religious flamewar.

Onward and upward, LILYCONNOR!

2003-11-13 10:33:55 AM
Personally, I just like the visual of a bunch of crusty old guys uncomfortably resting on cramped little cots arging like a bunch of little girls.

2003-11-13 10:36:10 AM
What a joke. Do something useful or shut the hell up.

2003-11-13 10:36:43 AM
richbob,
i think most politicians are incapable of doing anything useful.

2003-11-13 10:36:55 AM
I find it interesting that some people have to way an argument with known false comparisons simply for effect. Now someone has compared conservatism to a communist genocidal dictator without any explanation as to why or how the comparison is valid.

2003-11-13 10:37:36 AM
Jeebus_Frist

...or of shutting the hell up.

2003-11-13 10:38:02 AM
Religious flamewar down in the "scientific hoax" thread.

It went religious? I thought it could be both, since "global warming" often turns into a political flamewar.

And again, how dare those Senators! The Republicans NEVER did anything like this to any of Clinton's nominees!

2003-11-13 10:38:34 AM
Should there be a law similar to Godwin's law for invoking communist accusations during a thread?
Yeltsin's law?
Stalin's law?

2003-11-13 10:42:19 AM
It went religious?

The moment someone mentioned creationism/evolution, both Bevets and the anti-Bevetses lit up the flamethrowers.

Heh heh.

[Mel Brooks]

"Bevets the flamethrower! The kids love this one."

Ah, and won't we be sittin' in the catbird's seat when Iraq finally has this type of democracy ? I hope it's soon, I hate seeing italians getting blown to bits in Iraq. I love italians !

2003-11-13 10:44:55 AM
How DARE the Dems hold up FOUR of Bush's nominees! This is absolutely unheard of and has never happened before ever in the history of this country!! They should be *ashamed* of themselves.

*looks at the 90s*

Oh, they should have held up 10 times as many. Nevermind.

2003-11-13 10:46:38 AM

The Bushies are crybabies. They don't get 5% of their nominees and they whine, while Clinton had 40+% of his nominees not given hearings.

Waaah, farking wah. Now go to work instead of wasting our time with this crap. Oh wait, I've seen the Republican Congress work. More of this crap, please.

That, my friend, was quite unpatriotic of you.

2003-11-13 10:54:48 AM
First off, they weren't cramped little cots, they were queen size thick mattresses, 2nd, it's amazing that all the Senators are actually debating something, usually it's just preprogrammed speeches.......... turns on c-span....... forget what I said about preprogrammed speeches, it's the same old same old, back to reuns of the West Wing, where we see what a President could be, damn you Aaron Sorkin!

Horowitz's Law?

*reference to David Horowitz, neoconservative (in the original meaning of the word) writer whose experiences with the American Communist Party lead him to associate everything leftward with the dirty Pinkos

Just some fyi...
Altogether, during the 103rd-106th Congresses, President Bill Clinton transmitted to the Senate:

- two Supreme Court nominations, both of which were confirmed during the 103rd Congress;
- 106 nominations to the U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeals, of which 65 were confirmed;
- 382 nominations to the U.S. District Courts (including the territorial district courts), of which 303 were confirmed;
- six nominations to the U.S. Court of International Trade, five of which were confirmed;
- the names of seven nominees to the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, all of whom received Senate confirmation;
- the names of nine nominees to the U.S. Tax Court, all of whom were confirmed;
- one nomination to the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, which was confirmed during the 105th Congress;
- the names of 24 nominees to the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, 22 of whom were confirmed;
- five nominations to the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, four of which were confirmed;
- and two nominations to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, both of which were confirmed.

Dish

I hope that was sarcasm.

Roark

Do you have the stats for the last three years on confirmations. And do those numbers include the blue slipping a lot of Clinton nominees received?

2003-11-13 11:00:16 AM
GREAT quote!

Bush told reporters. "And yet a few senators are playing politics and it's wrong and it's shameful....

nothing gets my ire like Politicians playing politics, grrrrr

I'd pay good money to see Orin Hatch and Robert Byrd get into a tickle fight.

2003-11-13 11:03:23 AM
If it pisses off Boxer, I'm all for it. That biatch needs to choke on man-tool.

2003-11-13 11:03:54 AM
Thanks for wasting American tax dollars. I can't farking believe that the Republicans, who have won everything but the kitchen sink in the last 10 years, would have the friggin' balls to have a 30 hour whine-a-thon over 4 insane judicial nominees. Get over it.

Not like there's anything more important going on right now.

2003-11-13 11:04:50 AM
Wah, the Democrats have only approved a mere 98% of Bush's judicial nominees. How dare they be so ruthless and partisan! They should treat Bush's nominees with the same dignity and respect that the Republicans treated Clinton's nominees with. Which, of course, is exactly what they're doing. So suck on it GOP. Until you control 60% of the Senate (god help us all if that ever happens), you're going to find out that what goes around comes around.

Roark reports:

Just some fyi...
Altogether, during the 103rd-106th Congresses, President
Bill Clinton transmitted to the Senate:
- two Supreme Court nominations, both of which were confirmed during the 103rd Congress;
- 106 nominations to the U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeals, of which 65 were confirmed;
- 382 nominations to the U.S. District Courts (including the territorial district courts), of which 303 were confirmed;...

And those that weren't confirmed (except for 1) didn't even get hearings or votes in the Judiciary Committee. By Roark's count, that's 41 Circuit Court judges and 79 district court judges.

All of this sanctimonious talk from the GOP about the awful treatment these 4 judges have gotten is bullshiat. They know full well that they did the same thing to Clinton's nominees.

The filibuster is a procedural technique for preventing a vote you would otherwise lose on an issue you oppose. Refusing to schedule a hearing to a committee vote is a procedural technique for preventing a vote you would otherwise lose on an issue you oppose.

One's out in the open, the other happens in secret. At least the Democrats have the balls to do theirs on the record.

....and still no cure for crappy government.

2003-11-13 11:06:22 AM
Now if some arabs flew a plane into a government building right now, say, with sleeping wankers who "work" for the government, I'm sure we wouldn't care...

A little aside on Pickering.

The Village Voice, NY's own liberal bastion of wordplay, wrote an intersting article last week saying Pickering should be confirmed. They slam the Democrats for blocking his nomination because of one case. It seems Pickering has been a temperate and fair judge across the board and the case of the cross burning has been blown out of proportion. I think in the heat of the battle certain rules have been cast aside. One being that people have lost the ability to look at an issue fairly and without prejudice. Both the democrats and the republicans are guilty of this.

By the way, I am a liberal.

2003-11-13 11:07:32 AM
How dare those Democrats not give the President what he wants when he asks for it?! How dare CBS even think about filming a piece of Ronald Reagan Christ that had the word "bad" in the script? This is interfering with the new Republican monocracy that has required hard work from surly vote counters watching out for black voters, networks who kowtow and fight the urge to be jouralistic, etc.

And remember, as always, if enough terrorists are killed and/or captured, EVERYBODY WHO DIED ON 9-11 WILL RETURN FROM THE DEAD!!
