Lighten up farkers, it is called freedom of speech.

I know most of up non-freepers will admit that too many Republicans will attack 'liberals' for behavior that they approved a few years ago. To a lesser extent this was true by very liberal fringe groups which are very well kept in check these days.

Accept that too many Republicans are whiny biatches with no sense of humor or grace, and allow them the freedom of speech that they so often attempt to deny others.

Stay classy because they won't.

My understanding of history may not be quite up to snuff, but I think that in the 1860's there might have been different alignments.

In my own opinion, I think it is because of how powerful northern economy was compared to the southern. Many in the south distrusted the big businesses in the north. It is not that hard to see when you figure in Robber Barons. Only 3, according to Wikipedia, were southerners.

JFK changed it all. He was a northern pro-union Democrat who believed in civil rights. The south, however, wanted nothing to do with civil rights. I think it became a partisan issue, which is why pro-big business ideology stayed when the political shift happened.

The south was agrarian back then so southern pols would probably not have been pro-business by default because they didn't have much in the way of manufacturing.

Republicans were not around that much prior to the civil war, which is why I stated in my above post "If you discount the years between 1866 and 1964, then yes, you are correct" in referring to the south being pro-wealthy

I've been to a rodeo. The core of a rodeo is the burning desire to see an actual person stomped into the dirt by a large, uncontrollable animal force. That desire is repeatedly frustrated, because rodeo performers still cling to some semblance of an instinct for self-survival (why a rodeo performer wishes to stay alive is a mystery to me). So it does not surprise me at all that people who go to rodeos to quench their bloodlust cheer loudly when an effigy of The Evil Kenyan is torn to pieces.

But then it surprises me that rodeo audiences don't routinely turn on each other, burn the place down, and hold cannibal sacrifices.

If it's an explicit call to violence from the government's point of view, why are people who do this not routinely sent to prison? If I walk around with a sign saying "shoot Obama in the head", I know I'd be locked up, so why aren't they? I'll tell you why. Because it's not a call to violence at all, only an expression of hatred which is constitutionally protected. Even the government, as incompetent as it is, still knows this better than you, and Alphax.

At this point we shouldn't even be using Republicans for any sort of comparison as they will do what benefits them the most. The depressing part of all of this is that I happen to like rodeos, and bull-riding in particular. Seeing this kind of stupidity is just another way of excluding moderates, like myself, from these self-identifying rituals.

Still looking for the official event hosted by a town on the 4th of July where they beat up an effigy of Bush and made sure to erase all doubts by naming him directly, saying 'Who wants to rip Bush's head off?'. Until we find that, then this isn't a 'Both sides do it story at all'.

FTFA:
A crude effigy was produced during the rodeo on Saturday night, and then violently beaten and destroyed in response to an announcer's call to the audience: "Who wants to rip Obama's head off?"

But hey, I get it, it was buried pretty deep in the accompanying article, way down in the latter part of the second half of it.
