If you're going to make the definition as broad as "being scared of things we were designed by evolution to be scared of" or course 99.9% of people and 99.9% of animals are going to fit that category.

Everyone has something mentioned in the DSM to some degree. The only difference is that in most cases it doesn't interfere with daily life.

I think this is crap. I'm sorry the author has OCD. I'm glad people are speaking out about it and pushing others to get the help they need. But I do not have OCD.

Everyone has fears, disproportionate responses, and peculiarities. Mine are my personal space (not yours, can't has) and being barefoot (having to go to a shoes off house or remove my shoes at the doctor's office just makes me all kinds of irrationally butt-hurt). I correct spelling and grammar in the newspaper for fun, I always get a transfer on the bus just in case, and I refuse to swim in the ocean because horrible things live there.

Those are quirks. They are not a disorder.

Who's life? The farktard in a position of authority, or the his/her victim?

There are cops on the street practicing dime store psychology who ought to be in the same PMITA prison as the other douchebags.

No OCD here, either. (refresh)

I'd appreciate a brief period of OCD. I might catch up with work and clean up the place. But alas I'm a terminal slob.

well i just want to make sure everything loaded ok and i'm seeing everything that i should be seeing because with different browsers and add ons and whatnot i like to know i'm getting everything the designers wanted to present because it would be unfair to all the various parties involved were i to judge something without getting the full picture.

Everyone in America is also traumatized. Seriously people, can we save the trauma for war refugees, rape victims, and soldiers? You're not traumatized because your job is tough or because someone yelled at you.

Ugh, I'm the worst- an OCD slob. I get grossed out by the slightest imperfection yet am too lazy to do much about it. In fact, dirtiness immobilizes me for some reason so I just ignore it.

/also, lazy

Anyone else have a constant urge to "balance" things? Like if I touch something with my left hand, I have to touch something with my right hand to balance it out. Or if I walk on sidewalk cracks with my left foot, I have to walk on sidewalk cracks with my right foot an equal number of times.

2012-07-04 05:39:09 PM
fark.

Just because you vacuum twice a week and keep your spices alphabetized does not mean you have a disease. Not even a little bit. Implying otherwise is an insult to people who really do suffer from OCD.

By the same token, TFA is kinda pathetic. Lady doesn't want to be the crazy one, so of course everybody has her particular disorder to some degree.

If everyone has it, IT isn't a disorder, right? I mean, we all sometimes get angry at certain points in our lives, but that doesn't mean that anger is necessarily a disease or disorder in and of itself. This is just retarded, in my opinion.

2012-07-04 05:40:29 PM
I believe everyone who fears everything is either a coward or has a guilty conscience. I fear nothing (except spiders of course).

Yeah, when I was in second grade. I was at a zoo, it seemed like a good idea, I kept it up for about six months, then stopped because my parents told me it was weird.

If you can't leave your house because there's an odd number of birds on your porch, you have a disorder.

Thats the joke I make about my girlfriend. I also occasionally start singing the Monk theme when she starts getting overobssessive about price comparisons when we are out shopping and other stuff like that

No. I forget to do stuff that is normal for other people. I get distracted a lot. I have to enter items into my calendar at work to remember them all and I take notes, badly. I have gotten good at adapting to a world where I frequently forget what I was doing for the past 15 minutes.

2012-07-04 05:49:46 PM
I'm guessing for every human there are certain things that if they aren't "just right" you get than pang of uneasiness. Most are able to ignore it when needed though.

It's when you can't ignore it that you have a mental disorder. It is however one of the easier mental disorders to treat. It's also a bit like addiction in that there is a point for most people where they can make a choice to stop it from getting worse.

So... a journalist that doesn't understand even the most basic things about what she's talking about. Quelle surprise.
