At least they've figured out how not to make it too obvious. Usually the video that winds up on youtube is from a nice hi-def camera and the principals are wearing mics.

I don't know if this in particular is viral marketing, but the Toronto Batman guy (in general) isn't. He's just some guy who's been doing this sort of thing and showing up and random events in Toronto for the last few years.

2012-07-04 04:46:52 PM
Huh. Apparently he's only been at it about 6 months, I had no idea. Seems like much longer.

At any rate, the guy is doing/lampooning 'shiat batman says,' except in costume and in public at public events.

The Batman eerily sounds like a mix between Kevin Conroy and Christian Bale.

Indeed.

I *am* a proponent of subtlety, now.

Mostly.

Sometimes.

Doesn't every major city have these?

I've seen one in NYC, there was a spiderman hanging from some scaffolding that was just above ground level and he was told to get off of it, he complied with a whimpery 'yes sir'. I know, CSB.

I don't think these guys are viral marketing. I think they are out to get their kicks.

...that was f*cking stupid. All anyone needs to do these days to sell ad revenue is make a goddam ironic pop culture reference in a slightly unexpected place, and some boring doofus with a mint condition metal lunchbox in his closet will come running with a fist full of dollars.

There's money to be made in these parts. Least that's what that crazy bell-ringer tells me.

That's one of the new TTC subway trains. Neat. Still haven't ridden one; I rarely use the subway system.

I can probabaly count on one hand the number of times of used the subway in the last 15 years, had to sign some papers at the lawyers a month ago and got one of those new trains both trips... Very cool! open through the whole train front to back which is a little weird, but you can actually understand the disembodied voice and there very cool led enhanced maps over the doors too.

-1 to subby for misspelling "Spider-man".

Why does his name have a hyphen, anyway?

fusillade762: -1 to subby for misspelling "Spider-man".

It was to differentiate from other heroes- Batman, Superman, etc., who don't use hyphens.

Still had better acting and dialogue than 1997's Batman and Robin.

Not "other heroes". Just to differentiate him from Superman.

Who the fark is going to confuse Batman with Spider-Man?

Now look at this:

Superman
Spiderman

At a glance, it might as well be the same name.

BTW, Bat-Man can be hyphenated too. It started that way, but with time Batman became the preferred, but not exclusive, nomenclature.

This reminds me of the stuff I did in theatre and the SCA that I thought was really edgy, rebellious and cool when I was in my early 20's but turned out to be lame crap.

If Spider-Man and Batman were to fight there wouldn't even be a struggle. Spider-Man should kick batman's as so hard that the resulting shockwave of force would be enough to turn dick grayson straight.

That was just so...so...lame. Fake childish shove fight between an idiot dressed up as Batman and an idiot dressed up as Spiderman. It's so lame, its actually a little depressing.

hn, random. I actually bumped into these two as they were leaving the subway station. Spiderman actually had a very good Peter Parker sounding voice.
