Polonium isn't an American thing. Or Israeli. We prefer botulism and ricin for our weapons of choice.

Wonder if the Russkies had a reason to want Arafat dead?

Another POS tyrant 'murdered'?

He deserved it; his actions kept the 'Palastinians' locked up in 'refugee' camps, he refused to bargin in good faith with Israel, he stole hundreds of millions of dollars in aid money that should have gone to the people he claimed to represent and for all his overtures to the people of the West that he wanted peace to his own people 'peace' meant the total annialation of Israel and the Jews.

He never wanted peace and his refusing of Israel's offer of 97% of what he wanted proves it.

Fark him.

gotta bear mind, despite all the "love" the Israelis had for him (his compound was basically crushed to rubble and electricity was intermittent), Arafat had a power struggle going on with Hamas, it is not out of the question they may have had a hand in the polonium.

I'm guessing Mossad is behind this, based on, you know, RECENT HISTORY.

Thier hamas intelligence service was able to acquire it from thier soviet contact. Plausible, and by plasuible I mean "what is wrong with you?".

liam76: Exhuming his body will prove nothing as this kind of poisoning isn't consistent with his sickness.

The polonium clearly didn't kill him, but there are very few explanations for why the polonium would be there except that somebody tried to kill him. They failed, because his sickness got him first, or perhaps they were trying to speed up the process.

The next question becomes who tried. Polonium is known to be one of the Russian government's favored weapons of assassination, but by itself that doesn't prove anything: Russia had no motive to kill him, and getting one's hands on polonium isn't that hard.

At this point, I'd say that if anyone tried to kill him, the most likely suspect would be his rivals in Hamas. They had reason enough to kill him, and could have gotten access polonium through their ties with Iran. On the other hand, anyone standing against Hamas -of which there are plenty- would know that this method would make it look like Hamas did it, and may have counted on that fact, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.

hoodiowithtudioArafat had a power struggle going on with Hamas, it is not out of the question they may have had a hand in the polonium.

I thought this was a possibility at first too (I know Abbas sure would have been happy to see him go).

But the method is way too high-tech. A Palestinian organization would have done it in a simpler, messier way.

And the kicker is that if they were EVER found out it would be an entire country of Palestinians out for their heads, because your average Palestinian liked (not loved) ole Yasser.

The people who wanted him dead the most was the Israelis, and they have the resources and the motive, and they would want to do it in a way that was as undetectable as possible.

2012-07-04 10:47:42 AM
I'm sure the Palestinians would love to see him martyred and become a Palestinian MLK, but the facts just don't support it. If the U.S. or Israel was going to assassinate him, they would have done so at least 20-30 years earlier, back when he was actually a thorn in their side. If anything, any residual radiation is probably more of an indication of his participation in nefarious plans. In actuality, he's been quite useful for things like proving that the Nobel Peace Prize is a sham.

He was a dictator and got what he deserved.

For starters

1) His actions led to 'Palestinians' being kept in 'refugee camps' for decades

2) He stole millions of dollars in aid meant for 'his' people

3) He was a liar. While sucking up to the West by talking about his desire for peace he told 'his' people that 'peace' meant the total and complete distruction of Israel and its citizens.

4) He wanted to keep his power, not come to terms with Israel. The proof is that Israel agreed 97% of his demands and he turned them down.

He was a POS.

Fark him.

Also that's why they refuse to release his medical records, even today.

A story that has been totally debunked for what, 4 years now?

Try harder. And while you're at it, read the Al Jazeera article and maybe learn something.

/CNS NEWS, hahaha!

Study after study by the Media Research Center, the parent organization of CNSNews.com, clearly demonstrate a liberal bias in many news outlets - bias by commission and bias by omission - that results in a frequent double-standard in editorial decisions on what constitutes "news."

Exactly.

At the time he died, Arafat was far more useful to the Israeli government alive. He was the predictable, known enemy: he never left his compound and they had decades to map out his massive financial empire and the funding for attacks on Israel. He even divided Fatah's efforts between attacking Israelis and opposing Hamas since he hated the Islamist group for being competition for influence over the Palestinian people.

It sounds cliched, but in a post-9/11 world, it was in the Israelis' interest to allow the Palestinians to continue to kowtow to this gun-slinger whose proclivities for violence over statesmanship cost him further credibility when Western governments were slightly more sympathetic to the victims of Muslim and Arab 'splosions

Also he cared more about maintaining his power and status as the head of the PLO than getting a peace deal and ending settlements, in that he shared aims with the Israeli right.

It was actually 100% if you include minor land swaps, and he turned it down because his own people would murder him for it.

Have fun testing for Polonium-210. It has a half-life of 138.376 days, and no amount of preservation or freezing of any samples would make one iota of difference.
More than 20 half-lives have expired since he died. .This leaves the polonium-210 at 5.6e-7 the original amount, or 0.000056%.

On top of that, Polonium-210 is prevalent in the biosphere in small amounts because it's on the uranium-238 decay chain. So, all living things on the food chain contain a trace amount of Po-210. Also there's Po-210 in secondhand smoke. It's infinitesimally small, but so is the % of Po-210 still active after 20+ half-lives.

Po-210's own decay yields the stable lead-206. But Pb-206 is 24.1% of the natural isotopic balance of ALL lead. ANY trace of lead would yield a million times more Pb-206 than a poisoning. You'd be looking for a deviation from normal in the isotopic balance. But at 24.1% of all lead anyhow, minute additions of Po-210-produced Pb-206's would be inconsequential. Isotopic balances are not "exact" to begin with and may vary by the source. If this were a RARE isotope, like 0.001%, a trace of Pb-206 would be meaningful because you might have 10x the naturally occurring amount. But that's not the case and there's no case for Po-210.

So how did you find it on his "clothes, toothbrush and kaffiyeh headscarf"?
