Obvious tag at the lake for the 4th? Make no mistake, all these right wing fundies when they talk about freedoms and liberties mean their freedom to crush, shame, incarcerate or liquidate all who are opposed to them. They don't want freedom as taught to us in grade school.

For me to call somebody fat is a big step. For this guy to suggest he knows the president of the United States and White House leaked this, he doesn't have a clue. If you say something like that, it's almost treasonous, the idea that Barack Obama would leak that is obscene and to suggest that Michelle Malkin, if I was Juan I'd wake up next to her with a shotgun.

Weird phrasing and stupid comment, but it seems that Beckel's saying that Malkin's accusations against Williams are so offensive, violent action would be (hypothetically) considered were he in Williams' shoes. Not unlike a senator saying if it were a different day and age, he'd challenge a journalist to a duel.

Bob Beckel literally says he would wield a shotgun against Michelle Malkin and total crickets.

cdn2.hark.com

LITERAL DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY!

Also, even if the statement was stupid (it was) and condoned violent (not quite, but arguable), it was in no way misogynistic. Stop playing the farking victim.

What had the slimy lout up in arms this time? Michelle Malkin's total smack-down of Juan Williams when Mr. Williams called her "just a blogger."

Incidentally, is it misogyny to call a woman a (coont, biatch, harpy, whatever misogynistic term you might use in this context) if the woman herself has made a career out of effectively questioning the masculinity of the group to which you belong and, by proxy, you personally? I mean, if the gender war glove has been thrown by her saying liberals aren't manly enough and you're impotent and weak... is the insult genuinely misogyny or just responding to her in the terms she has defined?

The way I read it, he's saying Juan will wake up, and there will be Malkin with a shotgun. It's kind of ambiguously worded. The stupidity level of the statement is off the charts, obviously, but between the two, Williams and Malkin, Malkin seems the more violent prone. I wonder if Beckel just screwed up the derp he was trying to say, and made it derpier.

from Wiki:

Beckel holds a B.A. from Wagner College.[1] While in college, he worked for Robert F. Kennedy's presidential campaign in 1968. Early in his career, he joined the U.S. Department of State and became the youngest deputy assistant secretary of state for the Carter administration.[2] Beckel was the campaign manager for Walter Mondale's 1984 presidential campaign. During that campaign he became known as the man who effectively wrapped the Wendy's slogan "Where's the Beef?" around Gary Hart, Mondale's opponent for the Democratic nomination.

I think we should steer clear of the "No True Scotsman" tactic.

But it happened to a conservative darling. So it had to be misogyny, or racism, or something. That said, he's Fox's problem. The guy, judging by Google, apparently can't open his mouth without saying something stupid. Fox seems to approve of his behavior, as he still has a job with them.

A "liberal" employed by Fox news that I had never heard of before. The guy sounds like a douche, but I am actually wondering:
would Fox hire a "pundit" to play the liberal on its programming, and make sure he says controversial things? That would certainly help drive Fox's narrative about evil libs, and it wouldn't surprise me a bit if they did that. At the very least, it certainly seems like they intentionally hire liberals who are either weak or douchebags for exactly that reason, to drive the corporate narrative.

MSNBC did themselves and the Right a favor by hiring Michael Steele. He never goes full derp, he is good at weaseling around questions, he provides the requisite nebulous stock answers about Romney and his intentions and how to energize the base - it makes MSNBC look not quite as biased (meaning, less than 100% after 4 pm) and it makes the GOP look not quite as insane.

Cuchulane: I cannot figure out what that even means. Juan Williams is sleeping with Michelle Malkin and needs a shotgun?

Ditto. It sounded like Williams would be afraid of her, ala sleeping with a gun under one's pillow. None of it made any damn sense and I'm confused as opposed to offended.

coeyagi: mrshowrules: HMS_Blinkin: mrshowrules: This guy is an idiot and is statement was inappropriate but also completely nonsensical. Mental illness might be a factor.

/yes I know he's a Liberal apparently

A "liberal" employed by Fox news that I had never heard of before. The guy sounds like a douche, but I am actually wondering:
would Fox hire a "pundit" to play the liberal on its programming, and make sure he says controversial things? That would certainly help drive Fox's narrative about evil libs, and it wouldn't surprise me a bit if they did that. At the very least, it certainly seems like they intentionally hire liberals who are either weak or douchebags for exactly that reason, to drive the corporate narrative.

See his bio, he's been around. Certainly Colmes proved that hiring a weak Liberal has its advantages. Fox would never have the balls to put a heavy hitter Liberal on their show.

However, everytime I turn CNN on, I see Bachman blabbering complete nonsense. I can't imaging any mainstream Conservatives enjoying having this idiot as their spokesman.

Steele doesn't come off as a hateful idiot which is about the nicest thing I'm willing to say about most people in the GOP today.

no he's a Fox News employee playing the part of a "liberal"

He does whatever his employer wants.

I think these quotes put this "outrage" in context:

"She's the reason women invented abortions."

"If you don't hate Malkin and the people who buy her books, you don't love your country."

"In this recurring nightmare that is Malkin, we have a debate about whether she is "an idiot" even though all sentient people know she is. Otherwise there would be debates only about whether to burn her books or assassinate her."

"My only regret about the 9/11 terrorists is that they didn't go to Michelle Malkin's house."

"We really need somebody to put rat poisioning in Michelle Malkin's Cream of Wheat."

"I think our new motto should be 'Flip talks tough, flip faces consequences.'"

"I've never seen anyone enjoy being the victim of racism as much as this broad has. A lot of Americans have been seething over the inanities of this professional victim for some time."

"Now that her shelf life is dwindling, Malkin better hurry up and appear in Playboy."

*For the unenlightened, these are all Ann Couter quotes, altered slightly to make Malkin the target of Coulter's unhinged hatred. Since Malkin thinks highly enough of Coulter to publish a video "salute" to her, I'm sure she'll be fine with this.

MSNBC would probably hire a faux conservative and have him say things like, "Women should stay at home where they belong, and please their men, and brown people should learn their place," but honesty, real-world Republicans do so much of that already that it would just get lost in the background noise.

In his defense, it is wise to have a means of self-defense around Michelle Malkin. Of course, if it latches onto your skin and starts sucking the blood from your veins, you could expose it to sunlight.

Good point. However, Scarborough has his own show, so it's significantly different. I'm not going to make any claims that MSNBC is "fair and balanced" while Fox is not. I will say, though, that Beckel is a comical sideshow, the guy who is supposed to annoy and get in trouble, and it's understood that if one of his tricks goes too far over the top, he's expendable. Scarborough is a network franchise.

Having said that, I don't think there's much doubt that they keep Scarborough around because he plays the loudmouthed eye-rolling "oh give me a break" bully, and that is what they want to portray as "the right."

They're all overpaid underqualified talking heads, but there's a range from sort-of-integrity to anything-for-money, and I think Beckel is closer to the anything-for-money position than Scarborough. I think Fox News is closer to that than MSNBC.

This reminds me. We watched the first two episodes of "The Newsroom" last night. It depicts Jeff Daniels as the host of a news show, and also the driving force behind it, the guy shaping the content, and making the editorial decisions, based on a keen desire to be the first to get the real story out there, even if he's also sometimes overly focused on ratings. A tough, competent, smart, hard-working, complex newsman who is also the guy in front of the camera, and completely unafraid of where a story goes.

Now think of Wolf Blitzer, Anderson Cooper, Bill O'Reilly, Brett Baier, Joe Scarborough, Larry O'Donnell, not to mention Nancy Grace.

Bwahahahahaha!

FloydA: Can anyone explain to me what the hell that article was actually about?

Some Fox News employee who says a lot of stupid things said something stupid involving Michelle Malkin. Since he suggested violence against Malkin, and Malkin is female, this is automatically misogyny in the whacky world of right-wingers where the meaning of words changes by the minute as the narrative requires. And since he's employed as a Right Wing Whacktard Whipping Boy (RRWWB) for Fox News, he's "a liberal".

Plus you then have comedic gems like:

Sarah Palin uses a crosshairs map in an ad and she is held responsible for any act of violence, ever, in perpetuity

Because why bother crafting an intelligent and coherent narrative when you can just make up outrageous lies about other people and blow them through your ass hairs?

More wild and whacky fun from the modmins who bring you ridiculous bullshiat hidden behind the "Some Guy" moniker. Wheeee! Fun! Spreading obvious lies via ridiculous far-out blogs is wonderful fun!

They pay him to "cause controversy" (it's probably in his contract) where none exists so according to his handlers -he should do that.

I consider it a rather mild invective compared to what I think should be done to someone like Dick Cheney.
