People aren't prejudiced against fat people. People are tired of getting squeezed out of bus, train and airplane seats by fat people. People are tired of fat people waddling slowly through the hallways and blocking everyone else. People are tired of fat people smelling like a musty hog rendering plant. People are tired of fat people getting sick and injured and raising their insurance rates.

People are tired of fat people whining all the time about how they're so put upon while slurping down a 72 oz sugary drink with one hand while stuffing a pound of cheesecake in their face with the other.

If you don't like people being annoyed at your fat ass, stop having such a fat ass you hopeless pile of quivering goo.

Christie said he mostly encounters cruel and hurtful insults on his Twitter feed.

[welcometotwitter]

Christie wouldn't rule out running for VP.

"If Governor Romney picks up the phone and calls, you have to answer the call and listen at least," he said on CNBC.

STFU. Christie has ruled out running as Veep at least a dozen times that I've heard to date.

If he's backtracking from that now it could mean the GOP-E are putting pressure on him to reconsider.

I said sometimes, not all the time. you can respect an opinion of someone who is normally an asshole if it does turn out to be the right thing. For example, when he appointed a Muslim judge, he shouted down all the questions he got about Sharia law as crazy and he appointed the man for being a good judge. So, you're telling me I shouldn't respect that opinion, because a bunch of his other opinions are retarded?

I'm not a trim guy, but I'm not Chris Christie huge. But I did find myself approaching 300 pounds at one point, and I knew I had to do something. So I put myself on a diet, and through discipline and willpower, got myself down to about 230 inside a year. I've put a little bit back on since then, but I'm still nowhere near 300.

You can't go without eating, but you can go without seconds. And that's all it takes, sometimes.

Christie's an asshole, but he's not "right-wing" by any measure. I've seen enough derpery to know a normal Republican from a "right-winger". He'd be a RINO in many parts of the country.

On another note: I remember reading an article about Christie recently, and there was a picture in there of him in college. He was actually pretty in good shape! Like actually skinny! I think he was on the baseball team or something. I think it's law school that did him in -- one of my best friends gained something like 20-30 lbs in law school. I don't think that's enough to turn a skinny baseball player into Jabba the Hutt, but it may have started him down that path.

Well that and the fact that fasting is not unheard of. I didn't eat one day a year growing up (Ash Wednesday), the muslim kids at school had it harder during Ramadan (but they could eat at night) etc. We all survived, taught self restraint, empathy with those actually hungry, etc. I actually still observe Ash Wednesday even though I'm an agnostic adult.

Anyway, I gained weight at first when I worked in politics (rush rush have a second grab delivery menus for lunch then fast food or bar or diner food once you drag yourself out of the office cause it's midnight...)

Then this sweet volunteer started buying farm stand fruit for us for snacks, I realized how much money I spent out on crappy food and taught myself to cook quick dinners, etc.

Christie could take the initiative and focus on simply adding more local fruits and veggies - hell, the ag groups would love it - and filling up on those. But he may have retreated too far into comfort food 24/7 territory at this point.

I'm embarrassed to admit this, but despite the many good reasons, Christie has never struck the same bad nerve with me as much of his GOP brethren. He can loudly trumpet all sorts of reprehensible things and his face will still never come anywhere near the level of punchability I see in Cantor or Boehner.

Hate on him all you want. All I know is that the house I bought here in Ocean County for 163.5 (at a high) back in '86, I could sell tomorrow for 250 (in a low) if I felt like giving it away.

Since he took over from that crook Corzine, my property taxes have stabilized, and he's trying to lower them with no help from the Dems. Our State budget is balanced for a third consecutive year and if you check NJ at debtclock.org, you'll see debt and spending counting down while revenue is counting up. And all the while we maintain one of the best education systems in the nation. Sure, there are a few things I don't like about him, but overall I think he's done a damn fine job so far. And judging from all the "but he's fat" posts coming from the Fark libtard brigade he scares the lot of you which also pleases me :-)

your links are inconclusive. They do not say who would be responsible for cost overruns since a final deal was never struck between NJ and the federal government but negotiations left that bag in NJs lap...the article also claims the federal government would "share costs" with NJ by offering loans...which usually means we give you money up front and you pay us back over time with interest....again leaving that bag in NJs lap.

It also doesn't mention how much NJ is on the hook for via the PANYNJ portion when you factor in that NJ helps fund the PANYNJ.

The info they gleaned was through a study commissioned by Frank Lautenberg (D) who was one of the most vocal proponents of the project....I've always heard that you get the results you ask for in studies like that.

Consumer price index from 1986 hovered around 109, compared to it's current level of 230. For your house to be worth even the same today in terms of actual spending power you'd have to sell it for 345k. That's not even factoring in TVoM, or how much you actually paid by the time the loan was paid off. I wouldn't feel too happy about that if I were you.

Also, if you do feel fine with that, I'm happy for you as it's your money and your life, and there are other benefits to home ownership that I'm sure you've enjoyed over the years. I just wouldn't give one Governor much credit (or blame) for the cost of real estate over a span of 26 years.

your links are inconclusive.

I trust the work of the GAO, which is largely nonpartisan. Of course it's nearly impossible to EVER prove a politician lied- plausible deniability and that good stuff. However, the consensus out there among most people is that Christie f*cked this deal up big-time. He's had successes but this project is not one of them. Neither was the proposed ceding of Rutgers-Camden to Rowan.

The GAO also said there was no way to determine who would get the bill for cost overruns. ....(fact, right?)

"This GAO report sets the record straight on last year's debate over ARC," Nisly said...(except for who would be on the hook for cost overruns)

the report failed to consider the added $775 million cost of the Portal Bridge (another fact, right?)

LaHood had offered more loans, (fact which leaves NJ on the hook for the cost of the loans to cover the cost overruns)

Inconclusive in my eyes....the links obviously leaves little to doubt for you though.

Well voters are idiots, wouldn't you agree? They are some of the most misinformed people out there who hear a sounbyte from FOX or some other news outlet and never question the truthiness of it.....

Who came up with the plan for Rutgers and Rowan to merge anyway? I'm not too sure Christie had anything to do with creating that scenario.... he did back the plan that they came up with though or rather he threw his weight behind it.....

The ARC deal was stupid from the start...it didn't connect to existing rail lines and had to have its own standalone multi billion dollar terminal built, inflating the costs.

This deal was a case of Corzine "doing something even if its wrong".

Yeah. I don't post much, but I've seen quite a few of "those" threads on Fark as well. Bottom line though? All things (including taxes, replacing appliances, a roof, etc.) considered, it's cost me a little less than 260/month to live in a 3-bedroom ranch on 1/4 acre of property at the shore for the past 26 years. That is, assuming I can get 250 for the house, which I'm SURE I can, and probably 10-20K more. What can you sell a place you are renting for? And can you rent anything decent this side of Serbia for 260/month? :-) Real Estate really is all about location. Not the size of the property/house. Just sayin'.

As I said earlier, if he can't be honest to himself who will he be honest with? Fridges don't vote. The little to-do with the privatizing of the halfway houses doesn't appear to be very honest either. Flying in helicopters to attend little league games is just spiteful. How broke was NJ suppose to be? NJ is helicopter rich, that's how broke. Honesty such a lonely little word, and it appears to be the size of Gov. Christie's feet. He hasn't seen his feet in years.

If you habitually act like a douchebag, people will get annoyed and insult you. Insults, in order to be effective, often make reference to distinctive personal characteristics. If Christie were in Olympian-weightlifter shape, people would be speculating that his outbursts were due to 'roid rage. If he were a short man, they'd be calling him an angry little dwarf. If he were of German heritage, the Nazi jokes would be flying.

The solution: don't habitually act like a douchebag.

With me it's more about the fact that I travel for work about 4-6 times per year, typically two weeks or so at a time, and I don't have a wife to keep the place monitored while I'm gone. I also work in a specialized and volatile field, and things can go from secure to looking for work in a couple months, which often requires a move. Owning a house just isn't a good prospect when you have to sell/buy to do the move.

Also, I consider the maintenance to be a large part of what I'm paying for, along with the convenience of just telling someone that there's a problem and it's magically fixed when I get home from work.

For me it's also about the fact that even a small house around Madison would run me $1200/mo, plus all the maintenance and property tax, instead of $600/mo all included but electricity. I use the extra cash to make other investments. So while the $600/mo is an expense I won't get back, there is a lower opportunity cost in the short term by saving $600/mo in cash outflow. I invest the positive cash balance, and over the last 20 years my investments have given a much higher ROI than real estate has historically provided. If you're looking for flexibility, both in terms of where you and your money are, renting is a nice option. If you're looking for stability, the house seems more appealing.

I figure a lot of it's all in what you want out of life. I never saw homes as an investment, but rather a lifestyle choice. If I ended up with a kid I'd buy a house and reconsider my career so the little one could have more stability.
