Oh sure, another map depicting Canada as a grey area.

A copy of it can be seen here.

Evidently, the big difference between this and other known versions of this map is that Calicut is in the forth, not fifth gore and the the upper borders of the gores are less distinctive, hatching and letters are different.

Hey, this map shows America where Brazil and other South American countries should be. The Latinos are right--they're the real Americanos, not the United Statesians. It's a cover up!

On the other hand, the United States seems to stop at the Mason-Dixon line, so maybe the Southenahs are right and they're the R.E.A.L. United States. Apparently the North and Canada simply do not exist, confirming rumours that the climate renders the area uninhabitable, possibly due to ice cover caused by global warming.

Any way, that guy can't draw worth shiat. About the only thing he got more or less right is Spain. Typical Dutch. Thinking of nothing but his holidays.

Well, that, and that it's quite tiny compared to the other ones. The one the Library of Congress has, which is the most valuable piece in their collection BTW- even more valuable than one of the three complete copies of the Gutenburg Bible- is rather giant. About 4 feet high, IIRC. It took an act of Congress to approve the purchase, and Germany's Parliament (I can't spell Bundeschlag or whatever it is) to allow the sale, even though it was owned by a private collector.

Oh, and when there are rare books discovered anywhere in the world, in any language, the Library of Congress will descend. It surprised me to learn, but they apparently have offices and employees all over the world looking for and buying every rare book they can find, from yard sales to auctions. They're almost certainly in talks to buy this thing too.

Yes, this is a map by Waldseemuller which is based on his map which is in the Library of Congress, but it is not an unknown map. There were previously 4 known copies (same size), but what makes this fifth map special is that this is a new variation. So either this was either a new engraving, or the old plates were touched up (so to speak).

Also, the map by Waldseemuller in the Library of Congress is probably not unique. If the notes in the border of the map are to be strictly interpreted, then there were 1,000 copies printed. I've heard speculation that there is probably an undoumented copy in Paris, but no one has found it yet.
