That is not calling the shot. Go back and look up calling the shot. I assume you are referring to a Babe Ruth type of calling a shot and not just calling a random pool shot.

If there were eight at the table to start the day, I don't know that the betting odds were but think you'll concede he had a better than 1 in 8 chance of winning the event, perhaps as low as 1 in 3 or 4.

He played well. He got a lot of good cards. (They showed that stat repeatedly during the broadcast.) Poker is a game of luck and skill.

I know that there is some controversy over what Ruth did that day in the 1932 World Series. That is really not the issue. That type of thing is what is required to be described as "calling a shot". Hitting a home run is any one plate appearance is still a rare and difficult event, even for someone like Ruth. (He hit 714 home runs in 8399 at bats-- so a home run in any one at bat was less than a 1 in 10 shot.) Choosing where something would go makes it an order of magnitude more difficult (eleventy times more). That is what I understand "calling a shot" to mean.

Whatever Esfandiari did was not "calling his shot".

Probably not, but I'm sure he had at least 50%, which is still more than the main event pays. Oh, how I wish I could be part of the epic celebration that likely occurred last night.

This is a guy who purposely tried to "outball" Kobe Bryant after seeing him in the same Vegas club one night to the tune of a $35000 bar tab. I can only imagine what kind of sick tab he had after an $18M payday.

That doesn't mean anything. Earlier in the WSOP, Antonio had like 80% of the chips 3-handed at a final table. Where did he finish? 3rd.

The chip lead means nothing if you don't have the cards go your way too.

I know Hellmuth said he only had 15% of himself, but he's the only one who's gone on record on how much he's actually making from this (if you don't count the guy giving everything to charity).

Antonio probably didn't have all of himself. But unless he had only 5% or less of his action, he's still making at least 7 figures for 3 days of play.

Saw some of this tournament live in person on day one, so getting a kick, etc.

I saw Hellmuth, Negreanu, and Rick Soloman all sitting right together at one table right in front of me, and I think Sexton was two the other side of Hellmuth.

Cool Story Bro time/

The Grinder was out in the hallway walking back to the tables from break while I was in the Amazon Room checking the leaderboard. My partner sees the Grinder walking fast and scribbling his autograph onto hats and such. My partner recognizes The Grinder on TV, but didn't recognize him in person. So she beat him in and is standing next to me in the entrance to the tables. I say "here comes Grinder", and she turns around and recognizes him and blurts out real loud "Oh, hai!" and stops him dead in his tracks (my partner is gorgeous), and she continues "How are you doing?" The Grinder stopped because she said it so loud that I think he expected to recognize her (but didn't). Then he just got this broad smile on his face and said "I'm doing fine, how are you?", then stepped on in past security to the tables.

The Grinder looks kind of pudgy and unattractive on TV. It's true the TV adds 15 pounds...at least. The Grinder is not nearly as pudgy as he looks on TV, is taller than you might imagine, and is much, much better looking in person.
