I've never felt like furries deserve all the hate that they get. From what I see, they keep to themselves and don't try to bring it up where it isn't wanted.

Bronies on the other hand....well maybe I've run into some of the worst examples of bronies.

http://bronysay.tumblr.com/

What creeps me out about this tumblr is how many bronies follow it....

clyph: What is status within your peer group worth? Why is buying a $10k fursuit any worse then spending the same amount on, say, golf clubs to impress your buddies?

Hey. What you do is what you do. But when you do it in a public venue, like in a hotel ballroom or in a Volunteer Fire Department, and not -say - behind closed doors, then what you do becomes what I question.

I'm sure there are IRC networks you can go to. Various art websites too. Some kind of socialization takes place (I don't understand that stuff) and you find people in your area and well... I suppose you take it as far as you like. I'm not interested in your personal life.

It was cosplay drama anyway; not furry drama. Not sure which is harder to watch; both are pretty popcorn worthy.

Ooooh god, briefly tried to imagine trying to wear a fursuit in the middle of a 100+ heatwave. How do people pull that off without meeting darwin en mass? Imagine the smell!

Yes, this happened. No, we have no clue who the hell these assholes are.

Further info on the BBQ event, it was also a fundraiser for the squad that was hosting it, several members of which are furries. This even had been going on for years, and was a fairly major regional thing.

All dead and gone now because two farktards thought it'd be funny to hump each other in suit in public. I ever find out for certain who these guys are, I'll be doing all I can do make certain that they'll not find a happy welcome within the fandom elsewhere.

On a happier note....

What? Of course people have been skullfarked and survived! It happens all the time. What do you think people do when they become Neurosurgeons, after all?

Heard about this. Heard it happened weeks ago and that the actual accusation was BS. Also heard someone was raising money for a fire department that got shat on because of this but that the fund was a scam and and people are coming up left and right to complain about ulterior motives and persecution and oh no I've gone crosseyed.

It's not such a huge jump from Cosplay to Fursuits, y'know.

Not really. People who dress up as Cammy or Goku also dress up as giant humanoid dogs.

Furries, for the most part, feel that they're part animal in some way, like they're an animal soul trapped in a human body, or are under the guidance of some spirit animal, something like that. Dressing as an animal brings them closer to what they feel they are. Nobody who dresses like Solid Snake, Sailor Moon, or Captain Picard thinks they are that character.

Someone needs to look up Otakukin. Some people really do, for whatever bizarre reason think they're actually some anime/whatever character. Or they think they're married to the character on the astral plane. Or some other combination that makes no sense.

Your description of furries fits more with "otherkin" than it does most furries from my experience dealing with them. Otherkin are a subculture within the furry ven diagram (sharing overlap with the anime bubble to make otakukin). I think most typical furries just think their characters are cool avatars much the way a MMO char might be a representation of yourself online if you don't want guildmates creeping your Facebook, etc.

You're about 110% wrong here. Lots of cosplayers feel a special connection to the character. Others would model fursuits just to dress up.

Look up "waifu" if you really want to sleep poorly tonight.

Hell, I've heard the spirit animal guide thing, but it was from the hippie-ish types I mentioned in my previous post. I just assumed it was more philosophical (Isn't it cool how Critter X just exists and does what it does kind of thing) rather than some weird-ass religion (or ass-religion for those of you who know the XKCD joke).

I'll ask this because I don't know: Does the fur community hold that belief (and if so, to what degree) or was it just me meeting a couple of screwballs?

The Staff from the FurBQ previously admitted what happened.

"Follow-Up To NJ FurBQ Post from last week...

By razor_wulff, 5 hours ago

YEA ..MY GROUPS! -->
Yes folks... everything you have been hearing is true. The event will no longer happen.

Here are the items we can release regarding the decision:

Yes, there is graphic photographic evidence of "inappropriate fursuit extra-curriculars" taking place on a vehicle, in front of the building in broad daylight during the BBQ. There were kids and a town council member who witnessed this. The pictures were filed at a PUBLIC town council meeting and are now being investigated by the Mayor, Chief of Police, and the squad.

NO we cannot and will not move the event somewhere else. NJ FurBQ is NO MORE. So please don't ask anymore.

YES there may be some legal repercussions that may happen to the 2 parties involved.

For those of you who think that this is "no big deal"... think about this for a second: 1) Furry as a whole is now publicly in the limelight due to this event. I can assure you that this area will be pretty much devoid of furry events...simply because no one will house our events anymore. The EMS and Fire community is small enough that word of this has spread like wildfire in the neighboring communities. 2) Tony is a Lieutenant and Trustee at the Squad... it's possible he may lose his job because of these two idiots... 3) Shortwave, myself, and Aeon also have jobs that could be affected by this as well.

The Twin "W" Rescue squad was punished because of the actions of these two individuals... because they were the host venue and they bear the town's name. Not only were they the subject of humiliation at a public town meeting but $55,000 was stripped from their annual budget and they are no longer recieving the "go ahead" to order 2 new ambulances...which the squad was pressing for in order to remain in service.

So furries... you've done it again (at least 2 of you). Only this time you took our charity and instead of being the heroes and donating $600 so they could buy new equipment ...we've cost them almost $280,000 (2 ambulances + 55,000). You may have possibly cost up to 5 people their jobs, you've smeared the reputation of furry further into the mud, and pretty much pissed off AT MINIMUM 263 people who rightfully enjoy the FurBQ every year....just so you can blow a load on a car hood. Absolutely disgraceful....and I really hope the town prosecutes the shiat out of you for whatever they can.

That is all I am saying about this.... be on the lookout for posts from Shrotwave and Tony as well.... only I don't think theirs will be as "nice".

Thanks a lot... you 2 should be ashamed and I really hope I don't ever find out who it is."

Hey, assholes. Learn a thing or two:

"And that means, of course, that something which we might call hedonic opportunity cost is seldom far from my consciousness. Our lives are not so good, not even close to so good, that we can afford to throw away pleasures, should fortune put the opportunity of achieving any into our grasp. There is a gem of bitter wisdom offered up by Silenus to Midas, a gem unearthed by Plutarch and given its most noble setting by Nietzsche in his Birth of Tragedy. It is this: that for human beings the best thing is not to be born at all, and the second best thing is, if one has been born, to die as soon as possible. That life might be more a burden than a benefit, that it might even be a misfortune ever to have come into existence, is too close to the truth as it is, as the philosopher David Benatar has pointed out in a series of not-enough-attended-to arguments. We need to do as well as we can. Let us not be so foolish as to throw away pleasure." - A Thaumatophile Manifesto (NSFW)

Give people respect, even if you don't like their kinks, then maybe everyone can enjoy their kinks and find some iota of happiness in this world. There's no need to make it worse by harassing them... you yammering shiatbags.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthropomorphism

As a literary device, anthropomorphism is strongly associated with art and storytelling where it has ancient roots. Most cultures possess a long-standing fable tradition with anthropomorphised animals as characters that can stand as commonly recognised types of human behavior. In contrast to this, conventional Western science, as well as such religious doctrines as the Christian Great Chain of Being propound the opposite, anthropocentric belief that animals, plants and non-living things, unlike humans, lack spiritual and mental attributes, immortal souls, and anything other than relatively limited awareness.
