One thing about the internet is that it's given pretentious little snots far more access to public exposure than they used to have.

Throw in thesaurus.com and you've got an erudite little bastard who still doesn't make sense.

I'm half Cherokee and half Irish decent. If it gets brought up that I'm part Native American or someone comments on my features, then I get the people who have to tell you how much Indian they are. It really gets in my craw when people go "but he's full blooded Indian!" when talking about a friend or family member who is as white as the driven snow with blue eyes and blonde hair. Oh, but he "dresses like an Indian"... so I guess that makes them legit. (?????)

What's even worse is when they just try to justify it by telling lies. Like, "Oh hey, they had and unknown faction with blonde haired blue eye people of X Indian tribe". What? Do you think I'm stupid? (GENETICS! WHAT ARE THEY?)

The point is, people like this -- whether they think they are a little Asian school girl or some American Native -- they identify and say they are these things because they want to be "exotic". They want people to pay attention to them for being different. Nothing more.

Sorry your ancestor wasn't smart enough to fark someone with a little brown in their blood. Not my problem. Just stop acting like you are something you are not. There should be no shame for being who you are.

It's absolutely a troll, which is why it sounds so completely pants-sh*ttingly retarded. Transethnicism isn't a real thing -- at least not in this way -- and by comparing to transgender/sexualism it serves no purpose other than to belittle the real struggles associated with those issues. Trolololo.

Kind of an aside from the actual topic of the thread, but there was actually pretty regular, albeit infrequent, confirmed contact between western Europe and the east coast of the Americas since like the 500s or so, and loads of contact predating the US. There are some Roman-style boats in the gulf of Mexico, a couple old colonies from Norse explorers, some less definite stuff with the Egyptians, and so on. During the colonial period, as well, there were loads of colonies that just outright failed and were absorbed into the surrounding tribes.

Long story short, by the time the tribes started keeping genealogies (the 1800s or so at earliest) there were in fact plenty of blue-eye and blonde-hair genes floating around the local gene pool even if there weren't any in the 12000s BCE when their precursors wandered over from eastern Russia.

Went the other way as well, once the European colonies started actually working out a lot of the eastern nations just shrugged and joined right in. Most people whose families come from the east coast/new England in the early 1800s or earlier have more than a bit of local blood in 'em.

//Not sure why we care, all indications were that the local tribes were basically the same warring, murdering, mysogynist, slave-trading bastards as the European nations for the most part. Only real difference was that the plague years weakened them enough that they were also losers once the colonists figured out how to work the local crops. Not seeing the big point of ethnic pride there.

Eh, I vote we leave him alone with his stuff but also don't pay any particular attention to him, just like furries, BDSM people, and married people. Just because I don't particularly sympathize with their compulsions and find them weird doesn't make it polite to point that out in a mocking fashion.

So no point in either approving or disapproving here, the appropriate response is to simply not care. Unless you're a census taker and feel he's wasting your time, I guess.

//To be fair to the guy in TFA, most transgendered guys just wear dresses and makeup and shiat, which is simply cultural appropriation and has nothing to do with actually being female either.
//Your personal conflicts with your identity, so long as they don't actually involve interfering with other people's physical welfare, are only a problem to the extent that you think they're a problem. My opinion doesn't count, really.

Transethnicity does actually exist, just not in the way that the idiot in the article is using it.

The sociological concept of transethnicity can exist in complicated instances of cross-racial adoption and other selectively unique situations. It, however, isn't something people typically identify as. It's a name to explain a phenomena that exists within the complexity of culture.

Yeah I always get annoyed by this. I find a lot of people think that natives were either a ) magical pacifists who could talk to the earth or b) child sacrificing heathens. Reality is boring though and requires actual reading.

So an autistic teen becomes a Koreaophile(?) and decides she should have been born Korean?

Yeah... I don't think so. Not anymore than playing with Barbies makes a guy transexual.

I know what all those words are except for demiromantic. Is that bad?

She only wants flowers half the time. Except you need to guess which half is the correct half. And if you guess wrong, it's werepanther-clawin' time.

Actually...

autistic: no social skills
pangender: she's, what, male, female, eunuch and everything in between?
asexual: doesn't want your cock
demiromantic: wants you to spoil her (sometimes)
trans-asian: thinks she's Korean
cat otherkin: thinks she's a goddamn tabby.

So, in summary, she's a thoroughly confused individual who will accept a half-assed effort into romance, but won't reward you with sex.

/bet she's got pointy knees, too

"...cultural appropriation is of course a bad thing. but in the case of transethnic beings, following the customs of a culture that does not correspond to their birth ethnicity is not cultural appropriation! to say so would be like saying male-to-female transgender beings are appropriating the struggle of womyn; that is, absolutely wrong and offensive.

the one thing i would like beings to understand is that transethnicity is real and it has real effects on beings' lives. too many beings seem not to understand that."

The stupid, it hurts.

Yes, it is simply that, cultural appropriation. Just because the "label" is distasteful and insulting to you, "Prince Koyangi," doesn't mean it isn't true. You're a wannabe who also wants to be special.

As far as I can see, "transethnicity," if it must exist, would have to be something like -- oh yes, pretty much what it says in the last penultimate paragraph of TFA.

And of course it has nothing to do with transgender issues. What a thoroughly shortsighted and disingenuous proposition.

I concur. I think the autism angle explains a lot, actually. But it still reads like a Weird Al song. The one with transsexual Nazi Eskimos.

I don't believe it's a real thing, period. its all in head. However, passing is as old as the hills. When the 'oppressed' do it, it's assimilation. So this only makes a kind of news when the alleged dominant culture is assimilated into an 'oppressed' one, right?

Transethnicism........... the millenials version of wiggerdom. the dominant culture is not supposed to want to assimilate into a lesser culture. (or whatever asians use when talking shiat about other asians, ie the weird ass fight between Japanese and Chinese) except as a passing fancy to grow out of. What's the asian-on-asian equivalent of a banana?

Usually, I am all too happy to refer to someone with their preferred pronoun (or default to "it" when not sure).

In this particular case though, this farker is asking for so many concessions that I want to figure out exactly what their biological sex is so I can use that just to spite them.
