No sir. It was Aunt Bea's pickles. Or "kerosene cucumbers", as barney called them.

I heard Aunt Bea was a real biatch behind the scenes. Don't let television fool you, kids.

Was surprised to learn Jim Nabors is still alive, making him probably the eldest surviving cast member.

Via Freepville-To: Semper911; All
Well, I used to have a soft spot for "Sheriff Taylor", but after the Obamacare debacle was passed with Andy Griffith leading the cheering for it, I saw a different person.

Griffith was a total communist and hated this country. He was a bitter resentful person as Libs usually are.

He was wasting air that someone else deserved.

I won't miss him in the least.

Good thing this tea bagger is not bitter at all.

He shattered their image of him. I mean, he had a show for 20 years in a town where minorities might visit, but they sure as hell don't live there.

The freeps thought they had one of their own.

FTFA: Dare County Sheriff J.D. "Doug" Doughtie told WAVY.com Griffith passed away around 7 a.m.

"He has been laid to rest on his beloved Roanoke Island," the family's statement read. CNN is reporting Griffith was buried on his farm during a private service with his family at 11:30 a.m.

It seems crazy to me that they had him six feet under within five hours of him passing. What are they trying to hide?

Tsar_Bomba1: Met him years ago during the height of Matlock.

He was quite the grumpy mother f*cker. Didn't want to talk at all about The Andy Griffith Show on set.

ClassicLantern: I met Andy and Jerry Van Dyke on the set of "the Headmaster" in 1970. Had the same experience as you. He was a total asshole to everyone on the set. That day I learned the person can be 180 degrees from the character. Jerry, on the other hand, was exactly the same on and off camera. He was a hoot.

Sure, celebrities are not always as nice (or as rapey, or as smart, or as dumb, or as whatever) as the characters they're associated with. But by the time he got to Matlock, Griffith had already had half a lifetime of people losing their shiat because Sheriff Taylor just walked into the room. This isn't someone where you nudge the guy next to you and say, "Hey, check it out, that's Ben Vereen." You just know that every single person he ever met who owned a TV between 1950 and 1980 went running up to him saying ZOMG IT'S HIM IT'S ANDY IT'S SHERIFF FREAKING TAYLOR WOOOOOOO!" and hugging him because his character would be cool with it. That shiat has to get old.

So I'm going to go ahead and say it's okay with me if he was a grumpy motherf*cker about it. Especially on the set of a different show.

Degenz: So now the modmins are all officially mouth-breathing twerps?

I'm rather surprised a group of people such as Farkers, who pride themselves on every facet of the media, would denigrate what is unquestionably an actor associated with one of the best television shows of all time. Yes, we all know the farking morons who put the tea baggers in charge want to return to the Leave it to Beaver days when lynchings of blacks and all other manner of stupidity was condoned.

But don't lay your anger on the backs of those who were pioneers in the the industry and helped make it all successful. Without them you wouldn't have your DWTS and countless zombie/vampire related shiat you love. What is on TV today is trash and that's because they are appealing to you, the morons who will do exactly as George Costanza said you would...watch it because it's on TV.

Heh, no, you're correct, they *are* pickles! Barney Fife just derisively calls them "kerosene cucumbers" at some point.

But I love that episode... and anything involving Ernest T. Bass.

And let's not forget the dynamite goat!

Pathman: it really was good...

The black-and-white ones in particular.

The color episodes aren't *bad,* but they aren't anywhere near as good as the black-and-white ones.

It has to do with a lot more than the absence of Barney Fife. I don't know, it just seems like the character of Andy Taylor is grouchier and more irritable in the color episodes. He didn't seem to take things in stride like in the black-and-white eps.

*shrugs*

Your mileage may vary, of course.

Still, a truly wonderful show, and proof that they don't make 'em like they used to.
