Zoomaster: I have the box set, you are correct sir (or Mam), I just made a quick comment.

/funny episode

Heh, no, you're correct, they *are* pickles! Barney Fife just derisively calls them "kerosene cucumbers" at some point.

But I love that episode... and anything involving Ernest T. Bass.

And let's not forget the dynamite goat!

Pathman: it really was good...

The black-and-white ones in particular.

The color episodes aren't *bad,* but they aren't anywhere near as good as the black-and-white ones.

It has to do with a lot more than the absence of Barney Fife. I don't know, it just seems like the character of Andy Taylor is grouchier and more irritable in the color episodes. He didn't seem to take things in stride like in the black-and-white eps.

*shrugs*

Your mileage may vary, of course.

Still, a truly wonderful show, and proof that they don't make 'em like they used to.

Not Andy but Barney but still funny

I got a uvula, you got a uvula, all God's children got a uvula

I also liked how the children on tv shows back then were treated like kids and not like mini adults.

Hah!

One of my favorite Barney Fife moments:

"Here at The Rock, we have two basic rules. Memorize them so you can say them in your sleep. Rule One: Obey all rules! Second, do not write on the walls...as it takes a lot of work...to erase writing...off of walls!"

Wow. Buried 5 hours after he died. It would seem that he knew how to go with just as much class and humility as he lived. No drug problems. No taste for little boys. No need for a huge opulent funeral, with everybody white who was anybody white making a big fuss over him.

Truly a class act.

One of the best TV shows. A top-notch blend of humor and pathos.

On a quick re-read of TFA, I've come to the conclusion that Griffith didn't die at 7 a.m. and get plowed under less than six hours later. The 7 a.m. report was when the local sheriff told the news that he had passed. Evidently he died "early Tuesday morning," which could be anything after midnight. More likely, the sheriff held the news on the request of the family.

This is a really nostalgic show for me, despite being born in 1985. This was pretty much the only show that my grandparents would let me watch when I stayed with them, and I made a lot of memories spending time with them.

It's a testament to Griffith's skill that, even though the world has changed in countless ways over the last fifty-some years, the show is still both funny and remarkably relevant.

Griffith's character had a very rare combination of humor, patience, and common sense that is all too uncommon in the world, especially with authority figures.

Yeah, it's an idyllic world that ignored a lot of the real-life social problems around it...but it wasn't a documentary, nor did it portray itself as anything other than entertainment.

Yeah, I'm not exactly jumping on the "ZOMG BRILLIANT HEADLINES" wagon, either.

Dude, you're not appreciating the gravity of the situation. A random stranger on the internet called you names behind your back and disagrees with you! Will you be OK? If you feel like you might hurt yourself, there are people that want to help. Please, give life a chance.
