"Constantine Greven, 40, of 26 Washington St."

"The woman told police she had been riding her bike down Washington Street when she noticed Greven"

I guess we ride by houses where ex-boyfriends live after having restraining orders issued against them. Hmm...

2012-07-03 02:08:30 PM

what_now: The alleged victim, who had an active restraining order against Greven that ended today, chose not to renew the order during a District Court hearing Monday.

Wait...what?

It goes with this:

The woman told police she had been riding her bike down Washington Street when she noticed Greven, with whom she had an "on and off" two-year relationship, the report said. Greven went inside and retrieved the knife, and then "swung it wildly, nearly missing her and her bike."

It makes it sound like she went by his place. WTF? You know he's a douchebag abuser. STAY AWAY.

trappedspirit: It was a miss, but not one of those missed by a mile kind of misses, but rather a near miss.

I ran into my girlfriend the other day.
I backed up to make sure I hit her.

I miss her sometimes.

How many stories on fark about a women being killed by an estranged, spouse, boyfirend, girldfriend, whatever ended with "And she had a restraining order against the person"? It seems to piss them off more.

Not only this, but the guy was denied bail. She would have had to come back every few months to keep the restraining order and this guy isn't going anywhere. The restraining order didn't stop this guy from hunting her down with a knife into a police station. If that didn't stop him what are the chances that a legal order is going to do it?

I think its mostly so the cops can arrest him immediately whether they catch him assaulting her or not.

It's about a mile from this guys house to the Police station. She couldn't out pace this guy on a bike? Or did she go on foot once the guy had a knife, and going full Darwin in the process?

There is a lot more to this story than appears in that article.

Catch him where? In jail? He was denied bail. He isn't going anywhere. He is getting out anytime soon. I bet the judge explained this all to her, also letting her know she can renew it if he ever get's released. You seem to think there isn't a cost or hassle associated in maintaining a protective order.

It does seem to have that affect; but it's still an important part of the process. The cops come to you quicker when you have to call them and the consequences for violating them tack on for of an appropriate sentence, especially if they're on probation or parole for an assault against you. I really want to know this woman's reasoning for not renewing. I don't farking understand.

Agreed. The only reasonable thing to do would be to put his arse in jail. I know it sounds crazy, right?

From TFA: Therrien radioed for help, then grabbed Greven's right arm and "delivered several knee strikes to his midsection" until he dropped the knife, the report said.

Officer, Therrien, if you're ever in my neighborhood, drop by for a cold beer. On me. That's some fine police work, Lou.

this was the quote from the report. blame the cops for the grammar, not the author of the article. cops are not known to be the greatest at writing.

BurnShrike: Greven went inside and retrieved the knife, and then "swung it wildly, nearly missing her and her bike."

So he hit her. A near miss is a hit.

"Today is a good day to die. I'm not going back to jail, someone is going to die,"

And promptly followed her into a jail. (Okay fine, not a real jail, but they still have holding cells)

First thing I thought of when I RTFA. .

I bet he isn't going to get butfarked in prison, either.

It's a bonus that this happened in Lynn. Now out yourself, subby, so we can ride the train and randomly ejaculate on passengers, as is the tradition in the setting of sunny Northeast Massachusetts.

spentmiles: I don't give a fark about a restraining order. If I'm in love with a woman, then no stupid piece of bureaucratic shiat paper is going to keep me away from her. I've found that women get overwhelmed with all the attention I want to give them -- calling them to see where they are, testing them to make sure they're faithful, toughening them up emotionally and physically. Sometimes they just need to get away for a little while, which makes my cabin upstate a perfect place for them to unwind. Don't get me wrong - I'm not some sort of possessive maniac. If she wants to leave, and proves it to me, then I will let her go, though no one will ever love her and she's going to be miserable without me.

We've all missed the important part here: this is Lynn.

As in LYNN. It's a hole. The Blue Line stops at the border so the gangs won't steal the live overhead wires.

Possessive dude with several brands of satellite dish on the house, according to Google Street View? He's a treat and he owes Comcast money. Total keeper.

Exactly what I was thinking/came here to say. WTF is wrong with this wench? I know TROs aren't made of kevlar or some super secret futuristic protective bubble, but having one could keep him in jail longer when he pulls future shenanigans. If he gets out of jail before she gets smart and just moves.

I think she enjoys being the alleged victim.

Okay, forgiven. I was puzzled at first. I thought I was going to read a story about a guy chasing his girlfriend that escaped from prison to the police station. Then I realized it was either missing the phrase "that moment when:" or a comma.

I used to live RIGHT where this happened -- Washington Street, Lynn, right near the police station. It's a crappy area with drug dealers up and down the street. Yea, right near the police station.

My apt. got broken into, our lives were threatened and our car was smashed up for calling the police station asking for help with all the drug dealers hanging around near our apt. building. Not like I had much choice. I was living in assisted housing at the time as a young woman and that is what I got.

Absolutely. Especially now that he has shown her how much he really Looooooves her. The "off again" parts are probably nearly the durations of the restraining orders.
