FX is allowed a big screw up. They've had The Shield, Damages, Rescue Me, and now Justified. Some of the best dramas ever made. I'm sure it hurts a lot less with their other successes.

Why buy it? I looked around at my DVDs and I very rarely watch them a 2nd time......A few of them I do, but how many times can I watch a show?

SOA is a good show, at least the first couple of seasons are, but I wouldn't even think of buying it o DVD. It's not even the cost that deters me - it would just take up space on my shelf.

I have bought 20 full or up to date tv shows on dvd and i watch a lot of them sometimes 2, times

I've seen The Wire 4 times. I'm on my 3rd viewing of The Shield. Seen Lost 2 times. Deadwood 3 times. Dexter 3 times. Plan on watching Smallville for my 2nd time after I finish the Shield and then 24 again. I spend most of my free money on tv dvd shows since I have no other vices.

Maybe because it looked like a turd at first?

I can't wait until July 15th.

Has anybody seen Longmire? It is supposed to be pretty good, and it was just picked up for a second season.

Makes sense that they were worried that they would be typecasting their network.

At the start of the season someone gets melted in a bathtub and they do a pretty pisspoor job of it. How could you not pick it up from just that!

If I hadn't been at a friend's house watching the first episode I probably wouldn't have ever watched the show. "Dying high school teacher turns meth dealer in Arizona," doesn't sound like my thing. So glad I did though, can't wait for this season, almost here!

I have. It's very good. Lou Diamond Phillips does a great job too. My mother is a big fan of the Longmire novels so she insisted I record them for her. they're really good.

Cool, I am glad to hear it. I just right now started the 1st episode on my DVR. I needed a new show to watch.

It's no "Justified," but "Longmire" is still pretty good.

That first episode is great. I actually laughed during the last episode when I realized he still hasn't fixed the damage from rolling his truck in the first episode. It also amuses me to think there must be a Longmire calling tree or something. He doesn't have a cellphone and yet people always seem to manage to get a hold of him by calling someone he's around. "It's for you."

Yeah I'm 21 minutes into it, pausing here and there to do other things ( you know how it is) and the Bronco is back on its wheels. This looks like an enjoyable show.

It's a good, honest crime show. It's not flashy or sensationalized. I don't know why but it kind of reminds me of "Murder, She Wrote". There's a crime. Things aren't ever what they seem. it's a mystery, and it's interesting how Longmire unravels it, usually through keen deduction.

So, back to Breaking Bad, where the hell is this season going to take us? I really don't know where the show goes from here, I'm expecting Mike and maybe chemist dude who may or may not have been killed.

I wanna see Hank get in on the drug biz and make some bank.

ontariolightning: Walt is going to kill Saul.. How evil

He was already gonna do that. Why would he do it now?

They were scaring Saul in season 2. They werent capable of straight up murder back then. Walt is now though.

When Walt kills Saul we will all hate him
he will truly be the villian

He's been been a villain when he killed his first drug dealer in the basement.

Darth_Lukecash: He's been been a villain when he killed his first drug dealer in the basement.

I think the reveal at the end of the final episode last season was when I saw him finally becoming a true villain. Or possibly when he watched what's her face choking and left her to die.

I noticed they used the word "showrunner" in that article, referring to producer Vince Gilligan.

In the last week I've seen that word three times, and I don't think I've ever seen it before.

New buzzword? Is it just me?

2012-07-03 06:28:50 AM
'Showrunners' have been a thing for a while, but they've gotten more recognition post-The Sopranos. It's just an 'inside baseball' term that has seeped into the broader culture gradually as more creators have established a recognizable 'brand'

2012-07-03 07:19:01 AM
I like showrunner as a term, it has a germanic quality about it by just taking on a verb to a noun and very utilitarian.

I would say it started being a popular term outside TV circles during Lost. Damon Lindelof was a creator but Carlton Cuse wasn't so while they were both incharge it was an easy way of defining them so when so many articles were written they were tagged as showrunnners.

Gore is a poor substitution for making me care whether the characters I'm supposed to care about live or die.

I made it five episodes. I don't think it's a bad series, I'll only acknowledge that it's not for me.

Why do people keep acting like the shield is a good television show? After watching the wire its difficult to even slog through an episode of that crap.

Walt will get his come up ants. Either Mike or Hank will take him down. Walt has gotten progressively more and more unlikable/unhinged so that the audience will want to see him killed.

Mentat: Because if you knew what was going to happen in the future, decisions would be really easy?

Exactly. I bet every network has a story about a hit show they passed on. HBO passed on Mad Men and I think it was ABC that passed on the original CSI back in the day and when CBS picked it up it ended up being #1 in the ratings for a multiple seasons.

"We had three dramas with male antiheroes and we looked at that script and said, 'Okay, so here's a fourth male antihero,'" Landgraf recalled. "The question was: 'Are we defining FX as the male antihero network and is that a big enough tent?'"

So they passed, then picked up Justified and Sons of Anarchy. I guess somewhere in that brief time frame they got totally cool with their role in the cosmos.

And yet the more unlikable he becomes, the more i like him. Or maybe I just like idea of the character more. Not sure, but what i do know is that I burned through the first four seasons in about 2 weeks after the last one ended, so the wait for 5 to start has been brutal.

there's Gus' 'friends' back in Argentina (possibly amigos de Pinochet)
and the Austrians who funded the laundry/lab
who will be looking for different kinds of payback

Because it is. Top 5 shows of all time, and it has the best finale of any series, ever.
