Yeah. Doesn't Sony still own the rights? Anyway, the fact that it has:
1. Technological web shooters
2. Gwen Stacy as his first girl friend
3. Captain Stacy
4. The Lizard
has me excited. Not too excited with how The Lizard looks or how he gets bitten but whatever.

Jon Stewart had the best question for Dennis Leary on The Daily Show: "why did they cast you in this one? Weren't you the Green Goblin in the original?"

That was so awesome. Especially Leary sympathizing for Dafoe getting Dumbo Drop somewhere.

6. I keep getting his and supermans origin confused. Spiderman was the one that got his powers from a gama bomb? Or was that Batman?

If they do not tell me the origin story within the first 5 minutes of a comic book movie I am lost for the entire film.

I laughed way, way too hard at that Dumbo Drop joke.

(ANd for the record, I liked the organic web shooters. And Kirsten Dunst.)

She's cute. But she's no Emma Stone, especially when it comes to being an actress. Stone has a hell of a lot more potential she's yet to let flush down the drain.

I started out entirely 'meh' on this. To the point it barely warranted a "I'll Netflix it." But the idea has grown on me, and I think the visuals look fantastic.

It's a small thing to most people, but I farking love the fact Spider-Man is actually doing Spider-Man shiat in the trailers. Climbing up buildings, crawling on ceilings, shiat like that. Obviously the CGI was what it was in the first run, but visually this reboot looks good, and I'm curious to see what kind of origin story they are doing.

Bottom line: If they are doing a reboot and sticking with an origin story to kick it off I have to at least give them props for trying out something new.

The only time I'm interested in seeing an origin story is when I don't know how the character, or characters, got their powers.

For me, at this point any Spiderman movie should just start with him already living his Spiderman life. I just want to see him doing Spiderman stuff, I don't care to see Parker in high school again.

Pretty much. Spider-Man is supposed to be one of the biggest smart-asses in the Marvel Universe. His taunting is basically part of his fighting style, by driving his opponents into a blind rage. Tobey Maguire seemed like he could barely stay awake.

Came to say this. I was reading a pretty poor review in the paper today and the guy wondered multiple times why this reboot was necessary so soon. How do you get to be a movie reviewer in a metropolitan newspaper without knowing anything about Sony's deal with Marvel?

I don't blame Dunst nearly as much as I blame the writers for the Mary Jane character in those movies. She was the most unsympathetic, annoying, petulant, selfish people I've ever seen in a film and we're supposed to hope Spidey saves her from the car in the third movie?

Gwen Stacy's character in the new movie looks infinitely more pleasant.

2012-07-02 06:40:58 PM
I'll hopefully catch it in the theater because I'm a bit interested to see if Webb can continue his momentum from 500 Days of Summer. Honestly, Raimi's movies were never any good (first one easily being the strongest), and no amount of boycotting is going to put Spiderman back in Marvel's hands. Let's just hope Webb gets it right this time around.

Exactly. How on Earth are we supposed to like a chick that strings along both Peter and Harry, leaves another dude standing at the altar, after becoming engaged to him basically to spite Peter. Fark, she's actually working on the wedding invites at one point with her fiance and fantasizing about Spider-Man, while later agreeing to meet with Peter to check one last time if he might be down with hooking up with her...while she's engaged.

Isn't that sweet!

I can't really rehash whatever the fark she did in 3 since I've tried to block all memory of that film from my mind forever, but I'm certain it wasn't a step up. The only thing that stands out is having Peter haul off and go Ike Turner on her ass while she's at work...then agreeing to go back to him.

Nothing against Dunst, but no actress could have made that character likable.

Ok, putting my own bias of wanting this movie to fail so the right go back to Marvel aside. The one thing in the trailers that makes me not want to see the movie is the line something like "Do you really think what happened to you was an accident?". Yes, Peter Parker is supposed to be an accident, there was no grand scheme to give him spider powers, and to try to change that cheapens the regular guy appeal of the character.

2012-07-02 08:07:08 PM
FTFA: "For comics fans especially... we all know what's coming. Stacy was basically crammed into the third movie, so the vast sea of people who have just seen the movies have no idea what we know is happening, but it sets a bit of a melancholy tone for "Amazing" simply because the clock is ticking"

Anyone else hone in on the bridge scenes in the trailers?

I'm not sure I get the logic here. How does Parker being bit 'on purpose' as the part of someone else's grand scheme make him any less of a regular guy? It's clear by the trailers he's still the geeky weakling that's picked on in school. It doesn't negate anything that happens prior to the bite, and clearly by the trailer they appear to be trying to have him still be the snarky Spider-Man most fans want after the bite.

They might be changing the root of the origin story, but they aren't changing the character. And frankly, after seeing the same origin story played out over and over, if they want to go a little 'Nolan' on this one and update it a little while adding some intrigue then right on.

As well as creating a lemon that can burn your house down... Which he most likely used on the producers and casting directer for not getting his J.J. part back.
