Let's play "spot the skank!"

The one of the far right must have caused some grief for people in 1939. With Rhett Butler saying "damn" and revealing swimwear on the rise, the older generation must have thought society was coming to an end.

Not gonna post the vintage pics of a certain Pennsylvania town's, July 4th 1863, Independence Day's event.

Uh, uh...not gonna do it.

My grandparents were living in Rockaway in '46. I will have to do some searching when I get home.

"As presented by the Daily Mail?"

Don't think of the Daily Mail as a newspaper.

They are a news aggregator, like FARK, Reddit, DIGG, Huffington Post.

The Daily Mail takes a look at one of the silly holidays of their former rebellious colonial subjects.

The older generation in any set of generations always thinks that. They project their increasingly obvious mortality upon the world around them, usually at the younger in a subconscious act of envy.

If the States can go nuts over Cinco de Mayo, why can't the Brits go crazy over 4th of July? Because let's face it, who doesn't like fireworks?

They do have a 4th of July in England, too. Just so you know.

Take a look at the comments for this link if you dare. Somehow, someone managed to make it about the Supreme Court causing "the biggest tax hike in American history".

Well, see, it's because of the Liberals and the Fartbama Administration, who have banned all things patriotic as a "hate crime".

They were using '75's fireworks, since color came out in '76. Color must came out since '76 was the first year MI used more than two colors on license plates. It was nice of them to celebrate my birth like that and they figured to use the old stuff before I got to see it.

What cost $10 in 1939 would cost $155.28 in 2010.

Love the Daily Mail, even US stories are more thoroughly covered than US news publications. And they always have lots and lots of pictures....crime scenes, suspects, suspects parents, victims, etc...

The entire concept of that photo was the change in fashion over the years. What's odd is the existence of what's essentially a bikini in 1939. That style didn't take off until the mid-50s.

McDonald's didn't become a franchise until 1955.

In 1946, after 17 years of crushing Depression followed by world war rationing? Those are 1929's fat people. All the skinny people from 1929 starved to death.

What's odd about a fairly accurate prediction of trends into the future?

I guess they have finally gotten over the fact that Independence Day pretty much represents a great big FU from the United States to Britain.

Interesting to compare the Rockaway Beach picture with the Jones Beach one. Looks like Robert Moses' plan worked!!!
