Despite having the opportunity to start for the majority of the season in 2010, he was not able to make good use of the opportunity to stand out at linebacker. In 2011, he was once again bumped down to backup status and was nearly invisible on the field.

Uh, except that he is a major force on special teams.

I'm assuming that subby meant the punter on the list? It's the only position in football whose use actually makes your team less likely to win over the long run even if he does his job perfectly.

With backup quarterback John Skelton nipping at Kolb's heels for the starting position in training camp this summer, Kolb is approaching do-or-die time. If it turns out that he isn't up to the task, he may become the best-paid bench-warmer in the NFL and certainly the most useless player on the Cardinals roster.

If we miss the playoffs, I wonder if maybe Whiz is even around next year. I'm not saying he's on the hot seat, but......things have not improved at the QB position and Whiz can't stop reminding everyone what a great QB developer he is. He lucked into Warner, benched Warner for Leinart, and lost in the hubbub about Warner's Super Bowl resurgence is that but for Leinart suffering a shoulder injury circa Week 4, Week 6 of the super bowl season, who knows if Warner even becomes a starter?

my point is, the goodwill from the super bowl run is gone. the NFL is the ultimate what have you done for me lately league, and another mediocre season with spotty QB play -- despite all the QBs Whiz has burned through since Warner retried -- I think that will make the 'chise seriously reevaluate where we are going.

Isn't 1 for 32 a pretty good day for bleacher report?

2012-07-02 01:55:39 PM
SF 49ers: Randy Moss

FTA: "The 49ers are looking at Moss with hope that he can help lead a corps of wide receivers that have struggled to come into their own. So far, Moss is playing the part well. "

So, if he's doing the job that the Niners brought him in exclusively to do (mentor the WR's), how is he the most useless player on the team? Because yeah, we *really* need a mentor for the receiving corps

2012-07-02 01:59:10 PM
I hate the bleacherreport like everyone, mostly because it's a prime example of why everyone who thinks having a website with a steady flow of hits aren't a part of the media.

The slide about the Texan's Garrett Graham:

Instead, the Texans turned elsewhere in his own depth chart and announced the promotion of teammate John Casey to starting fullback and starting tight end if two are needed.

That was a big blow for Daniels, who saw limited playing time and only caught one pass for 27 yards in 2011. He will occupy a roster slot as a backup, but he probably won't see much time on the field for a second year in a row.

There are lulz like this in every posting...glad they check and edit their work.

I hope Moss works out, but I've never seen him put any effort into anything that didn't involve a ball being thrown to him.

Di Atribe: It's like that thing where you want to comment on a couple of them, but you don't want to click through the entire slideshow again to see one or two things. So here we go:

Bears: Roberto Garza - He gets Jay Quitler sacked, very useful.

Cowboys: Orlando Scandrick - How is it not Romo? Or does useful until December disqualify him?

Packers: Andrew Quarless - Someone has to shag balls in practice. I would actually argue it is Mike Neal or Anthony Hargrove, but they may not play.

Colts: Jeff Linkenbach - If the Colts are looking to repeat the start from Manning the Greater, then Luck will suck this year.

Jets: Tim Tebow - I really hope there is a Week 6 QB controversy in NY. The coverage will be more awkward and uncomfortable than LeBron's "Decision" with the added bonus of Rex Ryan.

Eagles: Dion Lewis - Honorable mention - Mike Vick's ribs.

49ers: Randy Moss - Not that guy who muffed the playoff punts? Seriously?

OK, I'm not a Tebow fan (as far as his future as a viable NFL QB goes), but even I found his inclusion to be ridiculous. As far as those lovable Cleveland Browns, Ben Watson? Ben Watson is one of the few guys who can actually, y'know, catch the passes thrown his way & he's a decent blocker. His brain might be turning to jello pudding after 3 concussions last year, but that doesn't mean he's useless.

Ya, I noticed a few rookies on this list. Because you know, people who've never proven how useful they are to a team are obviously useless.

\McCorty was craptacular last year, but so was the rest of the guys who were filling in all over the place on defense

I've got no problem with Scandrick being the guy for the Cowboys & I wouldn't have flinched if they'd picked Ball, either. Too bad we don't have Marty B to kick around any more.

Hasselbeck did alright last year for the Titans. It would have been a lot worse if we had started an inexperienced rookie with no backup. Is it as exciting as watching Locker? No, but it was the intelligent safe choice. Is he the most useless? Hardly

He's a rare example of an UNDERpaid Redskin!!

That makes me doubt the rest of that list.

I came here to biatch about them choosing Lorenzo, but you said it way better than I was planning to.

FTFA: "Now he is preparing to start taking a few snaps here and there as a tight end in an effort to find a place on a Redskins team that has never really seemed to need him."

Never seemed to need him? When the team needed an offensive lineman, he played O-line. When they needed a defensive lineman, he played D-line. When they needed a linebacker, he played linebacker. Find me another player in the NFL that could have a team say "we need someone at X position" 3 or 4 times where the player has played all those positions and has been good enough at each to not get cut.

Di, thanks for sparing us from having to click on BR once, let alone 32 times.

Romo is a pretty good quarterback. I mean, he's alright. He's no two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli "Unstoppable" Manning, but he's certainly the second-best quarterback in the division.
Or third. Definitely one of the top three starting QBs in the division.

Mediocre might be streatching a little on the downside but I'd put Romo squarely in between the "not good" and "good" categories. I would absolutely rather have Manning, Manning, Brady, Brees, Rogers, Rivers, Rothlesberger (well, as a player, he's a despicable human being), Vick, Cam Newton, or Matt Stafford than him. So, he's around 10th to 15th or so. I'd lump him in with Schaub, Cutler, and Alex Smith. There's a good chance that either Luck or RG3 will be better than him by the end of the year, so...

yeah, medicore.

pion: meanmutton: Schroedinger's Glory Hole: You may not think Tim Tebow is a starting quarterback but to call him useless on the Jets roster is a dick move.
Gosder Cherlius was spot on though.

Eh, he's the starter for now, he'll probably end up a backup. I'd call that less "useless" and more "under-utilized" or "over-compensated" or just "a bust".

Punt protection is an important position.

I've never heard of a tackle used as a personal protector.

Bleacher report is where people who didn't pass grade 10 can still be sports writers.

jbrocket: People still pay attention to Bleacher Report slideshows??

They missed a sweet opportunity to get 32 clicks out of this...

meanmutton: I'm assuming that subby meant the punter on the list? It's the only position in football whose use actually makes your team less likely to win over the long run even if he does his job perfectly.

you nailed it. definitely no one else stuck out from that list.

He had the 4th highest QBR in the league last year. He was 3rd in completion percentage. He also has the 2nd highest career QBR. Ever.

But don't let actual statistics & numbers & things like "facts" get in the way of your hatred.

RminusQ: Romo is a pretty good quarterback. I mean, he's alright. He's no two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli "Unstoppable" Manning, but he's certainly the second-best quarterback in the division.
Or third. Definitely one of the top three starting QBs in the division.

You were doing so well there at first.... will still need to cuttabiatch next time I see you. Kisses.

Holy shiat, mika. That is so horrible, and yet I still laughed.

Also, a few more of my observations that everyone totally cares about:

a) Di is teh awesomesauce. :D
b) Captain Munnerlyn still has a cool name.
c) Squeezem might not be the best kicker in the league (OK, he is definitely not the best kicker in the league), but he is still adorable. :)

rickythepenguin: With backup quarterback John Skelton nipping at Kolb's heels for the starting position in training camp this summer, Kolb is approaching do-or-die time.

In 100 words or less, explain Andy Reid.

"Hate"? No, I hate Ben Roethlesberger. I don't hate Tony Romo. I just don't think that he is awesome. He's good enough for a team to be a consistent playoff team and good enough that a really strong team around him could take him to the Superbowl but he's not super awesome.

Also, passer rating is an interesting stat -- 15 of the top 25 career passer ratings belong to active players, including a few backups.

I'm not asking you to think he's "awesome." I'm asking you to look at facts & numbers, which will easily tell you that he's not "mediocre."
