Some Bass Playing Guy: The story doesn't make sense. If it were because he wanted to ship the kid off for indoctrination, he wouldn't be giving her custody. Unless, of course, he's got a "secret" (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) the she's holding over his head.

I imagine he isn't GIVING her sole custody.

I never got a gay vibe from Cruise UNTIL he started suing the shait out of anyone who said so. Something about protesting too much...

You don't get rich writing science fiction. If you want to get rich, you start a religion.

Abe Vigoda's Ghost: spentmiles: I love how people rag on Scientology when its members are some of the most prolific and successful members of our society. If you'd actual read some of the literature, it's really a system of personal empowerment and individual growth. If we were of our right minds, we'd erect a granite statue of L. Ron Hubbard in the middle of Times Square. But go on with your flaccid attacks. I'm sure Tom Cruise spends a lot of his time thinking about your miserable existence while he's flying between exotic locations, making millions of dollars, and banging the hottest flight stewards to grace the planet. Go ahead and make a bunch of childish, condescending jokes. I'm positive that neither John or Tom gives two shiats about you buttholes.

Most of these "prolific and successful members of our society", were successful before being recruited into Scientology. Sometimes the people that 'have it all' are still not really happy. That seems to be the most effective time for cults to seek out and recruit new members.
I think Cruise is a bit of a nut job. I also think he's a pretty damn good actor, so I overlook his personal life and just enjoy his movies. But make no mistake about this; Scientology is a cult.

But did they sexually abuse children and cover it up?

Yes. In fact they had an entire Child Rape Facility.
But, they're better at covering it up, they have better lawyers.

The media has a funny way of determining who they talk about. Catholic Church wasn't criticizable, then it became open-season on them. They keep doing bits on Paris Hilton and Snooki, people we have no reason to care about. Scientology, Bilderbergers... still rarely mentioned.

Doesn't Scientology believe there is something special about Suri? Like she is the second coming of Hubbard? Did I read that somewhere or just make it up? Either way, Katie should have known better and gotten out a long time ago, but that is an easy judgement to make about a lot of people in bad situations. I hope she gets support for the shiat storm about to come down on her. I support anyone trying to get her child away from a cult regardless of how rich she is.

This has got to be a troll right? A couple of A-Listers and a few B/C Listers in the ranks of Scientology does not show that everyone in the group are successful. There are too many Scientologists living as basically indentured servants, catering to the whims of their masters and turning over their property, money and lives to those same folks at the top. In other words, the top 1%'s in Scientology are in no way evidence that the rest of the membership is successful. In fact I would suggest that you spend more time looking at the lives of the other 99% you would find a group that as a whole are doing worse than most of their contemporaries.

I've seen that quote as well as a story that Hubbard and Heinlein decided to create their own religions. Hubbard came up with Scientology and Heinlein came up with "Stranger In A Strange Land". Not sure how much stock to put in it, though. Although I want to believe because it makes perfect sense.

I know a guy in Hollywood, he's helping me with marketing scripts. He saw Travolta on the cover of a checkout aisle magazine and said how bad he felt for Travolta not being able to be who he really was, between Hollywood and Scientology. I asked him about Tom Cruise, and he said that Cruise wasn't gay like Travolta-- he might be bisexual, but that Travolta was the one who was really in a bind. (I might have said in a pickle, but the converse would be more true and we don't mention that here.)

A few discussions with this guy made me very glad to be on the outside looking in, rather than be caught up in the Hollywood mainstream. It's brutal on the human soul. unless you can be like Brando and set yourself deliberately apart from the studio mentality and still find work. And that's without the Scientology bs.

She is, okay, this is how I gotta get this guy, this guy's going towards the gay way, I gotta bring him back, I gotta bring him back from the gay way, so I'll do that through subterfuge, I'm gonna dress like a man. All right? That is how she approaches it. Okay, now let me just ask you - I'm gonna digress for two seconds here. I met this girl Amy here, she's like floating around here and everything. Now, she just got divorced, right? All right, but the REAL ending of the movie is when they fight the MIGs at the end, all right? Because he has passed over into the gay way.
