Republicans: whenever God talks to you, whether he tells you to run for office or to invade a country or to oppose people getting medical care He's just farking with you.

So which God given right does prohibiting a company from turning down a patient with a pre-existing condition preclude, Mr. Ryan?

2012-07-02 08:59:02 AM
Paul Ryan has never closely read the Declaration of Independence or never really understood what it refers to. Alternately he has no sense of history other than what he thinks it ought to mean.

Conservatives are not necessarily stupid, but most stupid people are conservatives.

Fine, Paul. Now do what your boss told you to, and render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's.

House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) said Sunday that 'Obamacare' should be repealed because the rights of individuals come from God.

And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. 2Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying:

3"Blessed are the poor in spirit,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4Blessed are those who mourn,
For they shall be comforted.
5Blessed are the meek,
For they shall inherit the earth.

6Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
For they shall be filled.
7Blessed are the merciful,
For they shall obtain mercy.
8Blessed are the pure in heart,
For they shall see God.
9Blessed are the peacemakers,
For they shall be called sons of God.
10Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11"Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. 12Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

I see nothing in there that would make Jesus reject Obamacare.

But Ayn Rand would, and it's getting pretty clear the GOP doesn't actually worship Christ since none of their platform at all conforms to anything Jesus had to say.

There's no religious litmus test for sanity.

A huge red flag, perhaps. But no litmus test.

NOTHING in scripture bars the implementation of Obamacare. In fact, most of the New Testament specifically SUPPORTS healing the sick and helping the poor. What bible are these people reading!?

Shiat man. Mathew is the conservative, pulled punches, version; Luke (chp 6) is much more harsh and direct:

20 And raising his eyes toward his disciples he said: "Blessed are you who are poor, for the kingdom of God is yours.

21Blessed are you who are now hungry, for you will be satisfied.

Blessed are you who are now weeping, for you will laugh.

22Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude and insult you, and denounce your name as evil on account of the Son of Man.

23Rejoice and leap for joy on that day! Behold, your reward will be great in heaven. For their ancestors treated the prophets in the same way.

24But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation.

25But woe to you who are filled now, for you will be hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will grieve and weep.

26Woe to you when all speak well of you, for their ancestors treated the false prophets in this way.

Who the hell knows. I'm wondering if someone photocopied the Supply Side Jesus from Franken's book, put it between a cover that said King James Version, and tricked them all into thinking it was the real deal.

Satanic_Hamster: So we should all ignore the Constitution then, Mr. Ryan?

another really weird aspect about this SCOTUS ruling is watching strict law and order authoritarian Republicans say they're going to simply ignore the law simply because they don't like it. remember - these are the same people who DEMAND that the rest of us immediately comply with laws that WE don't like, and advocate harsh and unyielding punishment for anyone who steps out of line.

If you are an elected official, and at any time you bring up god or your particular religion as a motivation or explanation for your political decision, you should immediately be removed from office with no vote or procedure.

WTF does it matter where rights come from? What's important is that the government must defend those rights, which is what the ACA attempts to do.

The Real Bible: When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, and he will put the sheep at his right hand and the goats at the left. Then the king will say to those at his right hand, 'Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.' Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?' And the king will answer them, 'Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.' Then he will say to those at his left hand, 'You that are accursed, depart from me into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not give me clothing, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.' Then they also will answer, 'Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you?' Then he will answer them, 'Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.' And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

Psalm 72:1-17 (NIV):

1 Endow the king with your justice, O God, the royal son with your righteousness.
2 May he judge your people in righteousness, your afflicted ones with justice.
3 May the mountains bring prosperity to the people, the hills the fruit of righteousness.
4 May he defend the afflicted among the people and save the children of the needy; may he crush the oppressor.
5 May he endure as long as the sun, as long as the moon, through all generations.
6 May he be like rain falling on a mown field, like showers watering the earth.
7 In his days may the righteous flourish and prosperity abound till the moon is no more.
8 May he rule from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth.
9 May the desert tribes bow before him and his enemies lick the dust.
10 May the kings of Tarshish and of distant shores bring tribute to him. May the kings of Sheba and Seba present him gifts.
11 May all kings bow down to him and all nations serve him.
12 For he will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help.
13 He will take pity on the weak and the needy and save the needy from death.
14 He will rescue them from oppression and violence, for precious is their blood in his sight.
15 Long may he live! May gold from Sheba be given him. May people ever pray for him and bless him all day long.
16 May grain abound throughout the land; on the tops of the hills may it sway. May the crops flourish like Lebanon and thrive like the grass of the field.
17 May his name endure forever; may it continue as long as the sun.

In their defense, sort of, the repubs were completely unprepared for the Supreme Court ruling and this sort of flailing will be par for the course until they come up with another consistent justification for letting poor people die.

He created the Declaration of Independence so that His people would not have to live among the barbarians
He created the Constitution so that His people would live according to His will.
He created Liberals to test His people that they would be stronger in their faith to Him

2012-07-02 09:49:22 AM
This is from back in May of this year, but the Catholic Bishops in the US (Ryan is a nominal Catholic remember) slammed his budget proposal as failing a 'basic moral test' when it came to the Catholic social justice agenda of feeding poor people.

Ryan seems to be a 'cafeteria catholic' - he wants to pick and choose what he wants from the Catholic church and call it 'christian'. But you don't get to do that. Christ is 'all or nothing'. either you believe EVERYTHING he said or you aren't a Christian. you help the poor, you heal the sick and you DO NOT JUDGE. ever. thems the rules and the big guy himself spelled it out plain as he could.

so in that respect, I don't think the GOP worship the christian god. they actually reject most of christ's teachings.

Weaver95: What bible are these people reading!?

The Conservative Bible Project is a project utilizing the "best of the public" to render God's word into modern English without liberal translation distortions.

My dream is that one day my own personal philosophies will be revered enough to warrant artificial Biblical support.

If that were only true. In 2003, Bush would have been banished back to his "ranch" playing cowboy and we could have saved a few hundred thousand lives.

Well that's not entirely true, Cheney would be in office and we would have probably done the same things.

I have not, but they seem to be liberals so they probably don't have jobs.
