It is a shame he feels that way.

Neil Peart is just as big a dick about this stuff. I'm never going to ask you for an autograph or a picture, but you came to the nuisance . . . you knew there star-struck fans out there when you chose to be a rock star, and yet you continue to put yourself out in front of the public with your music . . . so man up, smile, take the picture, sign the ticket stub and shut the fark up about it.

In related news,Kristen Stewart has claimed that Tommy Lee is "her f*cking soulmate".....

2012-07-02 12:17:04 PM
The real question here is, who the blue hell is still coming up to Tommy Lee asking for a picture? Goddamn people, high school is over already. At least have the decency to pick up a Chevelle or Foo Fighters CD or something.

Who? I've never heard any other drummers (Neal Peart, Mick Fleetwood, Ringo Starr, etc.) mention this guy...

Actually, reading his letter in its entirety, he's got a valid point, and since a lot of people have all the social graces of a wet fart, I don't blame him in the least for basicially instituting a ban. If it were me, I'd do anything the fans wanted during shows and the associated meet-n-greets while on tour, but outside of that - fark off.

I gotta side with Tommy here. I'm sure he still has fans (I'm not one of them) and they can be downright oblivious when it comes to interacting with him or any celebrity for that matter.

There's a reason they have very long meet/greet sessions at shows and such. It's so you can get those photos.

Those celebrities that people think are rude are probably just fed up with not being able to get to where they're going or finish a meal without being interrupted.

If you see a famous person that you admire, simply give them a "Big fan" and be on your way. You'll usually get a thanks and sometimes more. The only time I've ever not gotten a "Thank you" with a little eye contact from was Paul Moyer.

I get what he's saying. Pictures and autographs are nothing more than to prove to other people that you saw a famous person, and it would be annoying if you're in a restaurant or on the street.

On the other hand, that's the shiat that comes with the job. Deal with it.

2012-07-02 12:50:18 PM
He should knock himself out with his own cock.

2012-07-02 12:53:39 PM
Celebs need to get over themselves (though he hardly qualifies). You want the job then you take the good and bad that comes with it. The moment these people feel ignored they start offing themselves from depression.

Celebritards are like meth - just stay away, you can't win.

The world stopped needing him first when??

He's no Alec Baldwin. Or even Alex Kapranos.

2012-07-02 01:05:34 PM
I can't imagine how hard it is to be over 50, 20 years past your band's prime, and people still making you feel relevant and that you aren't a piece of shiat. I'd be offended too!

2012-07-02 01:37:46 PM
My girlfriend jammed with him one time (not a euphemism ... she's a guitarist ... she was locally "fame-ish" at one time).

And she verified ... he's a total douche.

/Have pictures of the session somewhere
//Really, it's NOT a euphemism

Some are just dicks. I saw Dave Attell at the bar in The Laugh Factory and told the bartender to get him a drink. I just lifted my glass to him and he slammed it down and said "Thanks asshole" in a real pissy tone and walked off. I waited on George Forman's table once and didn't so much as hint that I knew who he was and the only one that was nice was one of his daughters. Even stiffed me on the tip (and before anyone says shiatty waiter, I was chosen cause I was one of the best). Tom Cruise on the other hand tipped me 200 bucks on a 100 tab. Some people handle fame better than others.

You know why you got stiffed dont you?

2012-07-02 01:53:02 PM
If you are a "rock star " and you are playing a gig you are kind of obliged to sign autographs take pictures etc. If some fan drives from Butt fark Iowa and pays to see your show and you may be the only celebrity he or she may ever meet then it is part of the experience for them. However, if you are out to dinner in your civilian life you should expect some level of privacy and distance from your fans.

Ok, his letter came of prickish... but really, why do people want photos with celebrities? Or an autograph (unless you're a collector, I can appreciate that.)

Any celebrity I've met, I've just shook their hand and said hello.

The only one I bothered into a conversation was Anderson Cooper... because I wanted to thank him for his excellent coverage of New Orleans. Then we chatted about the city in general, and he seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say about it. But then I left him alone.

2012-07-02 02:17:48 PM
I bet it's because all his female fans that were hot in the 80's have each had about 10 babies by now and are looking worse for wear.

2012-07-02 02:36:46 PM
I see "washed up and should be grateful anyone still recognizes him" has been covered.

2012-07-02 03:09:19 PM
I met Margot Adler last year...actually got to pick her up from the airport here in Tampa and spend some real time hanging out with her.

She is ten times more a celebrity to me than the diseased piece of semi-human filth known as Tommy Lee.

I played it very cool, though I was giddy inside...didn't want to be "that guy"

2012-07-02 03:13:56 PM
I'm on the fence with this one. Yes, 'ol T-Bone comes off dickish here, but what he's saying is pretty valid. Also keep in mind that this letter came from the depths of his 11th grade education.

If one sees a "celebrity" or a musician they admire, the MOST you should do is say "Thanks!" or "Big fan..." and that's IT. On the few occasions I've come into contact with a celebrity, that's exactly what I've done and on a few occasions, it got me a pretty decent conversation.

They ARE people too.

2012-07-02 03:16:38 PM
I love how famous people want to be famous and want us as a public to buy whatever it is they do then they say they just want everyone to leave them alone.I get that if you are out with your family that that is not the time to sign stuff and I know some fans can be dicks. But fans come along with being famous.

True, unless you are talking about Tommy Lee - who is a subhuman, semi-sentient sac of pox-infested sores masquerading as a talking boy-man with delusions of his own meaningless fame.

Hey tommy, since your shiat doesnt stink and you dont want to associate with the common foll that would have kept you from working menial jobs for the rest of your life, wanna refund my concert tix from a couple years ago where your lead singer was so intoxicated he couldnt sing? Only the second concert I ever walked out of.

I understand being tired of posing for pics, but you signed up for the gig. At least be a little more dignified about why.

Jerk..............

So many THISes here.

We don't care about you Tommy, if I ever see you in the pisser I'm not gonna give a fark.
If you don't want people bugging you, keep off the radar, stop coming to Scottsdale clubs just to be seen and not meet anyone AT THE FRONT ENTRANCE PATIO TABLES because your bodyguard says keep away.
Yeah I saw that.
LAME. They just paid you to sit there just so they can say you'll be there?
Your popularity has been on the wane for years, stop acting like being famous is a pain in the ass.
Fark off to some island and learn a new language for a few years.
I was famous WITHOUT THE MONEY, so suck it up, princess.
You make me sick and angry at the same time.

Please respect my privacy.

Except when I:

Release a repulsive porno tape
DJ poorly at a nightclub
Drum for one of the most well known 80s hairbands
hiat up a nightspot with a stripper
Act like a dumbass on a reality show
Make attention whoring statements to the press
Get myself into legal trouble
Assault papparazzi
Assault other musicians
Try to glom on to the latest music trend to keep my fame alive

Don't you have any decency? I'm not doing this for publicity!

I've seen my fair share of shops, and while I'd like think it was real, it is shooped, sorry. The pic was taken before the dark night had even been released...you can tell by jack's suit and sunglasses.

Exactly. If you're going to be a celebrity (or a has-been like Tommy), prepare to have fans and paparazzi. He sounds like a fireman crying about a little smoke.

CSB time - for the second time today I get to tell a "when I lived in Hollywood" story...

This was more than a dozen years ago - Standing in the coffee shop at Hustler Hollywood flipping through a few hot rod magazines I looked left at the guy flipping through some golf magazine or something. It was Tommy. I just said, "hey dude" and went about my business. No big deal. Shiat like that happened ALL the time.

That's how it is in Hollywood though. The only people that make a show of it are the tourists with cameras, so I guess I understand his point.

I know someone who waited at a high end restaurant in NYC. Actors always gave great tips (which he rationalized by the fact most actors waited tables while they were waiting for the big break), Athletes almost always stiffed (which he rationalized as them pretty much being told their shiat didn't stink since they were about 12 years old and found out they'd won the genetic lottery).

Odd Bird: Jack can relate to Tommy's frustration.

When the Lakers were in Houston long ago for the playoffs, a local tv reporter went up to Jack, who had floor seats for the game, for an interview. Jack motioned him down and whispered in the reporter's ear. The reporter walked away and the anchor asked him what he said. The reporter said "he said he doesn't give interviews." On live tv. Jack is the greatest troll ever.
