In case you didn't pay attention, following those "Would You Like To Know More" icons ended up with Dina Meyer's jubblies on the screen. Twice. Personally, I'd like To Know More.

Of course not, they were all running from the incoming tsunami.
Then, because this happened just before sunset, they were busy preparing to study the streetlight.

Once you get past that, it is a wonderfully entertaining movie with some sharp satire. It'd almost have been better if they had kept the original "Bug Hunt at Outpost 9" title so it could be properly enjoyed as the guilty pleasure it is without having to feel bad about Heinlen's good work being sullied.

Hating this movie? Cant we enjoy cheesy silly action satire? This movie is awesome. Silly nonsense sci-fi with some good satire thrown in. Guilty pleasure movie for sure. But to hate it? Its like hating a retarded kid when you know you enjoy watching him be retarded.

That's because it's not an adaptation of it, it's a parody of it.

To understand the hate you have to put it in context with what it was based on.
Starship troopers was classic Heinlein and it made people expect alot.
Unfortunately the final product felt like no one on the set bothered to read the book.

Somewhat similar to what happened with wing commander, last air bender, Prometheus, etc...
When everyone watching realizes they are more familiar with the product than the writer, director, and producer, nerd rage is the only possible outcome.

Saw Casper Van Dien talk about making the movie and said he had read the books as a kid. He was sort of disappointed that the move was so different...but it was a paycheck.

If you listen to Verhoeven's commentary on the film, he says he meant it as a satire of the book and an indictment of its ideas.

Me too. Still one of my go to movies for a rainy sunday afternoon. I even enjoyed the book, but the fact is it's a damn fun movie and that's all I need it to be.
