I went to see Men in Black 3 after hearing next to nothing. I got in the second weekend and there were only 4 other people in the audience.

But damn, it's good. I really liked the characters and whats this? Character development?! Madness!
However, old Tommy Lee Jones is showing his age. I'm not sure it's a great idea to keep pushing his character.

Saw it with the wife, the first 45min or so were kinda boring. But it got noticeably better. The ending was great even if it was predictable. I might be biased though because I got road-head on the way home, which made the night far more memorable than it normally would have been.

thornhill: NewportBarGuy: Men in Black 3 has now earned $599.4 million worldwide to become the highest-grossing title in the Sony franchise.

In 1997, Men in Black earned $589.4 million (MIB3 had already eclipsed Men in Black II, which grossed $441.8 million globally).

Does anyone want to inflation-adjust that? I'm all mathed out.

And besides that, the third film a had a much larger budget and the actors and producers likely took a larger cut of the box office gross.

But I'm sure we're likely to still get a 4th film.

According to Box Office Mojo, it's budget was $225 million. It's US grosses won't break even on production costs, ignoring the advertising costs. Compare that to The Avenger's $220 million, which was nearly all made back its opening weekend. I guess having your movie sit in developmental hell for a few years as you go through writers the way Nancy Botwin goes through iced coffee can add up quite quickly.

But I digress, this movie was (from what I've read) better than the 2nd one, so there will probably be a 4th one.

I was thinking this last night. And I saw it the weekend it opened.

The reviewer here wrote that it wasn't as good as MiB but waaaaay better than MiBII and he was absolutely right.

Bad timing. It got buried in all the competition. Too many movies this summer. It didn't help that they waited a decade since the last one. Spider-Man was a decade ago and they already did a remake.

MIB3 was the best movie I've seen so far this summer. Brolin was a great casting choice and nailed the role of a young K. Perhaps it was the bad taste of MIB2 that kept U,S, moviegoers away.

I don't know how they do a fourth and keep Brolin involved though. J is back in 2012.

Downloading is taking something of value without paying for it. That's what we in a civilized society call theft.

I hope they bring back Linda Fiorentino for MIB IV . I found this video of an ad she made in 2011 for the Italian American Foundation. She looks pretty good.

You're not supposed to until the sequel comes out.

That's what sucked about it, because don't think it did well enough to warrant a sequel.

dfacto: After MiB2 I was expecting a crappy film, and the lack of serious advertising all but confirmed it, but honestly it was a very good film, and possibly better than 1. Tommy Lee Jones is getting ooooooooold though.

I thought it was clever that they made a whole movie including his character without needing him that much. That's why I thought they wouldn't be able to do a fourth.

/MiB3 is a very fun movie. Haders gonna Hade

I enjoyed Men in Black 2. The Post Office scene alone was worth it. I loved Rosario Dawson and, God help me, I enjoyed Lara Flynn Boyle as the bad guy!

It was the better of the three movies actually.. probably didn't want to break your heart seeing that your favorite was probably on the turd pile that was MiBII.

No. Just look at the villains. There's no way you can compare Jemaine Clement's Shouty McAngrypants to Vincent D'Onofrio's Evil Cockroach. The bet part of MIB 3 was Josh Brolin's impression of Tommy Lee. And that still wasn't as good as the real Tommy Lee in his prime in the first film.

I was actually surprised that it was pretty good. I'm grading on a curve of course given the abortion that was MiB 2. Tommy Lee Jones wasn't in it enough and Rip Torn wasn't in it at all but I knew that going in. And the "twist" ending kind of negated a lot of the first one. Still it was better than my admittedly low expectations.

And of course it made more money than the first given inflation, a wider foreign market and larger ticket prices for 3D.

The movie's international cume through Sunday was an impressive $429.8 million, compared to $169.6 million domestically.

Just keep this one in your back pocket, for the next time someone starts talking about how terrible the US is compared to the rest of the first world.

We always get these $ amounts on movies, how about some attendance numbers so movies can actually be compared to others of the past more acurately.
