Ah, 1997. I remember making a cassette of the soundtrack from a friend's CD because I was too poor to buy it myself.

Was that song even popular when the movie came out? I don't recall it (but, I guess I wasn't listening to much or that type of music anyway).

Submitter, I don't think you know what "awesome" means.

Here is the correct definition:

awe·some/ˈôsəm/
Adjective:
Extremely impressive or daunting; inspiring great admiration, apprehension, or fear.
Extremely good; excellent.

The soundtrack was the 69th best selling pop album of the 90's.

The single peaked at 37, 11 on the rap chart.

37th on the main stream charts is OK, but, I don't feel bad for not remembering it now.

I remember R. Kelly's "I Believe I Can Fly" and Seal's rendition of "Fly Like an Eagle," and that's about it. Definitely not the song in the video.

With such deep and meaningful lyrics like "Come on and slam, and welcome to the jam", it's no wonder that this song was wildly successful.

I don't like rap music myself but that doesn't mean it sucks.

It's still selling the Space Jam soundtrack on cassette for $8.99, or you can check where it's playing in local theaters with a link to Blockbuster!

I grew up in that era, and love a lot of stuff like that, Nucleus, etc. This was actually on the table jukebox at a local farmer's restaurant I still go to now, and it's still one of my faves. Kids today don't know it, but some of these really old school beats are monstrous. They just think of the entire era as goofy and uncool, I think, which is too bad; they're missing out on some pretty great drops.

In glorious 88kbps! My favorite part is how they admit to the shiatty quality of their sound files on their own site.

To be fair to the guys doing this song, they did have a much bigger hit that I definitely do remember (mostly because it was used frequently by the Arena Football teams games I went to in the late 90s):

Come on Ride the Train!

This was quite par for the course in 1996 though. Remember, there was no flash, no really nice looking graphics... 28k modems were the norm not the exception in 1996... if a site was even 1-2 MB in size total that would be a very slow loading website.
