The survey was in the UK.... I thought all of the guys there were gay, NTTAWWT.

I mean, C3P0 is clearly British, right?

Mr. Potatoass: In 1997, my ex and I decided to name our son Andrew Paul Potatoass. Call him Drew.
At the time I thought: "The only potential downside of his first and middle names is, if down the road, some smartass kid(s) were to call him 'Drew Paul' ", referencing the tranny attention whore RuPaul, who, at the time, was new on the scene.
Then, I thought: "Two years from now, no one will even remember who the fark this 'RuPaul' even was."

I grossly underestimated the number of vapid people in this country.

RuPaul is ridicuously entertaining. Nothing wrong with a lady full of charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent.

Gyrfalcon: Dove?

I had the same problem with deodorant some years back. Dove makes a good hypoallergenic anti-persperant, they might have some shampoo you can use.

I'm allergic to dove. Even dove unscented. Hives in less than two days of use.

So far the shiat list includes basically every major brand including dove, except Dial Grapeseed (caveat: it's very astringent and drying, I can only use this occasionally!), everything in Bath and Body, every shampoo brand including salon brands (sometimes it's my scalp, sometimes I break out at the hairline or where my hair touches my forehead). Mary Kay's entire lineup is out. Castile Soap is out. I've had some touch and go success with some newagey organic crap from Kroger, but I can't figure out the pattern to the reaction. I honestly have no idea what my skin is doing most of the time. Oh, and one of Lush's gel shampoos was one of the worst reactions. OW OW OW.

What I'm using now is a Lush shampoo bar every other day. On the day I'm not using that I'm actually using a facial bar from Lush, Fresh Pharmacy, on both my face and my hair (I have short hair). I also use sandstone soap on my face. At night, I use a PanOxl 5% bar to control what very little acne I get (I have basically no acne bacteria, as confirmed by a skin consultation). I use Tide Free on my clothes and no dryer sheets.

Stuff that's worked, but that I don't use constantly, are some other soaps from Lush, some from Allafia, and a shea butter soap I got from a Sally's Beauty Supply. Most of these don't get to stay in the shower because they go to goo almost immediately, even when kept in their own containers. No staying power.

The utter pisser is I can get my hair dyed, bleached, put into rainbow colors. No reaction. But the minute they use conditioner on me? I'm doomed.

/I don't wish this on anyone
//seriously that one Lush shampoo was like setting my head on fire

They are not men. Having the right chromosomes is only part of what it takes to be a man. The other is part is how you conduct yourself. If you fail to conduct yourself a man then you do not deserve to be called one.

Gay men drink each others.

R.A.Danny: How can you blame them when there is a HD camera in everybody's pocket?

Well, I can blame them.

With HD not only can you count the covered up acne craters on their faces, you can count the powder brush strokes too.

Here's a fun fact: using soap was once seen as a feminine activity , therefore, men did not always use it. The usage of soap by men was started with the Franks and was culturally assimilated into the rest of European culture.

Exfoliating is for girls, but washing your face with Lava soap just means you're hard core!

Moisturizing is for girls, but it's perfectly reasonable to use aftershave lotion.

In the morning if my face is a little puffy I'll put on an ice pack. After I remove the ice pack I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower I use a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb-mint facial mask which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an after shave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion.

Evenbiggerknickers: it's like the 80s all over again.

[bestofthe80s.files.wordpress.com image 450x337]

[www.nndb.com image 257x258]

This actually makes sense, according to a theory I came up with quite a few years ago: At any given time, there is a nostalgia for about 20 years earlier. That means that right now, the original MTV/New Wave era is becoming nostalgic, and we can expect to see more and more evidence of that. It'll peak in a few years and then slowly subside, to be followed by a grunge nostalgia about ten years from now. Mark my words.

Even more interesting, because this has been going on so long -- more than a century now, by my estimate -- each cultural wave of nostalgia has within it ripples of the nostalgia wave that was in effect in its own time. That's why swing suddenly reappeared in the '90s -- because it was also briefly in (re)vogue in the '70s and '50s, from its origins in the '30s. (And the original Swing Era itself was partly fed by nostalgia of the Gay Nineties.)

I'm kind of looking forward to this trend myself. The '80s were weird, but they weren't boring. And I've gotten really sick of cities full of young professinal guys who all look like 'Wall Street' extras or advert actors. Bring it on, boys!

Yep, and the first part of conducting yourself like a man is knowing that questioning whether another male is a man or not based on some stupid societal idea of what masculinity is means you are not conducting yourself like a man.

That is stupid. It is like saying everybody gets to define what a man is even the non-men. Next thing you will be saying that it is ok for men to squat to piss.

Part of being a man is keeping you fellow man on the correct path and letting him know when he straying of course.

Hmmmmm... I always thought being manly meant being courageous, honorable, and mature - being honest with yourself and others, helping out your fellow man, making the world a better place, etc.

But, according to a group of people in this thread, all you have to do is pee standing up and not wear make-up!!! Wow, that's soooo much easier than being a virtuous, intelligent adult! Thanks, manly men of Fark!

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;

If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;

If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!
