This growing trend of naming laws after kids sickens me. It's an obvious ploy to make knee-jerk legislation more palatable by pandering to some dead snowflake's parents. I'm not pro-bullying by any stretch, but I can already see the talus-covered slope leading to all sorts of "zero-tolerance" rules which will lead to even more absurd stories about straight-A students being expelled because somebody said somebody heard said student say something bad.

As a Californian I am disgusted with the coastal regions of this state and their mindless hippie inhabitants. The sad part is that the majority of this state (the central valley, northern mountains, southern desert) is inhabited by perfectly sane, normal folks. Yet for some reason all of the laws and regulation are driven by SF or LA. Two giant, idiot-filled, pissholes.

Not being Donald Trump or some other hoity toity type I had never had foie gras or even heard of it. However, once I heard about the ban and read up on the issue I thought it was the most ridiculous thing imaginable and figured I might as well try it while I have the chance. Now that I have had foie gras and realized how delicious it is, and not actually all that horribly expensive I will definitely be having it every time I get the chance when I travel out of state.

If you elect lawmakers, they're gonna make laws. There is no restriction on the intelligence level of those laws so you're gonna get quite a few needless and useless laws. As long as they making laws is the scorecard for these guys, our freedoms are gonna be eroded.

No, no, no. If they move out of Cali, they move north to WA and bring their farked up ideas here. If they would leave their self righteousness back in Cali, they would be more welcome. However that seems to be impossible for some ex-Californians.

Case in point, we still allow the not so safe and sane fireworks here in town (e.g. mortars). It's a tradition and we like it that way.

If you read the paper's online comments you see many ex-Californians complaining about it and demanding they be outlawed. They call us backwards and out of touch with modern society simply because we choose to have some noisy fun on the fourth.

It's not our fault if you didn't do your homework on the city your moving too and we sure as heck aren't going to change because you stomp your feet and cry.

If it is any consolation we don't like those Californians in California either. You know how much it sucks to drive all the way to Yuma from San Diego just to get stuff to blow up? Then you have to blow it up in the middle of nowhere so there's another trip. They are trying to ban fireworks displays in San Diego because the noise disturbs all the animals. You know who has fireworks every damn night? Sea World and the penguins seem fine with it.

Of course those estimates are what it would cost if you took the car to a dealership and used all new, factory certified parts as well as certified mechanics to repair it. These places typically charge upwards of $80-$100 an hour for labor as well as a 25% markup on parts. A person whos mechanically inclined can buy used parts from a junk yard and pound some of the smaller dents out by hand and fix the car as good as new for a fraction of that cost.

As long as you're not paying full book value for one, salvaged title cars can be a great buy and last as long as any other vehicle.

wtf? Couldnt disagree more. I am in Tracy. Its a perfectly nice place. Its one hell of a lot better place to live than other places I have lived (San Jose, Fremont, or Gilroy). Its not grossly over-crowded like the first two and much nicer than the last one. 1 to 2 mile outs from my house I can be in farmland driving whatever speed I want without a cop in sight, yet I have all the comforts of a quiet suburban neighborhood.

This is why Carfax is your friend. You can get a car for half as much just because of the salvage title you just need to know why it has a salvage title. My buddy can't sell his car for dick now. I could probably buy it for $8,000 and have an H3 with less than 50k miles that is in perfectly good shape. He was going to sell if but I convinced him to run it into the ground he will gain nothing by selling it.

Some members of my family have lived in Tracy since the 1930s. I visited the place many times during the 1960s/1970s, when it was still a small, rural community. It seemed that everyone knew everyone else. My dad's high school friends' families owned the Tracy Press and the A&W on Grant Line (is it still there?); we got free newspapers, burgers, and root beer floats every time we visited. :)

Sadly, it isn't like that anymore. The last time I visited was in 2004. What a difference. Only Central Ave. and some areas south of 11th Street still retain a bit of small-town flavor. The house near MacDonald Park that my grandparents bought in 1934 is still there, but the miles of orange groves that stood nearby are long-gone, having been replaced with numerous cookie-cutter homes. There was nothing north of Grant Line way back when, either. The city also has a huge gang (and crime) problem that didn't exist 30 years ago.

It is no doubt different from what it was in the 60s or 70s and cant even speak to what it was like then. It isnt bad now though. Although the orange groves (and A&W) are gone there is still plenty of open farmland around. Plus I bet you didnt have a Sears, Home Depot, Macys, Best Buy, Target, Black Bear Diner, Texas Roadhouse, etc back then.

The gang problem is relative. Yes, compared to the 60s or 70s it is probably huge. Compared to Stockton, Salinas, Oakland or even relatively nice bay area cities like San Jose or Fremont our gang problem is trivial. btw, Central is the gang banger headquarters. No small town feel at all to it. Although it is not quite a ghetto, it is one of the uglier areas of the city. "Downtown" is not where folks really go anyway. There is much more to do around the mall on the north side of 205. The city leaders keep trying (and failing) to revive downtown. They would be much wiser to encourage movement of the remaining desirable businesses over to the area near the mall, along with the government functions (city hall, police, etc). Like most older downtown areas our is not attractive and never will be without replacing every building in site. The buildings and the layout of the streets have just outlived their lifespan. Lets fact it though, almost no building over 30 or so years old looks nice.
