It's inevitable that there is an uptake into a language of foreign terms when one culture becomes a topic of conversation in another culture.

ZAZ: It's a secret project of our own government to destroy an invasive species (Eucalyptus) that has too many defenders to allow an open war.

i wouldn't blame the government, but with 16 species in less than 30 years, in clusters, separately in socal and norcall, it seems likely someone is doing something they're not supposed to be doing. it's all fun and games to one of their imports turns out to be deadly to something more californian, say redwoods. then people will be unhappy.

also, don't eucalyptus poison plants around them?
