I like the idea of Cheap Chic Weddings. When my little sister's eldest got married, I complimented my sister on the lovely wedding and reception. My sister said. "Yes, and we didn't even take a new mortgage out on the house." I had a hard time believing that anyone would do that, but it turns out that they do. It's the most appalling thing I have heard of otherwise sane people doing.

You may need to take a second mortgage out to send your child to an Ivy. That is an investment. You do not take a second mortgage out for a ceremony and a party. Frankly. it doesn't bode well for the marriage when the wedding can't be done within the family's means.

/yes, I know it's the people in the wedding industry who push people to spend more than they can afford
