parkthebus: Quite honestly, I don't pay that much attention to national politicians

Perhaps you should start before whining that my portrayal of national level GOP lawmakers is unfair.

Jorn the Younger: Pay more attention to what the voice of the modern Republican party is saying, and consider maybe you're not a Republican anymore.

I don't know - his "I admit I know nothing about the topic but I won't let that stop me from taking whatever position is opposite what the Libs say" routine is textbook Republican.

Gee, I feel like a misquoted politician now. The point of my statement was that I can't collate a bunch of names for you as I don't pay overmuch attention to national politicians. It doesn't mean I don't pay attention locally, which is the arena where I'm more likely to make a difference.

What I object to is the broad-brush stereotyping of all Republicans as evil/racist/stupid.

Maybe if Republicans stopped reinforcing the stereotype everyday, then they might not be labeled as such.

If you don't want to be painted by that brush, you need to stop calling yourself a Republican, because that's who the Republicans are now. I'm not saying that's you, I'm saying they took that name away from you. It belongs to them now.

You don't have to become a democrat, but if you don't want to be associated with stupid evil racists, you should stop associating yourself with them.

Great Porn Dragon: //Have I mentioned that pretty much I always spend a goodly chunk of the year in a lovely deductible hole where I pay the full cost of medical crap despite having insurance?
///And thank goodness I have insurance through the SO; I suspect just from the asthma alone I'd be considered uninsurable pre-Obamacare
////2014 Cannot. Come. Fast. Enough

1) I am right there with you. $3000 combined for Wifey and me, not $1500 each
2) Shiatty insurance is still insurance, I guess
3) Amen. I just want to last long enough for the good stuff to kick in

/Saying a prayer for you and your SO.

Who misquoted you and where? Be specific, please, because I cut and paste "quite honestly, I don't pay that much attention" directly from your post so that couldn't be what you're referring to.

He means "politician who inadvertently spoke his mind in a public forum and now must claim he was misquoted in order to save face."

So you only care about what happens immediately around you, and not what's going on in the rest of the country.

For cripes sake, neither you nor I can know everything about everything. Can't we just agree that stereotyping is wrong? Hasn't it always been?

Parse my words all you like, I suppose.

Parse your words? You said - and this is a direct quote, not a "misquote" as you claim - "quite honestly, I don't pay that much attention." That's a fairly simple, direct statement. Not much ambiguity or room for misinterpretation there. I don't see how that's us parsing your words.

It's also kind of funny how your admitted ignorance and unwillingness to stand by your statement (instead trying to blame everyone else) doesn't exactly prove my description of Republicans wrong.

"...quite honestly, I don't pay much attention..." was a just a fragment of the sentence "Quite honestly, I don't pay that much attention to national politicians to create a bibliography for you." I know that reading is hard, etc., but if anyone is showing ignorance and unwillingness to see the truth it is those who refuse to eschew stereotyping.

I gave you the opportunity to prove my description wrong. You were unable or unwilling to do that, so I'll stick with what I see every day in the news.

(unlike you, I'm paying attention)
