FTFA: The legislation, backed by Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Harry Reid, D-Nev., was quietly inserted into a massive transportation bill

The real story here is that congress is still brazenly engaging in fraud and extortion. -- and representatives see nothing wrong with that.

Sec. 100122. Roll-your-own cigarette machines

Inserted into the same Highway bill effectively shuts down all ROY cig shops more than 10,000 jobs lost. Primarily because small business was getting scraps left over from RJR and 7-Eleven.

The funny thing is, you can still buy those rolling machines for home use.

You can also buy "dual purpose tobacco" which is cut slightly wider than regular cigarette tobacco, just enough to avoid paying Obama's exorbitant tax. A pound of this stuff costs $20 and makes 2.5 cartons of cigs.

might otherwise be unable to explore the Grand

About 70 percent of the Grand Canyon visitors who take the helicopter and plane tours are foreign
tourists ....

It's all about the money.

I think you misunderstood the gist of the headline: A bill backed by John McCain and Harry Reid, and signed by President Obama, *prohibits* the national parks service from even developing any such regulations.

So, next time someone tells you about all the huge restrictions Obama and the democrats are heaping on small and large businesses alike, you can ... well, probably just misunderstand again, as needed.

"I am pleased to end the war on those rural Arizona jobs."

So damn sick of everything being a war. Yes, even the "war" on women.
Where does the discourse go from there? What's more threatening and offensive sounding than war?

How long until people start complaining about the skull-farking of Christmas, jobs, women and so on?

"The Obama administration's misguided regulations were an unwarranted assault on an industry that was already taking precautions to protect the Grand Canyon experience for park visitors," said Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., who championed the bill in the House. "I am pleased to end the war on those rural Arizona jobs."

Didn't President Obama just sign this? And to my understanding, the park service has been attempting to introduce such regulations but was unable to and has been flatly blocked from doing so. How then did the Obama administration have "misguided regulations"? Please, someone tell me I am just not aware of some regulation and our discourse has not been reduced to... you know what? I am trying to come up with a way to describe the insanity in this, but I cannot.

Oh, no, it's all about JOBS: But tour operators and their supporters in Congress said the bill stops government bureaucrats from imposing onerous regulation on an industry that provides 1,250 jobs in northern Arizona and the Las Vegas area.

Of course, if it's true that another rider in the bill COST the area 10,000 jobs, that's a net loss of 8,750 jobs, but hey! Gotta keep those air tourists happy!

This is another step in the hillbillyfication of America. Recently, this kind of story has been about the right of hordes of hillbillies to roar their ATVs, dirt bikes, and other noisy, smelly machines over pristine wilderness. Their idea of a pristine wilderness is a kind of woodsy Disneyland, where nobody can question your right to be a loud, rude jackass. Suck down your 64 ounce big gulp and then let go of it. If Disneyland doesn't have the sense to put a trashcan in the spot where you let it go, then some Disneyland flunkie emerges from a hiding place and scurries over to pick it up for you. Please, Mr. Hillbilly, do whatever you want. You are spending money, and that gives you unlimited rights. Fark you, man, they ain't even 60 miles uh trails in this Disneyland national park, I wanna nother 60, an' I wan' a Taco Bell out here too. An' the toilets ain't got seats wide 'nough fer my fat ass. Farkin' I pay taxes an' I got a right tuh liberty an' shiat.

This hillbilly nation now looks at every square inch of the country--the world--in the same way. "Fark you, I pay taxes, so I can come in here, shiat all over everything, throw a wad of bills, and leave. I'm a farkin' Murican farkin' get the fark out of my farkin' way. BURRRP. I wanna a hot dog. I will say that the helicopters are pretty damn loud in the GC, you can hear that shiat miles and miles away. On the other hand, having just done a doors-off heli tour of an erupting volcano, it's pretty awesome to take one of these tours.

2012-07-01 02:00:18 PM
To be fair, noise over the Canyon isn't what people are trying to make of it. There is no air traffic noise. In fact, the only time you really hear helicopters, it's because you know someone is down inside the Canyon. They passed some major noise-dampening laws in the mid-90's that got it to this point, and it's fine as it is. I lived and worked there for a summer in the late 90's, have taken vacations there, and worked remodel and maintenance jobs on both rims. Despite the hand-wringing and teeth gnashing, this is fighting a problem that doesn't really exist.

You want noisy air traffic, go to Tusayan, the town outside of the South Rim. Between the actual airport traffic, and 3 or 4 major helicopter companies sending up a chopper every 10/15 minutes, it's like hanging out on the tarmac at your favorite international airport.

Sorry, the 'Grand Canyon is noisy' bullshiat doesn't wash, neither does the 'Cars are causing pollution!' bullshiat, they are just pretty little bows on packages that makes everyone feel like they've done something. If they want to fix air pollution in the Canyon, they need to wipe that stupid coal plant in Page off the face of the Earth. Hell, all of Page while they're at it, including Glen Canyon Dam. Let's drain the bathtub...

Why is anyone shocked by this? This is how our government runs - moneyed interests buy influence. And it's only getting worse since Citizens United.

We'll get caught up in flamewars over which side is the bigger asshole, but the fact is that both sides are in the pockets of moneyed special interests. Want to talk about what the founding fathers envisioned for our country? I can't imagine that they envisioned a government where influence was bought and sold on a regular basis.
