Forbes columnist Peter Cohan at says he was paying $4.50 a gallon for gasoline last spring but that now the price has dropped to $3.49 a gallon. That 53-cents difference...

Obama's $52 million plan to increase the margin requirements and otherwise tighten the screws on oil speculators -

Damn, first I heard about this. Does anyone actually think Rmoney would even consider imposing any regulation that limits reckless and harmful speculation? One more reason to vote Obama.

Something bad happens, it's because of Obama; something good happens, it's in spite of Obama.
Lather, rinse, repeat.

If you want to read the actual article, instead of a sloppy, disjointed, idiotic article about the article, it's over here.

The original author seems to be capable of basic arithmetic, at least: "After all, I was paying about $4.05 a gallon for mid-grade back then and this week the price had fallen to $3.49.

That 56 cents a gallon decline ..."

Gas prices go up because Obammunism.

Gas prices go down because Republicans protect fetuses and apple pie.

Suck it, libs.

Hey, if you're going to blame a president when gas prices go up, you're a hypocrite if you don't give that same president credit when the price goes down. Of course, modern Republicans build their platform around hypocrisy, so this should be no issue for them.

The reality (what every US president since Ronny the Union Buster Reagan has done): call up the Saudis and have them over-pump their oil wells as much as possible for the 9-12 months preceding the election.

But if it helps us keep the anti-woman's rights bigotry party out of the White House I'm all for it.

This is a bad week for Rmoney.

He had previously argued that Obama is to blame for the gas prices . . .

Then he said that if Obamacare is declared unconstitutional then Obama's presidency was a failure . . . .

If only this would translate into changed votes. A girl can wish...

Romney wouldn't consider it because the government has no business manipulating the economy.

Romney would suggest the free market solution. We wouldn't be told what that is or when it will kick in, of course. But if someone is profiting off of a certain behavior then there must be some sort of counterbalance to it that someone else can profit off of. We just have to wait for that counterbalance to kick in. We just have to have faith. Faith in money and human greed.

What was the name of the bill that changed the regulations? The author of the article refers to it as a plan....was it just an idea or was it actually implemented?

There was an article here not too long ago that talked about how Obamas task force on oil prices only met twice in 3 years or something and nothing was ever done.....

Buh-buh-buh-but free markets means true price discovery...!

It's funny how long it's taken to realize this. The large speculator & producers trend lines are included in most traders' price charts. It would brainless not to study where they are hedging to anticipate a turn in the market.

It appears the author has made the age old mistake of confusing "causation" with "correlation." While increasing the margin requirements is a good start, they are not the cause of the slide in oil prices. If the margin requirements had really put a squeeze on speculators, it would be hard to imagine yesterday's 9% jump in oil prices (fourth highest one day increase since oil has been traded (1983)). When you look at the environment and what is most likely driving prices lower, one would have to look at continued demand destruction, historic high supplies (highest in 22 years), the strength of the dollar vs. the Euro, the EU about to implode, a slowing economy in China and India and increased production in Saudi Arabia and even the USA.

Sorry, while the increased margins have contributed to the decline in oil price, they have only had a small effect when compared to all of the other factors weighing on the current price.

Thank you for lowering gasoline prices not bombing Iran, Mr. President

IMO that's still one of the biggest factors in the recent panic in the oil market.

You're the one bringing the herpderp by just looking at one day. Oil was over $100 bucks in April in early May. Even with your "price jump" it's just $85.

Yeah because that is insignificant or something. Its not like it decreased 20% over about a month and a half then 50% of that decrease was wiped in a 4-5 hour time period.

Oil prices are going down because of the relaunch of Dallas. The middle east sees those programs and thinks it's real life. So they are tying to undercut the Ewings. Same thing happened in the late 70s when the show aired.

Thank's again J.R.
