It's call playing the percentages. It's what smart managers do to win ballgames.

From 2010-2011, Derrek Lee put up the exact same WAR as...James Loney.

But no, I'm sure the old guy who hasn't played at all this season would be a lot better than the younger guy who has.

If Lee's willing to accept a minor league deal, go ahead and sign him and see what he's got. But if he's insisting on a major league deal (as he was in the offseason) or a minor league deal with a really quick opt-out date, I wouldn't bother.

They've been in a serious slump for the past two weeks, and with both Kemp and Ethier out, they need all the help they can get.

They still play baseball?
Thought we solved that in '94.

Well, they do now have money since the sale... why not spend it on something closer to a sure thing?

It's a bit of a stretch calling Derek Lee a "player".

I used to want the Giants to give him a look, especially earlier this year when 1b seemed to be a black hole of suck.
Then again, they're not that much better with Belt playing everyday. Sometimes I think he's the next JR Philips/Lance Neikro "answer at first" they've needed to bridge the gap and fill from after Will Clark and JT Snow.

The dodgers should do something about their violent fans or crappy ancient stadium first.

I have some friendly bets with Doyers fans. Their record straight up against the Angels at season end. Nice to see that 13 game difference eradicated. Tied straight up as of now.

If they didn't say Dodgers, I would have swore this thread would have been about the Mariners. That team has been a nice farm for the Yankees and apparently everyone else for years.

I know right? It's not even named after a credit card, what kind of lame shiat is that? And don't even get me started about the lack of animatronic fish in center field. What a shiathole. While we're on the subject, tear down Fenway. That green wall is so 1920.

I dunno.. the Mariners got an actual bat in the lineup from the Yankees in exchange for a starter that won't throw a pitch this year

The difference is that places like Fenway and Wrigley have distinct character. Dodger Stadium is just.. old. It looks like the older parts of JFK airport.

They actually have their eyes on Carlos Lee. All he has to do is waive his no trade clause. Link

As an Astros fan, I really hope he accepts the trade. It's the least he could do, after stealing money from the team the past couple years. I'm so sick and tired of watching him loaf it along the base paths like a lazy cow. If there's one bright spot this year, he's actually not a bad first baseman, and he's a servicable contact hitter. With his pay check though, he should be mashing the ball, instead of just 5 home runs and 20 something RBI.

MLBN reported he will not waive.

I'm not a Dodgers fan, but to call Dodger's Stadium crappy is f*cking ridiculous. The stadium does have distinct character (even if it is character from the 1960s).

And now you're putting JFK Airport on trial?!?! You sonnofabit... I'm kidding, JFK is garbage beyond compare.

Oddly enough, Derrek Lee did the same thing 2 years ago to LA when they tried to trade for them.

Indeed. It is a great place to watch baseball. There are no huge amenities that are missing, the seats in nosebleed are just as uncomfortable as everywhere else, and the views are great

JFK is garbage. Can't speak to dodger stadium but I do know that anything is better than the Coliseum. Seriously, anything is. The minor league park in Newark that gets 150 people on Thursdays is better.

Bullshiat. Dodger Stadium is GORGEOUS. Or was, until O'Malley sold and all those farking ads went up.

Have you lost your mind? Dodger stadium is "crappy?"

You lose all credibility with ridiculous statements like that.
