(Independent)   Subby used to be 'with it', but then they changed what 'it' was. Now what he's with isn't 'it', and what's 'it' seems weird and scary   (independent.co.uk) divider line 57

Yes, subby, the lack of good quality and easily available LSD in this country is truly shocking. I am not sure that we'll ever really recover as a nation.

LeroyBourne: And now we have dubstep and bath salts.

As far as dubstep the English are saying "Hey Yanks, welcome to 10 years ago".

Lol thats cause it took us a extra 5 years before Drum and Bass finally wore out its welcome and thank god for that. But I guess the trade off is now Dubstep still has a year or 2 before it fades out.

It's kind of funny how fast stuff will make it over to England, but what they come up with takes ages to make it to the US even when what inspired it comes from the US.

As for an example of what I mean, here's a single from Prodigy's first album It came out 20 years ago and at the time was pretty typical English dance music. In America? Yeah it was a few years away.

FTFA: In the United States, the Electronic Dance Music (EDM) movement is only now coursing through mainstream youth culture as it did in Britain a generation ago.

According to writers in England the term, "only now" translates into "1990." The Queens English. It's a good thing.

A couple weeks ago I shocked a bunch of the younger guys I work with were talking about some of the clubs downtown and I knew some of them and chimed in on how I used to work at some of them and what I did there they looked shocked. And I said to them "Hey I used to be cool and black too". They laughed.

Now that has become Dubstep. And Dubstep is terrible.

Oakenfield is in town next week at Summerfest; is he worth seeing?

2012-06-30 02:13:25 PM
But when you ask them about that time, they all have that glint in their eye

They sang about this in that song back from the 60's, "Those were the days my friend" Link And that song was translated from an even older Russian folksong. There is nothing new under the sun.

I used to go to the market for food shopping at 9 or 10 PM on Saturday night because the shops are generally empty at that time.

When I got home, I'd chill for a bit, get dressed, then go out til dawn.

Now I go the market at 9 or 10 on a Saturday (for the same reason), catch up on that week's Daily Show on TiVo, and go to bed.

/the old, I has it

It's cool. We're only a few years from a massive wave of nostalgia for the 90s so I'll be "with it" again and kids will know I am hip when I am dressed just like them dressed like me in 1993.

My opinion of acid house music ever since I was young enough to be "with it" has always been, "At it's best, it makes for appropriate background music in specific types of films or commercials." Which I'm sure is what all great artists aspire to.
