Taco bell: You are an awesom company.
I think you should be in charge of solving this whole "world hunger" thing.

/and harvest the resulting natural gas to solve the energy crisis.
/there, I fixed this planet. Now off to the gym.

Hahaha... sewer system... good one! They don't even have septic systems. We're talking shiat buckets. Works fine tho.

Sarah Palin, what have you done?

2012-06-30 09:06:02 AM
I lived in Juneau for over a year & had people tell me they usually fly down to Seattle once a month to pick up some Taco Bell for their friends.

And usually people would fly in from Bethel or Hoonah to do some shopping....at the Walmart....when there was a perfectly good Costco & a Fred Meyer in the same area.

Knowing the stoner ratio of rural Alaska, this will indeed be a major event.

Weed just isn't the same without Taco Bell.

And now the residents of Bethel can enjoy shiatting themselves in the morning like every other red blooded idiot.

They were kind enough to set up port-a-potties for the residents.

I don't mind that a Palm Beach paper is bringing us this story, but it seems they have an opening for a Good writer at the out of state news desk.

No they don't want me, and they couldnt afford me either.

Also, good on Taco Hell for bringing in the Tacos, but how about while they are there, they look for a local to start learning how to open a TB franchise.

Yep, that would be a good place for a new store...a very very busy one at that. Pair it with the KFC and Pizza Hut stores and you'd be a rich person there. The downside is you'd have to live there.

Nice job by Taco Bell on this, but if they want a good Mexican chain up there, they should open one of these.

I could handle it. I like winter :-)

Sorry subby but how exactly is posting fake taco bell ads around town with your neighbors number "the most awesome prank ever"?

2012-06-30 09:38:58 AM
. A couple of restaurants offer some Mexican food, but the price is prohibitive - $15 for a burrito and rice.

as compared to the $10-$12 dollars you'd expect to spend on a burrito and rice at a mexican restaurant in houston, a town full of mexicans and mexican restaurants? i'm sure there are much, much better examples of prohibitive prices in bethel AK.

2012-06-30 09:45:13 AM
if you choose to live somewhere so remote every damn thing has to be so special handled that it costs $15 for a farking taco maybe you should just say 'fark it' and turn yourself in.

Bethel isn't exactly flush with cash. A chain would have a very difficult time making a go of it, I think.

There's a Subway but no bar? WTF Alaska?
In Ireland a town of 6200 would have at least 700 pubs.

The Irish have been practicing the whole alcohol thing a little longer than the Yup'ik have.

There isn't much that is easier to make than beans and rice or a taco... couldn't they just make them themselves if they are feeling peckish?

that was cool of taco bell

There will be 950 pounds of seasoned beef

of which 100 lbs will be actual beef

I am sure getting supplies is more than half the fun anyhow, considering they have to be flown in. I think you would have to make the shell yourself from ingredients you ordered in and so on.

/Food prices up there must be incredible!!

Haven't been up there in a while, but last time I had a job there the town was "damp" - legal to possess alcohol for personal consumption but illegal to sell it.

A lot of the bush villages struggle with alcohol problems, so you find a bunch of them with "damp" or "dry" laws in effect. And yes, bootlegging is a real thing in Alaska as well.
