This is UK McDonalds...
I doubt American McDonalds are on the same level.

I admit, if I saw the Mystery Machine in a McD's parking lot I would so want to party with them.

I broke down and got some fries there today. First time in a while, and they actually did them RIGHT. I may have to go back tomorrow. Plus, thanks to the calorie label on the side I know they are only 500 calories! I always kind of assumed they were more.

/why yes, I did pair them with a drink that had zero calories, why do you ask?

The rest of their food is bad, but man their fries are good. And you can't say it's just salt, as I've eaten just salt, and it's not nearly as good.

The guy is about 95% right. I've only seen a few drug deals among co-workers though. And in my three years and three locations, I've never once seen anyone fark with the food. The customers take McD's way more seriously than any of the employees do.

I've seen various McDonalds around the US, but never in my life have I seen any as insanely crowded (yes, with locals) as the ones I saw in London and Paris. They didn't seem to be hating the American fast food, that's for sure.

Then there were the two families who started rowing in the parking lot, causing half the restaurant to go outside and watch.

Rowing? Rowing in the parking lot? How were there boats in the parking lot? Was there a flood? What is this, I don't even-

When the manager threatened to call the police they went to a neighbouring parking lot and carried on fighting.

Oh. Fighting-rowing. Rhymes with plowing. You mean like having a row. Silly English!

It's nothing more than someone who works at McDonald's. Even I worked at McDonalds part time ok 35 years ago. Took customer orders took their money gave change gave them their food. Nothing weird happened not even a marijuana sales. I wish I could have some weird event to relate, but no. Maybe it's the normalest thing I ever did.

I live in a sort of high-cost area. As far as fast food is concerned, I think you're right.
I feel much more at ease hitting a Carl's Jr in the southern barrio. Those people aren't being forced to work by their parents to pay half the car insurance on their brand new Jettas and are far less likely to hock one on my Chicken Swiss Crispy if I ask for onion rings instead of fries.

It's possible that there is more, well, food in British and French McDonald's food. Might be fun to look at the menus (with) nutritional information side by side.

Went to McDonald's twice during my high school French trip. The first time it was just for something to drink (Orangina on the Champs-Elysées!), as I was parched and that was the most convenient thing around. The second was for an actual meal -- it was cheap, and I was on a road trip with my French "sister" with whose family I was staying for a week -- and I had a salad shaker there. It had real cheese. Not shredded either, but in chunks. It was probably low-quality by French standards, but unheard of in an American fast food joint...

When I worked at Bob Evans, the manager would take some of the waitresses into the back office to do coke. And it's where I got all my best pot connections in college.

My point is, all food service is the same way.

I worked at a McDonald's for two years in high school. Like the guy in the article, i never saw food get messed with, it just never happened. My managers were anal retentive about food being left out too long so outside of lunch/dinner rush, most sandwiches and fries were made to order. Even when we did need to leave food in the warmer, it was seldom there for more than 5 minutes.

The cleaning part is VERY true. Wiping down tables, sweeping the floor, etc, made up at least half of my shifts and made me something of a clean freak for years after. We also had a giant play area for the kids. The air in the room was pressurized in such a way that it would blow out when the door was opened which meant you'd get a whiff of the metal and plastic on the equipment most of the time. We once had a birthday party there and a woman came up to me saying she thought a kid brought ice cream down one of the slides. Opened the door to check and got a blast of air which confirmed it wasn't ice cream and some kid crapped in one of the tube slides and all the other kids were going through it. Needless to say, the play area was closed for a week while we had a professional cleaning crew come in and clean it all out and then had a health inspector come in to take swabs from the slides and test them to delcare the place fit for kids to play in again.

How hard is it to make a Happy Meal? Open a box, toss in a cheeseburger or nuggets, some small fries, and a random toy out of a bin. Wiping your own ass is harder work.

2012-06-30 02:25:27 AM
I want to work for McDonald's after I win the lottery.

2012-06-30 02:28:23 AM
I have ten years in kitchens. Have I seen food get farked with? Unfortunately, yes. However.. It was never because you sent your food back or had a special order. It was not because you never tip. It was not because you are a notorious pain in the ass. Oddly enough it's not because the cook has personal issues with you outside of the workplace. On the very rare occasion I've seen it happen (twice) it is because you took the liberty of treating us like sub-human pieces of shiat. You spoke to us in a manner I'm certain you would speak to no other person. You addressed us as a cruel master would a slave, knowing if we wanted to pay the rent for our crappy apartment we had to take it. If you are fine with treating a complete stranger like that, I am fine with you eating spit.

I completely agree that the term is quite fitting. But it's just so depressingly dorky to actually make a Tolkien reference in everyday conversation, especially in the context of blazing. Maybe I'm just an American elitist.

Hmm, well fair enough. Sorry for jumping to conclusions, UK.
