Because a medical procedure involving your doctor and pushing your kid off the balcony is the same thing.

If only there were some way that she could take a pill or wear a patch or any of the other 5 million contraception methods out there were affordable and accessible for those unfit for motherhood.....

On a serious note: the reason psycho moms keep forming babbies only to kill them is that they are serious AWs. It's similar to Munchausen by Proxy : they get pregnant for the attention that pregnant women get, and then they get sympathy and attention that a woman who loses a child gets. They likey, so lather, rinse, repeat.

Neither birth control nor abortion would give them this result.

That sounds good but there's a difference between being capable of being a good parent and having the stamina to stick with it for 18 years. Especially the first couple of years. You're ON 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

A 29-year-old mother who has already lost two children prior to this did not give a second thought to leaving an infant with a fever alone for almost a day? Is there no maternal instinct in this person at all?

I pity any kid of hers that manages to survive childhood. How messed up are they going to be?

That she called the kid Neo should tell you she's the Japanese equivalent of ghetto trash.

That kid would never have been able to get a job in a decent company with a name like that. Seriously that name reeks of "your dad is in a biker gang and your mum works in soapland".

Ugh. Are we having this argument again? It's like the third time this week. Can we just say that you think a fetus is a person, I disagree, we can both shut up about it and agree that this woman needs to be facepunched?

Abortion is not contraception, but it is birth control.

Doesn't wash. Most would be extra attentive to another child (almost to the point of obsession) if they lost one in a terrible accident like falling off a balcony. Not this poor excuse for a mother.

Some people only have them because they're selfish and irresponsible. Some folks I know who have kids, I wouldn't even trust babysitting my spider plants for a weekend. On the other hand, some of the more responsible people I know are smart enough to realize that they shouldn't have babies. (It's possible there's a movie out there based on this idea).

/I'd like to kick this woman in the box.

I'm working in Japan now, and let me tell you: it ain't easy to get birth control here. The pill, for example, was legalized fairly recently, and most doctors still refuse to prescribe it. Folks in my company were told to wean themselves off of it before they came over. Condoms are around, but they're still unpopular-ish (relatively). By far, the most common form of BC is abortion. That being said, there's a lot of pressure for women to start popping out kids by their mid to late 20s.

Not that this excuses this specimen's behavior, though. If I were a guy, she'd be the kind of girl I'd be scared to meet.

"One child's death is a terrible tragedy. Multiple child deaths is murder."

Can't remember the name of the ME who first said this, but it was after the myth that SIDS is hereditary was debunked.

Unless that first death took place in the hospital when she was nowhere near the baby or was 100% supervised with it, she is not off the hook. The balcony fall - could be a terrible accident. Could be she pushed him. Could be she left the balcony in an unsafe condition and left the child deliberately unsupervised. Unfortunately, no one will probably ever know.

And this last one, there is no excuse. None.

Ihaveanevilparrot: Why do these articles always seem to be from places like Japan?

Not saying us westerners don't neglect children, I just mean that specific type of neglect, where the parent(s) were too absorbed in the internet to check on their children or care for them properly.
Like that one couple that was so absorbed in an online game and their personas on there that they caused their child to die from malnutrition because they rarely got off the internet to feed them. I seem to remember the point of the game they were playing was to keep your virtual child alive, which made it even more "wtf" but I could be mixing up one article with another.

Korean couple, I remember that one too

Hmmm, maybe. But seeing how her third died due to her neglect says a lot about how the second one died falling off an apartment balcony.

And "well, that could happen to even the best parent ever" ya know, that's only true for very loose definitions of "the best"

Messed up? Any kid who survives with a mother like her is probably blessed with some sort of survival superpowers. He will probably have to be a demigod or wizard.
