I can't stop looking at this beautiful picture of Judah and his son, Aaron.

Welcome home cousin ('cause I'm a sailor)

Kudos to you for any contributions your unit has made towards even a few girls being educated in Afghanistan...I didn't actually watch the video...sorry my speakers are busted. I can't even fathom how detrimental to a society it is to deny education to the entire female gender, so by logical extension the benefit of healing such a problem is equally unfathomable.

Enjoy your time ashore.

ahab, good job Marine! Enjoy all you do and do all you enjoy! You earned it.

Hello to you, too.

America would simply not work without people like you.

Hi! Thanks for your service!

So how does a "mine roller" work -- all you have to do is "roll" a mine and it becomes ineffective?

Who knew that mines got dizzy....

What a Marines Child may look like..

Damn. All these homecoming threads are so bittersweet for me.

Glad you made it home in one piece, Marine. Enjoy your family.

Hope to follow you.

Coming on a Bicycle: You don't have RPG racks on those things?

Nope. Wasn't a problem while I was there (but the Army route clearance guys always had them).

Christian Bale: So how does a "mine roller" work -- all you have to do is "roll" a mine and it becomes ineffective?

More like it rolls on top of a pressure-activated switch and blows up the mine/IED before it can blow the vehicle up. It's essentially a heavily front-weighted 10-wheeled target for IEDs.

Welcome home, congratulations on son number two, and the next beer's on us. Thank you.
2012-06-30 10:12:53 AM

ahab: Yeah, that was an interesting day. Moment of complete chaos, then we all laughed because we were ok, then we sat there for 4 hours waiting for EOD to come search for secondaries, do post-blast analysis, and help get the mangled mine roller off of our MRAP.

That must have felt like 100 years.

Glad you're safe.

To our nation's leaders: BRING THEM HOME. Let them meet their sons and daughters. Let them be reunited with their husbands and wives, their mothers and fathers, their brothers and sisters. Let's end this godforsaken war.

Also... this site features many exceptional Farkers, but Ahab stands head and shoulders above most. Welcome home, Sir, and congratulations. You're the best of the best.

Thanks for reading and for your kind words, everybody! ahab's pretty awesome, I agree. And it was a crazy experience -- and a rollercoaster to write about -- but definitely one to remember.

And for tl;dr person, this version is 1,000 words shorter than the first draft was, so it could have been worse.
2012-07-01 04:32:24 AM
Congrats, man.
2012-07-01 12:18:36 PM
Many, many thanks for your service, ahab - cheers to you and kicksie!

Thanks for your service Ahab (and all you other Farkers/Liters that served). Darn onion dust or something.

Glad you are safe
