Let's get this out of the way early...

It's okay to put ketchup on Hot Dogs.

Hot Dogs are just the scraps of meat that couldn't be used anywhere else. They are not a delicacy. Putting ketchup on ground up hog lips and anuses infused with bug parts is not a bad thing.

/fark mustard.

You know, I live close enough to New York to make an event of it and just hit each hot dog place in a day. Anyone down for that?

Putting ketchup on a dog is only acceptable if you are younger than 12.

I heard that New York does a pretty good Hot Dog. Not a big fan of Nathan's though...

YEP. I say it proud now. It's what I ate as a kid. I stil like PB&Js and a bowl of Cap'n Crunch occasionally. Tired of being looked down on brutha.
I put mustard and kraut on bratwurst, I put anything in the fridge on hotdogs.

Anyways... Loves me a good hotdog thread.

shiat. All out of popcorn... what to do, what to do?

I'm in agreement. Ketchup is great on hot dogs. I like mustard (real mustard, not radioactive yellow stuff), but it is always best on a good sausage.

Subby hasn't been to Macon, Georgia and had a Nu-Way hotdog. Yes they look a bit unappetizing because they're blood red, but by God they are so damn good.

Love a dirty water dog!! Papaya's was really good, as was Walter's...still, backyard grill still wins. I like mine with ketcup and american cheese (I know, I know) or chili (Carolina-style) and slaw. It's not a pretty sight...

List fails as long as Nathan's exist. It took me two days to get the taste out of my mouth. Very few brands of hotdogs have been banned in my house and Nathan's is on the list. I am not picky for I will eat Koegel's, Ballpark, Oscar Meyer and some generics. I have turned down a free Nathan's hotdog.

Hot dogs, when made correctly, are not made from "lips and anuses" at all. They are made from the meat of bulls, not cows. The tougher meat of bulls is ideal for fine grinding, which is the distinctive characteristic of hot dogs.

Oh, and as usual. the New York version of food is overrated, as are their versions of pizza, bagels, and women. Better versions of all three are to be found in Chicago. And better versions of two are to be found in Los Angeles,

Hotdogs remind me of the kobe-burger problem.

There are more places selling kobe (presumably wagyu) burgers than steaks. Does this mean the bulk of wagyu beef is going into burger patties?

My wife and I had the pleasure of visiting NYC for the first time in March. We were really looking forward to the dogs... Tried Gray's Papaya - it was farking vile. Street dogs were better. Hell, COSTCO dogs are better.

Can someone explain to me what's so special about hot dogs in New York? I've never been there, but it seems like one of those things New Yorkers brag about...just like people from Phillie are all ooooo, our cheese steak rocks, etc etc.

Loves me a good hotdog. Had 'em in NYC, Balto, Philly, Chicago, and tons of ballparks.

But in my opinion, nothing beats Dirty Franks in Columbus, Ohio. It's as if 6 pound 3 ounce baby Jesus made them himself.

I'd probably win more money if I brought sonora hot dogs in new york than doing my gig as an architect.

"The best hot dog" is akin to "the best American-style light lager." Edible, but only marginally so.

I am from New York, live San diego now for 26 years .Back in the '80's
my uncle had a hot dog stand he parked in front of a furniture store in
clairmont mesa. I would hang with him and shoot the shet. One day this
Japanese couple show up with the biggest friggin brat i have ever seen..
Well there off to the back,Uncle Joe is asking the spoiled brat"So you
want mustard on that ya little bastard.".he didn't seem fazed being called
a little bastard

/kid was like 12

//laughed my ass off

/// love ya uncle joe

Been all through California and have yet to find a hot dog that even comes close to the delicacy of one I had in Boston as a kid. The bun was a piece of grilled bread, the hot dog was thick and partially cut into pieces to insure each portion got grilled. I only asked for onions and mustard, a habit I keep to this day... since no real hot dog should require more.
Of course I still remember the name:

It's the vendor piss in the cart that really defines it.

I remember going to Florida and having the hardest time finding "Natural Casing" dogs. I finally found them at some Walmart but they were freezer packed. I quickly moved back to New England. Yes,,, It was that important.

Ketchup is OK but mustard is the best possible condiment to any meat based substance. And there are better hotdog places.

I went to New York excited to have some of these famous hot dogs. They really just weren't that good. Chicago dogs are head and shoulders above. Seriously, I can't imagine a hot dog better then at Hot Doug's. NYC pizza is better though.

Buffalo's Sahlen's hot dogs beats any NYC or Chicago dog. Do not boil or simmer the weiner. Do not cook it on a metal grill....Charcoal or briquettes only please. Mustard, relish, onion. Sometimes kraut. And a soft white bread roll. Not seeded roll, or crusty.

Scandinavia has better hot dogs

In fact, the hot dog cart at the end of Drottningatan near the Parliament building in Stockholm, has the best hot dogs on the planet. The hot dogs are good and about 2 feet long. For 25 kroner (about 4 bucks) you get two of those dogs and a can of Coke....very inexpensive for Stockholm. And the vendor speaks better English than the New Yorker w his overrated Nathans

And, the Bacon Bite hot dogs in Oslo area 7-Elevens are out of this world. Expensive, but they are wrapped with a huge slab of BACON. Awesome
