I gave one episode a shot "hearts and hooves day" it was better than most childrens show... but that is what it was, a childrens show. Why would someone that doesn't have kids watch this shiat? Maybe it would be something I have on in the backround if nothing else is on but I can't imagine an adult watching this shiat if they didn't have kids.

FirstNationalBastard: optional:
Then again, I never quite understood the appeal of merchandise. I never felt the need to have a Breaking Bad-themed calendar or a WoW-themed coffee mug. I'm also a horrendous cheapskate, so that might be why. I also dislike crowds, so I never felt tempted to go to big geek conventions; I'd rather just hang out with my friends and drink absurd amounts of coffee/beer while talking about all kinds of things.

I don't disagree.

I don't get obsessive fandoms. I don't get conventions, cosplay, fanfic, fanart, or 90% of the stuff associated with Bronies or Trekkies or sports fans that go to games wearing no shirt and a cheese hat in sub-20 degree weather.

But, if it makes these people happy, good for them. Just as if someone feels that work work work I HAVE NO TIME FOR FRIVOLITY is the path to happiness, well good for them.

I write fanfic, I totally agree with you (also, I'm smart enough not to mention this fact about me to people I meet IRL; I love all y'all on Fark, but nothing here matters).

The thing that annoys me about a lot of fans is that they get so myopic. Bronies are hardly alone in this. Still, if fandom is what makes them happy, they should go for it; at the same time, they need to understand that not everyone shares the same interests. This seems to be hard for some people to grasp.

lizyrd: No, both money and time are limited.

lizyrd: Do I go for dinner and cocktails with my wife and friends, or do I use that money for pieces of plastic shaped to look like something on TV?

lizyrd: Your accusation that I live this way based on how I want other people to see me is bullshiat...I had a "holy shiat" moment when I saw an example of where I was headed.

It's always charitable when someone puts the refutations of their arguments in their own post, really saves time.

Yes, I contradicted myself when I said I have toys like the trailer I use for business. And that I think spending time with friends and family is more important than TV and plastic doodads. And that either you spend time and money wisely or you don't.

And the fact that I watched a 65 year old man finish his career with nothing...no family, no house, a car 90% owned by the bank, poor health...nothing except his reputation as a spendthrift, that it changed my life because I didn't want to be alone and old and sick and bitter. I'm really refuting my arguments.

I stand by every one of my statements, and i'd like you to point out the contradiction.

Yuri Futanari: MLP is crap. Utter crap. Why would any self respecting adult actually watch this tripe?

I mean, it's not even very well made! When the Cutie Mark Crusaders were asking the ponies how they got their Cutie Marks, and Pinkie Pie was retelling the story of how she saw a rainbow then threw a party for her rock-herding family, in one scene the younger version of Pinkie Pie clearly had her cutie mark (three balloons), but this was BEFORE she actually got it! The very next frame change her cutie mark was gone again.

Shoddy animation only suitable for children or the retarded.

These are getting better every time.

Mopofdeath: I gave one episode a shot "hearts and hooves day"

I tried one cola. It wasn't coke or pepsi or even RC, but it was a cola. That's all it was.

Seriously, Hearts and Hooves day isn't a good example episode on several levels. First off, the Cutie Mark Crusaders are not only for kids, THEY ARE KIDS. The girl who does Sweetie Belle is about 13. Their story lines are kid centric themes.

If you want to understand why MLP appeals to adult men as well as everyone else you should watch some of the following:

Return of Harmony 1and 2 (guest starring John de Lancie of Star Trek fame)
Lesson Zero
Party of One
Applebuck Season
Stare Master
Feeling Pinkie Keen
Luna Eclipsed

Those are some of the better episodes for adult themes, brilliant art, mythological references, and general good ol' fashioned cartoon gags.

Growing up is something teenagers do to be less fun. Once you're an adult, there's no need for it anymore

Not sure what you mean, Peter Pan. Seems to me that as an adult, I need to work to support myself and my family. I need to take care of my house, the yard and the family cars. I need to spend both money and time wisely to create the best chance for happiness for both myself and my family. Watching cartoons meant for 10-year olds and buying the associated toys is incompatible.

The toys are still there when you become an adult, they are just supposed to change. I got the same kick out of the new trailer I bought for my side business as I did when I got an NES at 8. I get the same satisfaction out of a six-pack as I got out of a new CD at 13. There's just something off about someone who's tastes remain with cartoons and toys through their 20s.

Guess what? You can do all of that AND enjoy something that's "childish". In the real world, there is more than "either-or", "us or them", "with us or against us", etc. I'm sorry that you feel the need to overdo maturity so that others won't see you as "immature", but many of us do work, and support families, and have social lives, and watch cartoons.

An amazing concept, isn't it? Hope your mind can handle that.

No, both money and time are limited. Do I go mow a lawn with this free time, thereby earning $40 and keeping the customer happy? Or do I sit on my ass and watch TV (news, sports, or children's cartoon)? Do I work on the house, whether engaging in needed improvements or just cleaning, or do I sit on my ass and watch TV? Do I go for dinner and cocktails with my wife and friends, or do I use that money for pieces of plastic shaped to look like something on TV?

There is a reason my cars are paid off, I have no credit card debt, own and operate a small but profitable business aside from my full-time job, have a fixer-upper that is rapidly becoming a nice house, and have enough m ...

You have no time for anything but working, yet here you are biatching and pissing about ponies and the people who enjoy them. If you're going to troll, at least try not to make such obvious bullshiat mistakes.

Yes. He's now in charge of Marvel Animation.

Said it before and I'll say it again: Christopher Yost (showrunner for A:EMH) should do what Gregg Wiseman did after Disney/Marvel pulled the plug on Spectacular Spider-Man. Go to DC/Warner Brothers and pitch a show to them. Yost writing Justice League as a companion to Wiseman's Young Justice.

FirstNationalBastard: loveblondieo: Not a fangirl, but I hate the animation of the new My Little Pony and Pound Puppies. They just look too weird. Cartoons were at their peak in 80s, why not just re-air them?

[media.tumblr.com image 286x400]

80s cartoons sucked. The animation was mostly horrible, and most of them were 30-minute commercials for toys or cereal.

Now, the early-90s... that's when cartoons were great.

You shut your whore mouth.

I finally sat down and watched an episode last year to see what all the fuss was about. Even though I like cartoons I expected to hate it because I thought it would be just like the old 80s show, only to find out it was nothing even remotely like it. Then I watched another episode, then another and that cinched it. I bought every episode from iTunes in 720p (fortunately among them being the unedited Derpy episode). It's a great show.

A few days ago I also looked up an episode from G1 on Youtube, oh god that was bad.

Lady, go outside, get in your car, pull out of your driveway, and keep driving until you hit the edge of town. Then, keep going until you find the highest point you can find, and park your car. Climb to the very top of that point, and look all around you at the plains and/or water around you, stretching as far as the eye can see. Then, squint your eyes, looking in as far as any particular direction as you please (it doesn't matter which,) and there, sitting like a little dot on the horizon. you will see...
