The Interstate Highway System needs to be dismantled as it is an unwarranted

Robert Moses solved this problem on Long Island by building highway overpasses that were too low for buses to fit through so the poors couldn't be bused in from the city.

I don't know of any US regions (and there but a few British ones) that don't aspirate the 'h' in those words. They aren't "hard" and "soft" sounds, and it has nothing to do with the number of syllables. Hypercorrection!

Betraying my roadgeekery: Interstates don't have to go from state to state, they just can. Interstates 4 (all in Florida), 12 (all in Louisiana), 17 and 19 (all in Arizona), 27 and 37 (all in Texas), and 86 (all in Idaho) don't cross state boundaries either.

By the way, before 1956 US-shielded routes (like US 1 or Route 66) were known as interstates. The 1956 law changed their name to "US federal routes". Why they didn't just bother to call the new routes by a new name, I don't know.

Maybe we should convince the right wing lunatics that using an interstate highway only helps reinforce the idea that states' rights are being taken away by the federal government. They should only use back roads, which will also hamper big government's attempt to regulate the amount of pollution one person has the right to emit in their day to day life.
