A public-works project designed to increase interstate commerce that would in turn increase Federal oversight throughout the nation and expand government power at previously unimaginable levels? All inspired by a Fascist state?

Maybe he was being advised by Obama. Or the people who planned for Obama's eventual installation.

You mean the person who calls himself Obama.

The real Barack Obama has been in a shallow grave for over 40 years. Go ask Alger Hiss.

We will be starting construction on a new national highway system designed to allow people travel from coast to coast quickly and efficiently.

WTF Indeed: Dwight "Iron Cross" Eisenhower was a socialist. All that talk of "The cost' of things just showed Ike hated America and wanted it turned into a commie state.

The Interstate Highway System needs to be dismantled as it is an unwarranted
intrusion onto the rights of each state to manage their own roads. Preferably
this will be accomplished using child labour.

Ike was a RINO.

There is one interstate highway in the USVI. The program is designed to facilitate interstate commerce. How do you think those pineapples get to the ports to be shipped to the continental US?

Do you think interstate highways should only be little strips of pavement right on the border between two states?

Fade up from Black to blurry photo of bald Ike as the background. Foreground video is "ethnic" families driving into the suburbs to loot.
SFX: Ominous music

Narration:
They're coming...for you and your family. And 'Ike' wants to help them do it with YOUR tax dollars.

CUT TO: Photo of Ike superimposed over Berlin. Photoshop Ike shaking hands with Hitler as Stalin looks on smiling

Ike's so-called "Socialist Superhighway" is just like the ones HITLER built.

CUT TO: Ike photoshopped in a dress dancing with a fancy lad

Yes, those roads he drove on while he was hiding in England on D-Day with his "aide" -- a man kept around to take care of Ike's "every need."

CUT TO: Crying Eagle watching the Constitution burn

Can we afford Ike's Socialist Agenda stealing your family's money to make it easier for the poors to come to YOUR town? Clearly, the answer is "NEIN!"

Robert Moses solved this problem on Long Island by building highway overpasses that were too low for buses to fit through so the poors couldn't be bused in from the city.

Purely dependent on regional dialect. Just like "An hypothesis" or "A hypothesis" H words over 3 syllables are treated differently due to certain regions pronunciation of the hard H versus soft H sound.

I don't know of any US regions (and there but a few British ones) that don't aspirate the 'h' in those words. They aren't "hard" and "soft" sounds, and it has nothing to do with the number of syllables. Hypercorrection!

Fun fact: Alaska has 4 (unsigned) interstates.

2012-06-29 12:32:55 PM
Remember - the one time cost of the interstate highway system for a public good is exactly the same as an endless entitlement to pay for people who refuse to keep their weight under control.

If you say otherwise, you are a racist.

And Westchester. All the limited-access highways (the Hutch, the Taconic, the Sprain, etc.) have that issue.

Interstate highways were also good for dividing poor neighborhoods from rich ones in major cities. The new "wrong side of the tracks."

Walker: Hawaii has 3 interstate highways. What other states do they go to?

Betraying my roadgeekery: Interstates don't have to go from state to state, they just can. Interstates 4 (all in Florida), 12 (all in Louisiana), 17 and 19 (all in Arizona), 27 and 37 (all in Texas), and 86 (all in Idaho) don't cross state boundaries either.

By the way, before 1956 US-shielded routes (like US 1 or Route 66) were known as interstates. The 1956 law changed their name to "US federal routes". Why they didn't just bother to call the new routes by a new name, I don't know.

They just bootstrap it from town to town powered by their own hypocritical bullshiat...

Twenty ATL-NY trips in the last 6 years and I've flown once.
Also ATL-STL
And lots of road trips when I was a kid.

Well, the Birchers really did accuse Eisenhower of being a communist. Then they proceeded on a 40 year quest take over the Republican party.

Can we be done with 'an historic' please? This is not England. We do not drop our Hs.

How about 'an hysterectomy'?
'an hysterical reaction'?
'an hope'?
'an horticultural soiree'?
'an homeless guy'?

Note. When we *do* drop our Hs (an hour ago), we use 'an'.

2012-06-29 12:40:51 PM
Maybe we should convince the right wing lunatics that using an interstate highway only helps reinforce the idea that states' rights are being taken away by the federal government. They should only use back roads, which will also hamper big government's attempt to regulate the amount of pollution one person has the right to emit in their day to day life.

/Just want the highways clear for the drive home this weekend
