I'm OK with the death penalty in this case.

Manuel De Jesus Rosales, 45, whom they contend slit his 3-month-old grandson's throat in front of his 20-year-old daughter, Karminda Rosales Salazar, the baby's mother, as she lie in the driveway of their home, suffering stab wounds to her neck. As he cut his grandson, Rosales told Salazar, "Here's your bastard," investigators allege. Salazar's older child, a toddler fathered by Rosales, was not injured during the attack.

TsarTom: Salazar's older child, a toddler fathered by Rosales

I thought that was covered by the "in front of baby's brother" portion of the headline.

Pay close attention to who the parents of the baby's brother are.

It sounds as if he was jealous. He didn't hurt the child that he fathered but killed the 'bastard'. Yeah, just put him down.

Problem solved.

So, let me see if I have this straight...

Man kills grandson and tries to kill daughter because his daughter cheated on him and had a child with another man.

Defense wants to kick the death penalty because he's afraid to travel to Honduras to collect background information.

I think he should go, I want to hear the rest of this story. Perhaps he is his own grandpa on top of being the father-grandfather.

The lawyer for a Lehigh Acres man accused of slitting the throat of his infant grandson and attempting to kill his daughter in 2010 said in court Monday that he plans to file a motion to bar the use of the death penalty because it's too dangerous to travel to the man's native Honduras to gather information about his client's past.

"I mean, your honor, look at some of the sick farks that come from Honduras, such as my client...I ain't going there"

Him and his douchebag lawyer should both get the death penalty

What a wonderful family. The mother/daughter, isn't exactly a prize but the father is reprehensible all by himself.

What would traveling to Honduras do to benefit the defense? What, if any new discoveries would be made down there that would exonerate this man from his heinous crimes?

I think the idea is that the death penalty is off the table if it can be demonstrated he had a shiatty childhood or whatever. Because it's infeasible to go to Honduras, the public defender is arguing, then it would be unfair to have it in this case. He could still get life in prison. Seems unlikely to work.

It doesn't even sound like the defense is arguing that he DIDN'T do it, just that they don't feel like they can find the sort of evidence that he had such a farked up childhood that he doesn't deserve to get executed for what he did. I don't care how farked up it was, nothing excuses what he did. He even lives in Florida. Take him out to the Everglades, kneel him down at the edge of a swamp, shoot him behind the ear with a .22, and give the gators a meal. Problem solved.

I'd guess that being in a sexual relationship with one's own father would fark a person up in more ways than can be counted. So, I'd probably be less Judgey Mcjudgey-Pantsabout the mother/daughter. Girl's gotta have issues.

Who in the world would think anything that happened in this guy's childhood could excuse what he did?

It may make the story even more sad, but it remains that the only thing to do with a mad dog is to put it down.

How often does a public defender/defense atty leave the country to gather evidence of their client's upbringing? More to the point, in equally horrific crimes, how many times has the "boo, my childhood was bad ergo I have to get rapey and stabby to make myself feel better" defense work vs say...the good run of the mill standby: temporary insanity?

If the older child is already a toddler and the daughter is only 20, we're talking teen pregnancy here. With her father's baby. I can't judge her for that, but he is a loathsome bastard.
