Clearly you've never heard him sing the song 'Stop Asking the Question' in his standup. He's asked about that series so often it's turned into half of his standup routine.

/does a ton of voice acting now

Wtf is this shiat? Was there anyone is the world who didn't think this was EVH?

What's next, chicken of the sea isn't really chicken? James Earl Jones was only the voice of Darth Vader, he wasn't the guy in the suit? Some song no one thinks was done by the Beatles, really wasn't done by the Beatles?

Listen kids-when you take crap and throw it up on the internet, it's still crap.

I wonder if they're about to re-release BACK TO THE FUTURE again?

On DVD? They did for its 20th anniversary, I believe. I remember people talking about the scenes with Eric Stoltz as Marty being on the special features.

dittybopper: Cloudchaser Sakonige the Red Wolf: Something just occurred to me. All these years, people wondered if it was from an actual song. Eddie says that he was just playing a bunch of noise. That suggests that a lot of people can't tell the difference between music and someone who needs a Rodco Rock Box

Given the similarity between that bit of guitar wankery and bits of "Eruption", then you can see where people might get a tad confused.

you both have valid points and i love that. my POS brother is a pro musician. you'd be amazed how many players can't read or write music, or even know why typical air play is time limited. Eddie VH deserves an award from the musical instruments industry. that little shredder inspired more kids to buy guitars in his day than i can imagine.

As long as Sammy Hagar is the lead singer, everything will be fine.

H31N0US: I see it is still cool to hate EVH, especially if you claim to be a guitar player.

Face it, toolbags: his sound, style and technique changed the instrument forever. If he had been black, and choked to death on his own vomit in 1982, we'd be genuflecting after uttering his name.

Well, you can argue that EVH invented the weedly-deedly style, but it hasn't aged well, and it didn't foster many current players. So I'm not sure how he "changed the instrument forever" since almost no one plays in his style these days. His contemporaries like Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, and Ted Nugent have had a more lasting impact than EVH did in practical terms.

80's rock music did not age well for the most part. If I want fun 80's party rock, I'll go with ZZ Top or AC/DC.

I would change that to 80's hair bands didn't age well. Eagles, U2, Talking Heads, Journey, the Police, Bruce, Pat Benatar their stuff sounds as good today as it did back then.

Good musicianship doesn't age. Fun doesn't age. Blues, for example, doesn't age. EVH has influenced MILLIONS of guitarists and TONS of bands are playing fast leads with tapping. Denying his influence is...... Is just astonishing.

And thank god. The 90s were dismal. The new Van Halen cd is amazing.

Tons of crappy Van Halen tribute bands, maybe.

What modern bands are still playing in the EVH style? I'm a geezer so maybe I missed the weedly-deedly groundswell among the young 'uns.

That's because most people think the eighties = Flock of seagulls, Thompson twins ect. The fact of the matter is is that the 1st half of the 80's had Zeppelin, Queen, Yes, Deep Purple, Aerosmith, Boston, McCartney, Lennon, Harrison, ELO, BeeGees, VH, Abba, and a plethora of bands not named Poison. The period between 1970 and 1985 was the best period in non classical music in the history of the world.

No one should argue that Michael Jordan invented the dunk, One can argue Dr. J invented the dunk.

EVH made that style known to the world (if you will) the same way Michael Jackson made known moonwalking with the Motown special. I would say most people had never heard EVH style before eruption highlighted it the same way most people had never seen anyone moonwalk before Jackson did it on Motown's 25th tv special.

I feel EVH and the group never seem to mature his style and music. There never seem to be any adventurous albums from VH or EVH doing his own guitar album.
