highendmighty: Santa's Knee: Face it - hot chicks are prey animals.

The brighter the plumage, the more predators will be attracted to them.
One or more of those predators may give in to instinct.

Perhaps they might wish to not augment their plumage with glowsticks.
Just sayin'.

When you're talking instinct, I would argue that it's more in the pheromones.
But I won't.

/I like this thread so much, I am groping it right now

There'd be a whole lot more fattie-rape if that were true.

No, but is it possible in your opinion that she may be negligently avoiding reducing her risk?

Nope, because one cannot be negligent with regard to an intentional tort or crime.

The words have meanings in a non-lawyerly sense too- or rather, the lawyerly sense reflects reality. If someone is going to commit an intentional act, then precautions may not be enough. Thus, failing to perform those precautions cannot be negligent, because the failure doesn't prevent the harm.

Consider if I told you to eat a grilled cheese sandwich to reduce your risk of getting into a fight. Say you didn't eat the sandwich, and you get punched that evening. Was there a causal relationship between eating the sandwich and getting punched? No. Therefore, you're not negligent for failing to eat the sandwich. You are not required to obey every warning, particularly the ones that are irrelevant, useless, and affect your lifestyle.

I'm not talking about isolated incidents. You can find improper investigations on any type of crime.

And of the women don't follow that warning, it's never spoken of again?

A few people will, of course, like I said before, how is this different than any other crime. You seem to be under the impression that that this is done more often with women who are victims of sexual assault but it's not. Point out any con and you will have people who blame the victims for being stupid. If you get hit by a drunk driver some people will say, "You shouldn't have been on the roads at 3am on a Friday".

Wait until the next high-profile rape thread.

Ok. And you do understand that there is a difference between acquittal, and the case falls apart because there's video taped evidence of the victim lying don't you?

Would you stop at a carwash staffed by burka wearing chicks? Or maybe one staffed with some Bloods? Bikinis bring in the dirty cars every time.

You know this already and are hell bent on being an idiot who doesn't want to acknowledge that we dress for our intended audience. I think many of us absolutely agree with that. It's not someones fault if they get targeted. They aren't negligent, just unlucky.
However, it is a huge DISSERVICE to possible future victims to not inform them of ways they can reduce that risk.

Because unlike every other crime in the world, suggesting crime prevention for sexual assault is unacceptable victim bashing. And also unlike every other crime in the world, all sexual abusers need is a good talking to and be told not to abuse anymore, and they will stop.

ha-ha-guy: zarberg: I have no idea if it's true or not, but I've heard that groping got so bad on the subway system in Tokyo that they started putting women's only cars at the ends of the train. From how the story goes, it backfired - guys started assuming that any women not in those cars (which were routinely so full you couldn't get on them) wanted to be groped.

The women only cars are true. Although my understanding is they're only there during high density times. Really that's the worst time for the groping. Since the guys can just play it off like they bumped against you or something. It's rare to see a guy cross a half empty car, sit down beside you, and feel you up.

/of course it is rare to see a half empty car on that system most of the time

CSB:
I'm on the Tokyo subway with a Japanese-American coworker. Guy gropes her. She turns around and slams the heel of her hand right into his nose. He can't really fall down because the car is too packed, but he recoils as much as possible and starts screaming as blood comes out of his nose. She stands there and tells him near perfect Japanese:

"I'm American, you may remember us from the 1940s".

Utter silence on the car after that. Despite the fact it was packed, she somehow got a halo of space around her for the rest of the trip.

Holy God, I wish I could have seen that. When I was in Korea, some of the more obnoxious of my group liked to chat up random locals on public transportation, because they were usualy too shy and didnt speak enough english to tell the douchebag to go away.

One day a guy sits next to this korean chick on the bus, and starts spouting off about how he'd like to take her home and rock her world. She looks over at him, and in perfect farking English says "Do I know you, or are you just a lonely creep?" He was too stunned to do anything but go find another seat and sit in silence while the rest of us laughed at him. I stopped hanging out with those guys as I didnt want to find out the pissed of a karate master one day.
