LarryDan43: What no golden retriever around to shoot? They are slacking.

Actually there was a Pomeranian, but you know, those little farkers are agile and cops aren't the best shots in the world. Last I saw they were chasing it down the street in their Urban Assault Vehicle, launching tear gas canisters at it.

dlp211: Again, you have the right to not run a secure network and should reasonably expect not to be raided by SWAT.

You also have the right to leave your front door wide open while you're at work, but that doesn't it's a smart thing to do.

If you leave your stuff wide open, you should expect criminals to come in. If criminals come in, you should expect the police to follow.

I love the comment someone posted on the website about "teaching people who make threats a lesson".

Because blowing up their neighbour's house will totally learn 'em!

Wifi security is simple enough to set up. If you're too lazy to turn it on, you deserve to be assaulted by a SWAT team.

RedVentrue: More like stealing your neighbors cable,

You're missing the point. You can hardly "steal" his cable if your neighbor sets up a TV that's always on in his big bay window that looks out onto the street, and faces the screen outward.

RedVentrue: and committing crimes with it.

I'm not sure how a viewer would commit crimes over cable, but I'm willing to learn.

Dokushin: You geniuses got any plans for how to handle violent conflict in the world you breathlessly envision without police? Those guys get shot at as part of their jobs. You ever been shot at? You don't think that might make you a little cautious?

Wear a uniform and knock on a druglord's door sometime.

This argument would make perfect sense if they busted in a druglord's house, instead of going after some kid who made a threatening Internet post.

No doubt cops have dangerous jobs and should take precautions---but the fact that cops get shot at doesn't make a valid excuse for something this absurd.

And while we're on the topic, when did cops ditch those nice blue uniforms and decide to dress up like a sci-fi army all the time? Twitter, smart phones and auto-tune make me feel old, but if there's one aspect of the future that thoroughly confuses me, it's the way cops now dress, equip and act like they're about to fight an invasion of giant alien bugs. At the end of the year, when various media outlets put up slideshows of the most important photos of 2011, the big central theme seemed to be riot gear.

My vote is for the public execution of all officers who were involved in the error. There should be zero tolerance for this kind of police action.

baka-san: And if the homeowner had a gun, and thought, as most of us would, they were under attack(which they were) and shots were traded, wounding or killing one or more people?

How about a little more "policing" and less "COD" guys.

It says serve and protect, not search and destroy on the cars...

When did we become so damn afraid, needing to swing the big dick as a Weeners.

At least their SWAT helmets still have a peace sign:
www.peacelink.it

On a more serious note, wasn't there recently an article describing how Indiana residents can legally shoot and kill cops who break into their houses without cause? This seems like the perfect situation for that.

So SWAT raided the wrong house, terrorizing innocent people and causing property damage, but then they went to the real perp's home they treated them with dignity and respect.

That's some great police work there, guys.
