InmanRoshi: valar_morghulis: He'll be dead soon if he keeps up.

What, this living embodiment of health?

[4.bp.blogspot.com image 242x640]

What that picture of his gut hanging out hides is his wallet. He's a billionaire. That can buy you a lot more health then most people get. Cutting edge experimental dream treatments, the very best doctors in the world, and all the hookers you need to relax you while you recover.

It's a shame, because I have a lot of contempt for people who cynically manipulate an audience for personal gain about real world political issues of consequence. A long time ago I thought he might have been being sincere, and I actually listened to his show unironically, read his first two books... and was entertained even if I disagreed much of the time. But at some point (during the Bush years I think) he went through a shift that made it clear to me that the whole thing was - or at least had become - little more than a cash cow he was now milking.

He went from someone who wanted to tell what he thought was the truth, to carrying water for the republican party because it served his selfish needs. Continuing to feed a narrative to his audience that he believed it wanted to hear, and distorting the truth in order to just continue making obscene amounts of wealth - consequences to the country be damned.

But hey, maybe I just grew up and noticed what he'd always been doing. I don't think so... I think he was sincere once, but that was long ago.

If one of MY guys showed up like that, and that off balance, I'd think that they'd had a bump or two in the bathroom before work.

Just saying.

hubiestubert: You sort of have to feel sad, because this morning a man woke, had his breakfast, and was ready to crow about a decision, and then it crumbled around him. Just like Sandra Fluke, standing before Congress, brave and strong, she represented an ideal that he could never attain, never dream of holding. Such dashed hopes, they bitter a man. They bitter his world. This morning, Rush awoke, and thought to himself, "today will be a sweet, sweet, sweet victory, and I will claim happiness from the sorrow of those who I can't ever please nor share in joy. Today, I will stick it to those bastards who laugh at my gut, laugh at my bile, who I only wanted to hold with tenderness, and now they will feel my wrath..."

And it wasn't to be. Like all those women in college, who spurned him, the Supreme Court has done the same, denied him his rage, the only sup that he has left, besides sweet, sweet sweet Oxy, and the ravages of that are evident, and you have to feel sorry for a man who has been thwarted like this. It's reliving those dark moments in the black, rocking with a desire that he could not even name, let alone act upon. Each strong face that raised up, was a face he could spit on, spit on first before they could turn in disgust. Rejection on HIS terms. Power taken from the droves who he would have nurtured had they only not looked upon him with disgust. Disgust for what he wrapped himself in to protect him from rejection, from hurt, from the pain of never trying, from the pain of knowing that he had nothing to offer, that in his heart of hearts, he knew he was unworthy, but the desire, the want, the need was there. Now covered. In shame, in drugs, in trips to Kai-seng destinations, where those strong womens' faces will never trouble him, save from behind the bar, save from knock at the door to gather his towels, and collect the huddled mass that was already paid for and could return to the favela. He rose today, looking to assuage that hurt, and now thwarted, he has only rage ...

So here's my question on the whole "it's a tax" thing. My aunt is convinced that despite having insurance she's going to have to pay a $2200 tax while making less than $30k. Where is she even getting those numbers from? Is there some right wing Fox News/Rush Limbaugh talking point about dollar figures that I'm missing by being halfway around the world right now?

The right will be spreading as much disinformation on "ObamalamadingdongCare" as they possibly can.

You will be guaranteed to hear much about how terrible the act is but little aside from rhetorical ramblings on what about it is so bad.

Being correct about it being terrible is not the goal here. The goal is to repeat that it is terrible over and over and over. Call it a tax, tell people it will kill their grandmothers, etc

What a corny ass pointless law. Stolen Valor. What a stupid name for a law. What a stupid concept, making it illegal to tell lies. And valor, god if the right wing could drop that stupid word I would trade them a hundred obamacares. Ever since that ridiculous movie came out, they can't say one sentence without trying to shoehorn the word valor into it. I hate that they left open the possibility of rewriting the law to be constitutional, so some idiot like Rand Paul can introduce a dumbass law like the Aborted Baby Persons of Valor and Heroes of Valor Protection Act. The federal government needs to police people dressing up in halloween costumes because small government, states rights, and the jesus. And then we can throw the tea party in jail for impersonating revolutionary war veterans.

It is 1% of taxable income in 2014, 2% in 2015 and 2.5% in 2016. This is for the 2% of the population that are fully able to purchase insurance and just don't.

Well yeah, but besides places where the sun don't shine. That sort of figure has to have a source somewhere. Yeah, and the other right wing talking point is that companies will pay the penalty instead of insure people, even though the same companies are insuring people right now when they don't have to. My aunt informed me that I'd somehow lose my Macy's insurance (where I haven't worked for 4 years and thus don't have anymore) because they'll just pay the penalty instead of insuring people. It makes zero sense why a company that had good healthcare benefits as one of the only selling points for getting and keeping decent people would suddenly cut those benefits and expect people to stay, but nope, somehow automagically the healthcare law being constitutional means that companies are actually going to be dropping coverage in droves.

I'm no fan of the SCOTUS generally, but it was absolutely 100% correct, IMHO, to toss out the Stolen Valor Act on constitutional grounds. Rush, as always, is not just wrong but stupendously and hypocritically wrong.
