unyon: Canada: Universal health care, higher taxes, higher gas prices, stricter environmental regulation, legal same-sex marriage, a puny underfunded military, severe gun control, and no restrictions on abortion whatsoever.

Come on up, US Conservatives. Don't forget to buy some cheap duty-free Depends on your way, you're gonna need them.

Canada sounds awesome.

Pants full of macaroni!!: Rev.K: cato113: We don't have universal healthcare in Canada. We have The Canada Healthcare Act and then the rest is left up to the provinces.

There are 5 central pillars to the Canada Healthcare Act that provinces must abide by.

The 5 pillars ensure coverage for all Canadians in all areas of Canada, period.

That's universal to me.

Know what else has 5 pillars?

The Supreme Court building?

Never mind, they have 8.

In a heartbeat. Coors and Miller are disgusting. Labatt, slightly less so.

Thirded. In college, my tradition for the MLB All-Star Game was to get a big bag of Doritos 3Ds (jalapeno flavor) and a sixer of Labatt.

However, for the purposes of my joke, a redneck would only surrender a Coors if moonshine was available.

// moonshine or his sister

I drink Labatt because I greatly enjoyed the Labatt Bear commercials. Similarly, I drink Dos Equis because I like their "Most Interesting Man in the World" campaign.

/no, seriously

Real Canadians drink Sleeman's and Alexander Keith's. For those of us who want to lowtrack it, we down Club and OV.

Keith's and Sleeman's is low tracking it.

Keith's is piss masquerading as IPA. Sleeman's is sweetened piss masquerading as beer. Steamwhistle, Hop-Head, anything from Granvel Island Brewery and anything from Yukon Brewery. Hell, even Big Rock is better than Sleeman's, and at least Big Rock's IPA has some hops in it. You easterners and your strange ideas about what constitutes beer.

Actually Steam Whistle blows the doors off Sleeman's and Keith's. In Calgary I would stick to Big Rock Brewery products, but in Ontario it's hard to get fresh product. Last time I ordered Grasshopper at The Beer Store the case was dusty.

Oh, and let's not leave out Maudite and Fin de Monde.

You picked probably the most well known ones. Blanche de chambly is fantastic as is trois pistoles. Dieu de ciele is probably my favorite brewery in quebexico.

Ontario has a lot new micro brews. Mill st , beau's, kitchesspi and muskoaka are all fantastic. The wine is good as well, lots of nice whites from Ontario.

And in China you don't have to worry about the Supreme Court deciding whether laws are constitutional or not since they have no judicial review. Not only that, but the supreme court justice who tried to operationalize the constitution got himself thrown in jail on "bribery" charges (surprise, surprise) not long after the decision got rescinded, which serves as a pretty good warning not to try that again.

Thanks to Harper canning the religious part of the census, we'll never know what the true numbers are but they are probably high

From wikipedia

Link

The exact number of atheists in Canada is disputed. (See the section "Statistical problems" above) The Canadian Ipsos Reid poll released September 12, 2011 entitled "Canadians Split On Whether Religion Does More Harm in the World than Good," sampled 1,129 Canadian adults and came up 30% who do not believe in a god. Interestingly, the same poll found that 33% of respondents who identified themselves as Catholics and 28% Protestants said they didn't believe in a god.

An older poll shows 19-30% of the population holding an atheistic or agnostic viewpoint.[38] The 2001 Canadian Census states that 16.2% of the population holds no religious affiliation, though exact statistics on atheism are not recorded.[39] In urban centers this figure can be substantially higher; the 2001 census indicated that 42.2% of residents in Vancouver hold "no religious affiliation."[40] A recent survey in 2008 found that 23% of Canadians said they did not believe in a god.[41] The numbers do seem to suggest that the numbers of people in Canada who believe in a deity are dropping at a significant rate.

this is the most recent from april

Link

A nationwide survey conducted ahead of the Easter weekend has found that a majority of Canadians do not consider religion important to them, although two-thirds of the population say they believe in God.

Just 42 per cent of those polled agreed with the statement "religion is an important part of my life," with women (46 per cent) more likely to value religious activity than men (37 per cent) by a clear margin.
