Like Dusty, I'm old enough to remember when Chuck really was capable of beating up most people. He keeps himself in shape, but he's not young anymore. Or even middle-aged. But the real problem with the ridiculous Chuck memes is that he never had the personality of a bruiser. Nearly every action hero who was his contemporary in the '70s was actually more personally intimidating. (Hell, I still believe that Charles Bronson can just look at someone and they'll just die of fear.) It's baffling to see kids dragging out this old codger, who to most people my age was more like a teddy bear who just happened to know karate, and act like he's this incredible badass. He never was, even when he really could have been.

I remember seeing Chuck getting ready to fight Bruce Lee and flexing his muscles. I was just a kid at the time, but I remember laughing at how it was just basically a hairy ball of a man flexing, and you couldn't see any muscles under the fuzz. Then when the memes came around I was totally with them because I perceived them to be actually poking fun at him in the guise of internet sardonicism. I mean, at the time, Walker Texas Ranger was what he was known for. Who actually took him seriously? It would be if a bunch of memes came out talking about how Kim Kardashian was classy and intelligent. Somehow everyone now thinks people actually like the guy. Not sure how that happened. I guess it's true when they say that if you repeat something often enough, people start to believe it.
