The FDA is arguably the most conservative drug-approval agencies in the world. No one is perfect, and sometimes it turns out drugs they approved carry risks they weren't aware of, but let's not pretend it's reckless.

To be fair, cancer is proven to help in losing weight, and if they prescribe chemo, you're not gonna have a hard time shedding those pounds.

Laboratory rats, notorious cancer-sponges that they are, apparently got cancer in initial tests. Apparently this company submitted testing that wasn't done solely on cancer-sacks and found much less risk of cancer associated with the drug.

I'm not exactly rarin' to give this a try, but it doesn't sound like it's inherently dangerous.

That just means you'll lose more weight, subbs......

So what, just about every medication is approved with "little risk" that it might kill you if you're part of the few percent that experience side effects.

of the 3 up for FDA testing, Belviq was the least effective and least dangerous. The other due for FDA ruling are made of arsenic and hemlock

Finally the FDA becomes the representative for dieting that Americans want. They know slow, steady, intelligent, life changing efforts to lose weight are for europeans and sissy types and some ladies with odd body chemistry. What america wants, nay needs, is a way to lose weight as convenient and as simple as it is to pack on weight. Locate these right next to the twinkies on store end caps and a thin america will be bursting from it's jeggins in no time!!!

So this drug causes weight loss.
And this drug causes Cancer, which in itself causes weightloss...

Then this is some seriously awesome drug. It attacks the problem from at least two vectors! Up the price!

Honestly, the known risks of being obese are far more dangerous than the slight increased cancer risk that this drug carries.

Wow, so a pill given to obese people will allow them to lose about 5% of their body weight. So someone 300lbs might lose about 15lbs after, what several 100 pills over months?

With bonus side effects of cancer, depression, migraine and memory lapses.

I'm sorry, but a 300lbs person could lose 15lbs faster just dropping sugar drinks from their diet.

Or simply walking to the bathroom instead of using the heavy lift equipment they drive their bodies around in nowadays.

Too difficult. Much easier to gobble the cancer pills.

I hope this is nothing like Rimonabant... That drug seemed to hold so much promise - until people started committing suicide and getting seriously depressed.

It never fails. If the FDA is slow to approve something, it's "Why won't they leave it alone?" If the FDA fast tracks something and it ends up killing people, it's "Why aren't they doing their job?"

Or even to use Alli, which secretly just retrains you by making you all olestra-y every time you eat too much fat.

If the cost of bribing the FDA gets any cheaper I'm going to push for legalizing crack.

(If only because it would bankrupt the crack dealers)

Of course we want a way to lose weight that is as convenient and simple as it is to pack it on, only a true weirdo wouldn't want that, weirdo or sadist. There is no moral high ground in doing things the hard way if there is an easy option. Apparently it is okay to have cars, plumbed in water, processed food, electricity and all the labour saving devices it powers, etc, only fat people are not allowed to want an easy out.

C'mon American ingenuity, get to it, you know that you can do it. If you can put a man on the moon surely you can find a way of destroying fat cells.

Mind you, I hear amphetamines work, they just wont let you have them....
