I love "Wahh, I'm white and I'm oppressed" threads.

These Marines got their medals because the proved that even though the country enslaved them, considered them property, considered them 3/5ths of a human being, hated them, feared them, disrespected them, treated them like shiat, made them second-class citizens, and generally didn't want them in the country, they still fought, killed, and died for their country.

So fark you haters. Go back to your Stormfront message boards and talk about how the black guy at the store whistled at your wife and how badly you want to teach him a lesson.

I have serious doubts any of these things happened to any of the individuals in question.

Do you want to know how shiatty things were for black people in the 1930s/40s? Jesse Owens was treated better in Nazi Germany than he was in the United States of America. Think about that for a second. A black man was allowed to stay at the same hotels as whites in Germany. He wasn't allowed the same treatment back here.

So fark you. Let us honor these men for their bravery in the face of how much America HATED them and feared them.

But I get it, you don't like black people.

Just say it. You'll feel a lot better.

I was thinking the same thing. Looks like he'd rather be somewhere else.

Handing out honors to black men angers a sizable part of his party's constituency - it doen't help him politically to be there.

From what I remember in History-101 President Woodrow Wilson re-segregated/more strictly segregated the military just before WWI.
To be entirely frank, Wilson was a bit of an asshole who was always secretly pissed off that the South lost the Civil War because it meant he could never be president of the CSA.

Because they fought just like the white Marines did only they did it while black. It's like Obama's Nobel Peace Prize. First black anythings all get medals. I'm sure it's written down somewhere. In other news George Lucas just figured out the storyline for his next self financed flop.

Some of the services weren't always segregated...

Somewhere around 1928-1930 (USCG):

Somewhere around 1941 or 1942 (USCG/USN):

They even treated their black cats as equals (1928 USCGC Raritan):
